What's the Deal With Inkpop?

Sarah, peanut19, and Stella told me about inkpop yesterday. I joined, and it seems to be a site based on popularity where all the members fight for rankings, importance, and a spot on the top five because apparently, the top five stories get read by the editorial board of Harper Teen.

It's not YWS, that's for sure--you can't review using quotes or right click on the page, the members who greet you deceive you because they really want you to put their story to be "pick-worthy", they brag too much, their forums are hard to navigate, it's more novel-sized than any writing you have.

But it's good for some things, especially if you're looking for a safe place to get feedback on your novel. Sure most of the time members say "That was lovely! Cool!" or things like that, but there are a few I saw who have critiques that YWS would approve of and some pretty interesting, well-developed stories. You can also post short-stories, poems, and essays.

The only other downside I'd say is the fact that there's no chatroom, so whenever they have author chats like yesterday with Carolyn Macker, you have to keep refreshing a thread, which is really annoying.

--------------------

The main point of this thread? Well, I was thinking since there are defintely some aspiring novelists here :P *you know who you are*, if YWSers go swarm inkpop, it's possible that one of our people could make it to the top. A work needs to be top-picked approximately over 100 times and increase if you want to make it to the top five, and there are definitely a lot of YWS members.

So! If you plan to join http://inkpop.com/Default.aspx

You cannot dream yourself into a character; you must hammer and forge yourself into one.

The writer, when he is also an artist, is someone who admits what others don't dare reveal.

haha. I'm The Rebel Princess, I added you, Shina.

Inkpop is... weird. Some of the people are incredibly annoying. However, I found one author who a) didn't ask me to read her thing, b) was giving constructive criticism to others, and I looked at her project and it was really good.

It goes to show you.

I haven't posted anything there though...

And YWS pwns.

Inkpop is confusing! I don't know what to do... :S
Four kinds of people I hate most in life.
1. People who use a preposition to end a sentence with.
2. People who can't count.
3. People who think it's 'clever' to quote ironic phrases.

Their numero uno entry, ranked highest out of all the other works and followed by three very long pages of praise from fans:

Honest. Vivid. Real. Alex is a sixteen year old cutter on the edge of finally losing it. When he meets up with Anna, a lonely girl dealing with her crippling anxiety, he discovers that maybe there is a different way of dealing with his pain. Love. Will Alex be able to open himself after all the years of abuse and torture from his drunken military driven father? Or will his next cut be his last? Find out by reading The Scars We Hide.

This is a story that has the power to effect anyone. Despite what you may think about cutting, I dare you to take a chance. Crawl out of your comfort zone for a moment and look into the heart of a cutter. It might just change your life.

(I'm just about done with this, and I post a new chapter every day so check back for more!)

No thanks, angels-symphony.

Holy crap, this thing is old. Sorry for bringing up an old thread.

Personally, I love Inkpop. Don't get me wrong, I love you guys too, but it's my home-away-from here. I sort of fly under the radar there and I love it. Most of the novels, poems, and short stories I've read on there have little or no grammatical errors, which is (no offense) pretty nice. I've made a few friends there (64, I think) but only one actual friend-friend there and I'm okay with that. I've posted things on there I wouldn't dare post on here (unless I use another UN). Besides, the Top 5 is a little like our Featured Works thing, just a lot more exclusive.

If you want my UN on there, PM me; one of you has it but, like I said, my home-away-from here means no people that are nosey and who will probably read this post (think me being paranoid).

I just looked it over and wow.....that's NOTHING like YWS. YWS rules. This...well I read a coup,e of the works and saw the "Critiques". It's basically someone copying and pasting, OMG! THIS WAS GREAT! CHECK MINE OUT! IT"S *insert name*!! THIS WAS COOL!. Ahem.
I am nothing
but a mouthful of 'sorry's, half-hearted
apologies that roll of my tongue, smoothquick, like 'r's
or maybe like pocket candy
that's just a bit too sweet.

Not to contradict you always, but I counted at least three grammatical errors in the very first paragraph of the top pick on Inkpop ;)

It's all good. :) I haven't read any of the top picks this month anyway, I think. I tend to bypass the ones that have bad grammar I see automatically so I may be making too general of a statement.

Jasminebells--that's exactly why I don't read the comments. They sort of annoy me too.

Not me seeing all these wall posts about peoples quotes and wondering: "When will it be my turn?"
