This is Chapter two, Part one of my novel - Bloodlust.

Hope you like it.
Throughout and brutal critiques are appreciated.
Also if you think this is too short and I should have posted the whole chapter then just notify me of my simple mistake okay?

EDITED - Thanks to Chirantha and JosephDean. Thanks!!

Chapter 2.

I woke up to find myself lying on the ground. My eyes darted around, looking, searching. Several eyes looked down at me, eyes that could easily be compared to rubies, red rubies full of emotion yet a hint of an unrestrained beast hidden inside, deep inside. The eyes belonged to the dark silhouettes that loomed before me, they had an aura of danger; a sinister malice that went hand to hand with their eyes. My eyesight improved slowly, although much faster than I had thought possible. As it did the silhouettes retreated into the dark shadows of the fairly large cell.

I sat up and looked around again; now that my eyesight had improved I could make out much more of the cell. It was large, dark and judging from the ominous eyes that had loomed above me before, the cell also contained several other prisoners. I did not feel the temperature, it was always cold now. I noticed that I could see every single detail in the cell. From the small cracks and lines used to mark the dates to the large metal hooks that were fixed onto the wall to help the jailer torture his victims. There were numerous dents in the wall, the only remaining evidence of futile efforts to escape the inescapable fate that lay waiting. The ground was damp and infested with algae, much more than the walls that looked ancient enough to be roughly a hundred years old.

I was wet. I felt the heat-less liquid flow down my body. My clothes were already sticking onto my body, giving a clear view of it. I struggled to cover myself as best as I could. A feeling of exposure and Vulnerability engulfed me. My body ached and I felt weak, very weak.

The small sound of old leather disturbing the serene water, making it ripple slightly made me turn towards it instantly, afraid. I stopped looking around and slowly pushed myself towards the wall behind me. I had to stay upright. On reaching my destination I pushed myself up onto the moist wall and breathed out a sigh. It was only then that I realized that my lungs had been inactive for the past few minutes. I froze in horror, I had not realized this... infirmity before. Fear and excitement had left no space in my mind to care of such trivial matters.

Every since that day... that fateful day you changed... forever.

I did not wish to live in the past, ‘forget the past, live in the present and fight for the future’ my father had used to say frequently. My father... a hero, a scholar...

A beast!

This was all his fault. Was it not him that imprisoned my sister? Was it not him that used her as a filthy test subject? But... he was my father, my beloved father. And she my sister, my darling sister, the same sister who had killed my father. What did I deserve to forget everything before the year I was found lying on the snow one night? What secrets did my memory hold for me? Maybe even solutions to current problems?
Someone caused echoes to rebound back and forth across the cell, the echo of someone stepping on water, or more accurately the sound of bare skin touching the calm water sending ripples through it.

I refrained from letting my mind wonder and started concentrating on the ripple. I could estimate the height, age and weight of the man just from the ripple that now moved closer to me. Before I could though, the perfect ripple was disturbed by yet another ripple, this time caused by a drop of water. It was two feet and three inches from the origin of the first ripple.

I froze again. How could I have calculated the distance between the ripples? What was I becoming? More importantly who or what made these ripples? My mind wondered, trying to solve the infinite questions that appeared in my mind, tormenting it.

“Who are you?” A voice that seemed to come from all around me asked.

The voice was strong, and clearly masculine. He was weak and yet his pride was strong, his voice showed this clearly. I did not want to answer; why wouldn’t this man leave me alone? He would probably kill me or torment me when he found out that I was a very weak Vampire. I was scared mildly but not terrified. I waited for a while before answering “I don’t know”.

The man either did not take my reply as a satisfying answer or did not wish to converse further for the silence that followed my short reply was sickening and unbearable. A feeling of being stalking in the silence overcame me forcing me to break the silence.

“I don’t know” I repeated “I don’t remember anything before my adoption last year. I... and now all I remember are small fragments of memories long lost to me. My memory is slipping away, I can no longer remember things that happened a few months ago either... it’s as if my life is slipping out if my grasp... spiraling into a dark abyss of hatred... hatred and sorrow.” I tried to explain, stammering whilst keeping my head low, close to my legs that were held tightly to my chest by my stiff hands.

No reply came and I gave up hope. What was hope? A scrawny human emotion that tormented the mind? Or was it something else? Something that gave strength to humans and willed them to fight on? I was human, not a bloodsucker. I would fight to the end, I would not let my body be taken over by this accursed virus that spread slowly and painfully.

I willed my eyes to close although afraid to do so in this filthy place filled with God knows what. After all I did not want to cry.

Cry?

Could I cry? Was I not supposed to be dead? My whole body rotten and wile, forsaken by God himself.

God is nothing to you!

What was this voice in my head tormenting me so? It was not me, it could not be me and yet, it was me... some deep hidden part of me wanting to escape from her prison inside of me. I would fight though, fight against her, her who seemed to be my inner instincts. I would fight!

But you Cannot Win

No! I would win, I would fight till the end. I had to fight, to protect my... innocence. I had to be strong, I had to fight on.

