This is one of my choices for a school contest. The theme is "Beauty is...". I need harsh critics and don't be afraid to edit! :D
Thank you!

_____
.
Imagination shines
And honesty glows
Many traits are noticeable
But some nobody knows
_____
.
Of course people have respect
And others can be fair
But something you hardly see
Rare and new,
Is true beauty
_____
.
The light that comes from inside the mind
To glow out in true intelligence
Thinking and solving the world's own puzzles
The mind is never dull or dense
_____
.
True beauty is the mind
Struggling to do its duty
And figure out the impossible question,
What exactly is beauty?

Eek! If they give you a question, you have to answer it! The easiest way to lose is to not answer the question and then simply spit it out back at them!

First of all, get rid of this poem! Next, get a piece of scratch paper and start brainstorming. Here are some questions that you can think about:

What do you think is beautiful?

Do you think you are beautiful? Why/Why not?

Has there ever been a moment where you started crying, simply because you were so overwhelmed by beauty?

Think of the following sensations that you've experienced:

- The most wonderful touch you've ever felt.

- The most wonderful smell you've smelled.

- The most wonderful sound you've ever heard.

- The most wonderful sight you've seen.

- The most wonderful taste you've tasted.

Were any of these experiences beautiful? Why or why not?

What is beauty NOT?

What do you love to do? Is this beautiful?

Anyway, I hope this helps your brainstorming! Once you have a thought of what beauty is, then you can start writing.

Good luck! :D

Um... Thank you for the review, but I did answer the question. Notice in the last verse I say 'True beauty is the mind'.
The poem was just something I threw together, and thank you for the tips. I'll definently try again! :D

I have to agree with Snoink... and you really should take criticism a little more easily. my school is having that contest too, and I can give you advice from many years of entering-- you need to give them a sound answer. Abstract answers just don't work. They want you to tell them what you think is beautiful, not that beauty is in the mind. Your poem isn't bad... but it just won't work for the contest.

Good luck!

Thank you.
I'm sorry if I sounded like I wasn't trying to take criticism, I didn't mean to be that harsh. :(
But thank you again for your help, I think I know what I'm going to write about this time... :D
