Breathless, and intoxicated by the power that ran through her, a young Icarthian woman leaned back against a thick-trunked tree. She breathed heavily, trying to pull the sweet, leafy forest air into her lungs. She opened her eyes and stared into the canopy of leaves above her, they moved only slightly in whatever wind flowed above them. The woman dug her bare foot into the ground as she listened as far through the wide expanse of trees as she could.
The woman smiled impishly, “I hoped.” She shot the arrow she had finally managed grasp at him. The boy jumped out of the way just in time, but the arrow distracted him enough that she had a chance to take off running.
“Natura!” he yelled, annoyed that she had gotten away again.
Once she had composed herself again Natura pushed Nolen’s large body up so he was sitting against the earth wall. He sat slumped to the side, a discontented expression clinging to his face.
Even with the extra weight off, Nolen was still extraordinarily heavy. It didn’t help to have two rambunctious wolves just barely out of pup-hood underfoot, either. Natura just barely managed to get halfway home, where Nolen was finally able to walk mostly on his own. When the two reentered their village Nolen was completely recovered from the arrow. It wasn’t much longer before they reached the front gate of their cottage.
Natura looked from herself to Nolen. Neither of them looked presentable; something that would really upset Mother.
Mother then grabbed a different jar of salve; it appeared to be filled with mud, and Natura feared a much less appealing effect than what Nolen had. Mother began spreading it over the cut on Natura’s face and several other scrapes that decorated her and Nolen’s bodies. Natura grimaced as the area surrounding the scrapes began to burn.
