*Has been reading Sherlock Holmes this morning and still can't get over the fact that he's a druggie*

I think the later books, after he died, are supposed to be set before he dies, aren't they? Because there are loads of spinoffs where people try to explain what happened to him at the end of the story.
"What if, doctor, we need these knots and these tangles because they're the only things holding our souls down - and if we untied the knots and untangled the tangles and stretched them out ... would our souls just float away?"

Star light; star bright,

I've been fangirling over this movie ever since I've been to see it a few months ago, and I haven't stopped yet.

I was a bit worried at first, since it looked like they were going to take it in a direction unusual to what is usually associated with Sherlock Holmes - more action, what seemed like the intervention of magic(!!?). Then I actually got into the theater, watched, and spent the whole time grinning like an idiot.

Because really, when you re-read the books? The movie's kept a lot of it. Holmes fighting? Canon: he's described by Watson as being proficient in boxing and having participated in amateur matches, as well as having some skills at bartitsu, which is based on Japanese martial arts, and uses his cane to fight a couple of times. Watson kicking butt? The man's just back from war, is still fit and has quite some success with the ladies, which doesn't exactly fit with his usual portrayal as a bumbling, inept sidekick. And yeah I know I'm repeating stuff people have already said, but I can't help but ramble about this movie.

Also, Guy Ritchie must know about the slash fangirls, because there is no way so much subtext could have made it in otherwise. RDJ's doing nothing to dissuade them, either.

Some more ramblings: Mary was awesome and I liked her a lot. Irene was great. I have a slightly inappropriate crush on Lord Coward. This is the best fandom EVAAAAR (srsly. Never wrote so much fanfiction before). I have this vague hope that Moriarty will be played by Hugh Laurie in the next movie, but that's 99% chance to be wishful thinking on my part. Gladstone was the best.

Ahem.
tl;dr SH09 was awesome and made of much win and I love it to pieces.

There's going to be a sequel!?
-screams like a fangirl, jumping up and down running through the streets-
Wait, what?

Yeah, they restored my faith in Dr. Watson; I knew he was a kickbutt tough-guy.
I was so scared also, worried that they would make Sherlock Holmes into a womanizing, super-guy, druggie. I was astonished to find that there isn't a single cuss word in the whole movie also.

We should make a Sherlock Holmes fan group. -nods-

And yes, Hugh Laurie should be Professor Moriatry.

There's been talk of it, yes. And anyway, what was Moriarty in this movie for, if not to serve as bait for the next movie? You can't have a complete Sherlock Holmes without a proper Holmes vs. Moriarty showdown.

I adored Watson in this movie. He is a bit different from book!Watson, in that he seems to have a much quicker temper and doesn't seem to venerate Holmes quite as much (book!Watson had ridiculously low self-esteem and acted like a lovestruck puppy at times; movie!Watson is less indulgent, and I find grounds Holmes a bit more).

So pretty much you were afraid they were going to make Holmes a Tony Stark in Victorian England, huh? Womanizing would be totally out of character: he's always explicitly written as not being interested in women, with the notable exception of Irene, and this more because she outsmarted him than anything else.

If we make a group, I'm in.

And yes. Yes he should.

Who watched Sherlock? It was so brilliant. I just can't believe they only made three episodes. Can't wait until the new series starts!
'The name's Salmon, like the fish. First name, Suzie.'

'Don't make people into heroes, John, they don't exist and if they did I wouldn't be one of them.'

'Curiouser and curiouser said Alice'
