My Charcoal Experiment

These are the result of my first experiments with charcoal.

P.S. And yes I just realized that the horse's knee is a little out of proportion.

These are great! I love them all...

1) the horse's hoof got cut off or is it not in the picture? I guess that's just the scanner.

2)the horse's eye would be beautiful if it was a little larger and a little lower on its face. though I'm not sure if that's really where the eye is at this angle, it's just my obsession with eyes in pictures.

3) The pilgrim woman's bust is disproportionately large.

4) Oh, I love her face, though! And the pitchfork looks formidable.

5) the Asian woman in the kimono could use more detail and definition in her face. I love the pilgrim's face. Her hand is also very paw-like.

6) The man in the top hat's nose is a little lopsided, but I love his expression! He looks so funny.

All in all, you have some wonderful drawings here. *Gold Star!*

I love the character in their faces, and the horse is magnificent.

There is so much character in these! And I am uber jealous of your ablilty to draw in charcoal without smearing!

All of them seem a little out of proportion or a little skewed, but it just add so much quirk to the drawings. It's awesomesauce.

I love the similarity of the pose of the peasant woman and the lady in the kimono and yet the complete opposite impressions they give: one of rough work and the other of gentility.

The man in the hat makes me smile. He seems just a bit silly in the head maybe, but in a rather amusing way. I approve.

The quality of the lines is awesome. However, the only criticism I have at all for any of them is the lady in the kimono and involves the lines: the difference between the dark of her hair and sash, etc. and the thinness of the lines everywhere else is so extreme that she kind of gets lost in the contrast. Perhaps darken up the rest of the outline a little? The designs in her kimono could stay light, but as of right now, her overall outline, especially her face and teapot, feels rather spindly in comparison to the heavy smears of black filling.

Overall, though, these are lovely. I am jealous of your skillz with teh charcoal. Gold star from me!

I've worked with charcoal before....and I sucked.
You on the other hand, you're brilliant. I love the horse, it shows so much emotion and movement, and I know horses are pretty hard to draw. Congratulations!

Horse
Wow, I'm impressed! As Pink remarked, horses are incredibly hard to draw. And I suck at drawing them. However, the lines could've been cleaned up a little more, and I'd like to see the whole horse. Yes, I know, I'm picky!

Sweeping Woman
Nice. The lines of her face and the hanging sleeve could definitely be outlined again, though, and be more defined. As well as the broom. But everything else was great!

Asian Tea
I believe this is Japanese style, but I'm not sure. Great outline, but again, some lines are very faint when they need to be bold and dark.

Strange Old Man Caricature
Haha, very funny. This is one of the best caricatures I've ever seen! (coming from me, that's a lot!) I love how whimsical you made the man seem, and how enjoyable the picture is.

Great job overall! I can't wait to review more of your works.

You drew these with charcoal!!
Wow, your certainly talented to do something like this.

The horse is simply the best of them all, the best and the most detailed. Its simply... marvelous!!

And not to mention the sweeping old lady, although not as detailed as the horse, it gives a feeling that it was done by a professional artist, so wow again!

What i don't like about the Japanese lady is her face, which looks like an angry flattened board The rest though, like the birds on the Kimono and the tea-thingy (I cant believe i've forgotten what its called o.O)are perfect in its lines and figure.

Forget the detail, forget the tools, forget the proportion and forget all and every other factor that affects a picture, if one forgets these I can give a gold star for its unique expression only!!!
