Hey!

Hi! I'm Tori, and im (you guessed it) new to TYWS. I love it already, and have posted most of a story im writing- it's called "my first story-- part (insert number)". Comments and reviews would be awesome! thanks for welcoming me in!

Hi there, Tori! Welcome to YWS. *hands cookie*

I'm sure that you'll love it here! And now I'll just go over the rules.

1) The 3:1 Ratio. Basically it's recommended that you do 3 reviews for every piece of work that you post. So you've posted ... 9 things so far. That means it's recommended that you do 27 reviews . But don't worry, reviews just need to say what you liked and what could be improved. I'm afraid that earlier comments you've made on other people's work haven't counted, they need to be over 3 lines to be counted as a review!
- To check your review ratio go to My YWS > My Profile > Statistics.

(By the way, I'd be careful about posting too much of your story at once. It kind of fills up the forums!)

2) Rate your work. If it has "adult scenes", excessive violence or language then it'll need to be rated accordingly. Some people don't like to read certain things so it's considerate if you rate things that you post.

3) No cht spk OR CAPS LOCK. This includes proper grammar, capitilization and apostrophes. Well, YWS is a writing site!

4) Be nice. So no flaming other members and please keep your language in your stories.

5) Have fun! (Not hard to do.)

What can't you live without? Are you looking forward to Christmas?

Heya Tori! Welcome, welcome to our big YWS family. *hugs*

Let's talk about some tips on reviews. I haven't seen any of your reviews, but it sounds from Aqua that your going to be doing lots! Don't be intimidated, reviewing is lots of fun! It shouldn't be a chore, because not only does the writer benefit, but you do as well. I can say being exposed to different styles and genres of writing than you're probably used to has a great effect on your future pieces. So here we go!

~Do them when you have time, not when you just have a few moments to spare and hastily punch in an 'I like it,' on the keyboard.

~Put some real quality into your reviews. That means organize it, show the writer whatever you see that needs improving, and make other reviewers say 'Wow, that reviewer really did a good job!'.

~Be kind and thoughtful when reviewing. Even if you find the piece horrifying, littered with bad grammar, spelling, and writing techniques, point out the good. It helps make the reviewing experience better and also helps the writer keep on writing. One day that writer will come out with a great piece from the encouragement, and she/he will have you to thank for that. It's a long, hard journey transforming from a writer who can hardly write a paragraph that makes sense to beautifully written chapters. So be the one who supports that, because a few kind words of encouragement go a long way.

~Instructors are great role models for excellent reviews. If you ever happen to see a purple member, why not peruse through their past reviews? I'm sure you'll pick up more pointers than I can give.

You'll see your reviews shape up tremendously while you're here at YWS, along with your writing. I'm impressed with your review count, so keep up the good work!
