I'm really not sure whether or not this makes sense, so bear with me.

Did you know that the art of map making is older than the art of writing?
*

Isn’t it sort of the same thing?
*
All those years ago, when the map makers first dipped their quills in inks of various species, they would have been exited at the prospect of new lands that could unfold under their gaze. They may not have been dipping quills, exactly, and maybe not in ink, but as they travelled the coastlines and wildernesses, the lands they held at quill-tip would become defined and well-known. Maybe they already knew those lands. But when they assessed the lands themselves, the coastlines, wildernesses and seas made more sense.
*
So it is the same.
*
In writing we explore. We may already know what we will find, yet we may not. But as we write, every time a new land grows to be a place or coastline or viewpoint that our readers, in turn, discover and enjoy.

Actually, I found this to be quite enjoyable to read. The idea was clean and composition was excellent. In that, the reader could sense the passion you have for writing, the excitement given by exploring topics and new definitions, so to speak. There is just a few questions or points I have for paragraph three: what do you mean by various species? Could you explain that more? Did you mean various spaces? And the other thing, which is quite minor, is that excited is spelled incorrectly.

"They may not have been dipping quills, exactly, and maybe not in ink, but as they travelled the coastlines and wildernesses, the lands they held at quill-tip would become defined and well-known." I really love this line, but I think you don't need the "exactly" in the sentence. It detracts from the flow of the sentence and slows the reader down.

Otherwise, I enjoyed reading it. Thank you for sharing.
Reserved for utter nonsense.

The way you have compared Map Making and Writing is so original but so obvious that it's perfect. You've created a piece which is unique and really gets your readers thinking, it's almost like a famous quote. It's brilliant! Absolutely flawless!
The only error I can see you've made is with the word "exited" which I'm guessing you mean to be "excited" ?

Absolutely fabulous!
Ben.
