NaNoWriMo- need advice!

I've been trying to do the NaNoWriMo, but all I've ever written are short stories- nothing beyond two hundred (minimized) pages. I can't find the right incentive to keep going- I hit a writers block and then can't find the heart to muscle my way past it and keep going.

Any advice?

Just write about anything, or use the lovely thing called 'Filler'

Just babble on, don't worry it being good, the point of NaNo is to really get 50,000 words done which are used as a skeleton for real novels. Have a character tell a story? Talk about their past? Add a character that twists events? Or have the character have some sort of realization?

Just keep going, don't let anything stop you.

200 pages is a short story for you?
Then NaNo should be no issue! 50k is about 150-175 pages.
I'm doing NaNo as well... I find it very helpful to get away from all discration. Turn off the TV, don't talk to your friends. Just write. Even if what comes out sucks, just write. NaNo is about quantity, not quality. Quality comes when you edit.
At first, I was having a difficult time making the word counts because I was so invested in every syllable I wrote.
Here's the trick: Don't be.
Don't fuss over every metaphor, every dependent clause. Just write. And sometimes that's when the best stuff comes from.

Well, I cheat, 200 minimized pages is really about 120 normal printer-paper sized pages. So you can see that to a coward like me 50,000 is rather daunting...

You know, when I was first learned of NaNoWriMo, that extra zero in the word count somehow didn't register- so I had thought it was five grand instead of fifty. Bring it on

Then I found out.

Thanks for the advice- I think it's a bit late to start an actual NaNo- but when you're aiming for 50,000 words you gotta start somewhere, right?
