Redwall by Brian Jacques

Recently in my Language Arts class, I read a book called Redwall. It is about a young mouse who has to defend the abbey where he lives against a clan of rats led by a rat called Cluny the Scourage. It is very good. I normally do not read fantasy but I enjoyed this one. It was sweet and well written. Has anyone read it?

I wish I could read Redwall books for my classes. I still have a huge nostalgic love for the Redwall series. It's repetitive at times, and the bizarre racist undertones are a little disturbing (although this is something unfortunately common to fantasy as a whole), but they're good wholesome fun.

I read a lot of those books when I was younger. It seems a little weird for you to be reading them in class, though. I guess they are sort of modern legends with animals and very boring descriptions of food? I did enjoy them, but I'd probably file them under the title of 'Typical Unfufilling Fantasy Lit.'

Redwall is nice. Jacques, as a survivor of WWII, has painted war vivdly that the protagonist almost become surreal (although in reality they are since the characters are non-human LOL). i think all points taken, it is wholesome and a book for quite all ages. I am happy that you came to read it.

I love the Redwall books, I must say. Yes, there are stereotypes
(such as genteel or gluttonous hares), but take a look at
Martha in "Loamhedge."

Oh, I've read a few of the Redwall books. My favorite is a tie between Lord Brocktree and Tagerung. I normally hate fantasy in this sense, the medial sense. Yet for some reason, I just love the use of animals for main characters, and how he describes the food makes me wanna learn to cook that well. Hehe, I'm a bit of a hare myself, pardon the racism from the book.

The Redwall books are arguably the best fantasy books around. I'm not much of a fan of fantasy either, but the Redwall books are great. I think that personifying animals is genius. My favorite book of the series, besides 'Redwall" is "Outcast of Redwall" it is about a ferret raised in Redwall and turns evil and a beast of a badger who fights him. This one was quite good. OH MY GOSH!!! I LOVE THAT BOOK!!!
I was under the impression that I was one of the only people in the world who knew about it. It has been making me depressed but no longer!
Actually, the book 'Redwall' is not the best one. My opinion, of course. I probably like Lord Brocktree the best (I have read every single one of them) but I also very much like Loamhedge, Taggerung, The Legend of Luke, Mattimeo, Marlfox, Rakkety Tam ... the list goes on.
The only things I find annoying about the series are: the repetitiveness (often different books have quite a similar plot to others) and the sense that revenge is right. Which it's not. Just saying
But I do love this series. It has a special place in my heart and on my bookshelf. Forever friends.

I used to read Red Wall. I loved the descriptions of the battle and the feasts. I love it. I think that I am going to take it up again.
