Photography test at Home- First Ever

I took some test photos with my camera while at home. Mainly focused on a small red envelope, a heart-key necklace, and a lone Barbie shoe. Some extra's as well. I'd love feedback =] The only thing I did to these photos was either crop or make B&W

Also, photos 3-7 Aren't showing in full (At least not in the preview... I linked them if you want to see them complete)

2,8, and 12 are my favorite! I very much enjoy the interesting angles and the contrast of the red envelop and the Barbie's shoe.

In fact, I think it's AWESOME that you even thought to use a Barbie's shoe as a focus in a photograph. Even in black and white there's enough difference in texture, color, and lighting that the picture doesn't lose the contrast.

I don't much care for the four pieces with dolls as subjects. The bears have too much texture and not enough color and light contrast. I think something about the cat's angle bothers me. Finally, the blond doll, I think that one just creeps me out, it also is too much of the same colors for me. Maybe if you play with it's contrast it will be more pleasing to the eye.

I don't know much about photography, but I thought I'd take a look anyway.

I prefer the key/shoe/envelope pictures in black and white – some of those looked very striking. In the coloured ones, the Barbie shoe is left in the shadow of the key, probably because it's so vague-coloured. The key looks very beautiful in the coloured ones, though, and generally the colours look very pleasant and warm.

Numbers 4 to 6 are my least favourite, mainly because I didn't realise they were bears until I read Red's review, and I also thought the cat thing looked quite creepy. The heart came out looking like it did, because the camera focused on the cat's face, but since I'm no photography person, I don't know how to focus on two things at the same time.

I have two favourite pictures. One of them is the black and white key-and-its-shadow one – very beautiful. (The coloured equivalent is much more basic and I didn't like it that much at all.) My other favourite is the doll face one. I mean... Wow. It's frankly awesome in all its creepiness. I'm probably going to have nightmares about it, because I have a slight dislike toward dolls – but the picture is amazing.

It would be nice to know why you chose those objects to feature in the photos. Were they just pretty little things that happened to catch your eye, or is there a story behind them?

Thanks for the reviews =]. I agree, RedSmiles, I have to play around with the contrast on the bear photo's. And yeah, the dolls are creepy haha. I have a shelf of them in my bedroom and everyone gets creeped out when they come over, but I like them... lol.

Demeter- There's honestly no real 'story' behind why I chose them. First, I was cleaning my room and I found a random Barbie's shoe underneath my bed, which is odd since we got rid of our Barbie's a while ago. Then, for some reason at the same time a noticed that the lighting on a shelf in my room was kind of cool... Somehow I linked it together and decided to take photographs of just the shoe. Then, lo and behold, I spotted this miniature envelope also on the floor, something that came with a journal I got a while ago. "A shoe and an envelope," I thought to myself. "They seem to work, somehow..." So I put them together and photographed them both. It started to take a sort of Cinderella theme. The shoe being, of course, her lost shoe. The envelope some love letter from the Prince. Then, I took my key necklace and figured hey-what the heck. There's a key to someone's heart there, too. It seemed to fit. So I began to photograph them all together. You can probably think of the whole thing as having a Fairy Tale Love theme. But like I said, no real initial story. It just all seemed to work out =].

Those are so cool! You make me want to take pictures of barbie clothes man!