Very Well...

The silence seemed intolerable as usual. What was more intolerable was the feeling of being watched by others. The fear of being consumed alive by something invisible that could not be fought made me shrink back, pushing against the wall harder and then finally opening my eyes.

I was surrounded. Three men crouched beside me. They were concentrating on my presence and I knew it. I could almost feel their watchful eyes moving across my body, looking, studying and thinking.

Their skin was paler than the normal hue of human skin. It seemed fair and white even in the dark atmosphere. They were Vampires.

*Well? Try commenting on all aspects of the story please :P*
*Awaiting other reviews patiently :P*

Ahh! Finaly, the vampire genius returns to story writing. :D

Hmm, although I've read this before, it seems too serious now. Too deep and complex. But I like it. So.....

I woke up; I was lying on the floor. I looked around.

This is too abrupt. You seem to be trying to point out too many things in very few sentences. Maybe change this to, "I opened my eyes. Though my eye sight was blurry, I looked around, and so that I was lying on the ground"

eyes that could easily be compared to rubies,

Its more better to say, "eyes that easily could have been rubies"

sinister danger that went hand to hand with their eyes.

I think it should be 'A sinister danger' although I'm not so sure.

It was large, dark and judging from the eyes I had seen before

Shouldn't it be 'judging from my memory'?

the cell also contained several other prisoners.

This should be a new sentence.

much more than the walls that looked ancient enough to be a hundred years old.

Try adding 'about' after 'enought to be'

My clothes were already sticking onto my body, giving a clear view of it.

Clear view of what? Blood flowing through your body? I'm confused.

I body ached and I felt weak, very weak.

Should be 'my body' and you should cut the second 'I' as it's unnecessary.

The slight sound of old leather disturbing the serene water, making it ripple slightly made me turn towards it instantly, afraid.

Change the word 'slight' to 'small'

And she my sister, my beloved sister, my sister who had killed my father.

Cut the second, 'my sister' as it's not necessary since you already mentioned your sister at the start of the sentence.

and echo of someone stepping on water, or more accurately the sound of bare skin touching the calm water sending rippled through it.

This should be a new sentence and should 'The echo' at the start. And also, it should be 'sending ripples through it'

The voice was strong and male.

This sentence should be either, 'The voice was strong and that of a male's" or "The voice was a strong, male one"

I did not want to answer, why wouldn’t this man leave me alone?

It should be a semicolon, not a comma at the middle of this sentence.

What was more intolerable was the feeling of being watched by other.

'By others' :)

Well, I having nothing overall to say, just want to read the next part. And this way is easier that reading a full chapter.

Well, good luck. :D

:) I haven't been online to YWS in *forever*. I've actually decided to stop posting stuff here a long while ago. However! I cannot resist the New Private Message alerts that go off in my email inbox. Therefore, my presence exists once again.

Most of the little things I saw were caught by Chirantha first, so all I'll say is to monitor your usage of the word "I". After a while, it gets a little repetitive, lol. Other than that, the plot of this chapter is just as great as I remember the first. Very excellent :)

Heheh, Thanks Guys, I owe you a lot for reviewing it after such a long time. I also hope others will too.

Joseph, - Thank you for reviving your presence in YWS and critiquing my simple piece of work. And Yes I will cut down on the usage of the word 'I'. Firestalker(Yes Firestalker is trying to reduce the usage of 'I') just read it and found that what you said was absolutely right. :P

Did you there were 60 'I' in this piece of work  and not to mention only 1,176 words!

Hope Firestalker reduced this amount, at least a little :P

Chirantha - Thank you too for reviewing my story and pointing out many mistakes that I myself can't believe I made :P

Also to reduce your confusion,

It was large, dark and judging from the eyes I had seen before

Shouldn't it be 'judging from my memory'?

Well I made that a little more clearer. The real phrase is indeed judging from my memory, but what i meant is that judging from the eyes Arianna saw when she woke up. Get it?

And also -

My clothes were already sticking onto my body, giving a clear view of it.

Clear view of what? Blood flowing through your body? I'm confused.

I didn't say anything about blood C, and Vampire's can't see blood pumping through one's body, they can see blood pumping through one's veins if they want to. Read the sentence again, stop at the it and go back looking for any nouns. You'll find the answer -.-

Thanks again Guys, I edited it by the way, It should be better now.

Hey Firestalker!
I have read all your posts so far, and honestly, I really do like this story. Such a refreshing viewpoint after Twilight.
I caught one thing, in the first paragraph.
"The eyes belonged to the dark silhouettes that loomed before me, they had an aura of danger; a sinister danger that went hand to hand with their eyes."
I don't know, it isn't my say, but I think that danger is overused. 'sinister malice' sounds cooler too me, more mysterious.

Anyways, I don't think that helps much, but do keep writing, this is awesome!
I hate cynicism -- it's my least favorite quality and it doesn't lead anywhere. Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you're kind, amazing things will happen. I'm telling you, amazing things will happen. - Conan O'Brien
