Hello! I'm just another newbie!

Hi! I'm new around here, obviously, and I wanted to introduce myself to this friendly forum. My nickname is Chisel (don't ask why, my father thinks that my chin is too sharp, hence the name ), and I enjoy listening to good music and watching good old films. I guess I'm no mystery. I like to write too, but I'm just starting out and I hope that through this forum I can learn a lot about different techniques authors use to make their writing make a difference. Right now I'm working on this little piece about two characters - Eugenia and Balthazar - who are complete opposites in personalities, but since they grew up together, they have a lot of things in common and are different to the bone too. We'll see how that will turn out!

Why hello Chisel! What do you like to write about? There are a few things you need to know here:

Aw, you don't need to do anything special to submit work! But you can only submit two works per 2-day period, and that's mostly because we don't want people posting 13 poems and stories in a span of an hour (and yes, that's totally happened before!)

Anyway, welcome! It's really awesome having a classic movie buff here. My sister introduced me to all those movies and she got me hooked to TCM (which is a movie channel in the United States... don't know if you get it!) My favorite movie actually is "City Lights" which was basically created by Charlie Chaplin. Can't go wrong with him! But I love a lot of other classic movies. So what movies, in particular, are your favorite?

Hi Hope! I would say that good music is something with lyrics, which evoke deep emotion through presentation. I don't know a lot of styles of music, but my favorite genre is alternative rock. I'm a die hard fan of "Placebo", I also like listening to "Queen", Elton John, Robbie Williams, Joe Dassin and a bunch of Russian artists. What do you like to listen to?

Hi Ballerina! Thanks for the rules! Generally, I like to write "moppy" fiction with sad endings because I think that there are not enough sad short stories/books in the world, seeing that there is enough sadness in the world to be written about. There is no particular genre, again, but I like to base off of certain truthful events. My characters are usually pessimistic, but I enjoy working on any type of characterization in my work. The plot is probably something I'm struggling with. Who is your favorite musician? Do you dance?

Hi Snoink! I love your name! Oh, wow, “City Lights”? I’m not sure I’ve seen this one, but I’ve heard of it. Have you seen Chaplin’s “The Great Dictator”? It was released in the ‘40s. I like everything ranging from “Gone with the Wind” to “Citizen Kane” to “12 Angry Men” to “Dr. Strangelove”, those films with virtue of the previous century. There’s just too much of image manipulation with computer graphics these days, take any movie as an example! Who’s your favorite actor? I adore Peter Falk from the series of “Lt. Columbo”!

Oh, Gone With the Wind. I just watched that; it was a christmas present. Clark Gable is a dream.
But uh... I love moppy stories too, for the same reason as you; I think their more.. true to life. Everyone's welcomed you to yws but its special when I say it. WELCOME to Yws, Chisel.

And about current movies and their graphics: I just saw the new Sherlock Holmes, and I was really disappointed. They had a wonderful relationship between Sherlock and Watson, but almost none between he and Elina (or some name to that effect) and there was very little dialogue because they got all swept up in the graphics and the special effects and the action-ridden plot. And it had so much potential...
anyways, I agree with you. They didn't call it the Golden Age of Hollywood for no reason.

The Great Dictator is pretty much win. If the speech weren't in the end, I think it would be my favorite of his. But that globe scene... eek! It gives me chills.

I don't have a favorite actor or actress, per say, but... well... here's the movie cast of my novel (if I got my way):

Snoink- I adore that you have actors picked out for your novel's characters! I always hope that if my stories make it to the big screen, Dakota Fanning would play my favorite character: Dakota. The character's actually named after my dead brother, so she has nothing to do with my character's name. But, I think she would do an heck of a job!
