I picked up the cam when I was bored late in the night

I picked up the camera yesterday night and clicked a bunch of stuff! Also, since I'll have to post many posts if I have to upload pictures separately, I've combined 4 of them in one picture.

Here's one more.

As a general rule, try not to preface your work with a 'something I slapped together' sort of preface. It lowers expectations and generally makes people wary of your work. Here, I wasn't expecting much at all on reading that preface, but I'm glad to say you've exceeded my expectations by far.

The first photo of the hand is so cool. The composition could have been improved, but that's easily overlooked. I like it because the subject is unique, and even though it's kind of a 'dead on' approach from the camera, it's enjoyable.

The next of the twisted pencil's okay. Here, you're pretty much only using the 'dead on' focal point, which is boring, because that's how we see stuff! If you come in at a better angle, such as a 45 from above or a ground angle, you'd give this a cooler perspective and make it more appreciative for the rest of us.

I like the one of the finger on the keyboard. It's neat, though a bit blurry and noisy. I think the darkness of it gives it a sinister feel to it, which is really cool. Good job.

And, lastly! The one of the phone is cool. I like your focus, and same thing here with the darkness. It's got a touch of blur and noise, but that could easily be overlooked.

The chocolate shot is cool as well, but I think that if you focused on a single curl of chocolate and defocused the rest, this would be about a million times cooler.

Nice work. You're not half bad. In fact, you're pretty good-- I'd like to see more of your photography. Good stuff.

Hi Lava!

There is one quick tip I can give you as Juniper has pretty much covered everything.

Play around with it! The best photography is usually the one that is unexpected. Work with angles, light and eye-paths. Staged or not staged? You choose! Expanded your photographic knowledge, even if it gets negative reviews! Just give it a shot.

For example, you seem to use the dead on shot. For the hand I think it would be cool if you had taken it where the fingers meet the mouse and look up. Or for the twisty pen, get closer and have an out of focus piece of the pencil then another twist farther away in focus.

Just play around!

Hey! I need to review because I want to post something, so here we go!

The Hand.

This. Is. Awesome. Okay, the hand is. The photo could use some work.

The angle is a pretty boring. Head-on things often are, unless the subject looks best that way. It doesn't give us any depth or sureal feeling, which could happen with even this odd-ball subject, and it just shows us a hand on a mouse. The hand is awesome, I'm kind of liking the lighting, all you need to work on is the angle. Try taking the same picture multiple time, with different angles each time.

The Pencil.

Just listen to Juniper. Again, a different angle would do wonders. I like the way you twisted it up, but it really needs some work. The background is weird. I have no idea what it is. The lighting could be better, because the reflection in the center is a little distracting. Also, it's just there. The Rule of Thirds is the most helpful tool for photographers ever invented, in my opinion. It saves the world. That and duct tape, but that's another matter. If you had stuck it to the side, or where we only saw it coming out of a corner. In fact, this angle could work if you did something like stick it out of a corner.

Sharpen your pencils.



The Keyboard.

Here we go. Much better. Much, much, os-so-very much better. At first I hated the fact that the fingers were blurry, but now I'm starting to like that. It's different. It's a crisp photo, it's just the focus is odd... I like it.

Looks like you have a laptop. Cool.


The Phone Cord.

Yeah. Here we go. Awesome. This is what I've been waiting for. Quality! The cord look a little weird the way you set it across in front, but either way, this has an awesome angle. You have it in you, just stick with your other ideas! I like this pic.

Our phones are cordless. We lose them and have no cool pictures. Bummer.


The Chocolate.

This looks like it came from a Godiva add. At first I thoguht it was pendil shaving, but then I read it was chocolate. Juniper said it all here.


Overall:

You are really good, with good ideas. You just need to practice angle and getting things in just the right spot. Otherwise? You're great! Keep it up!

I didn't know about the 'Rule Of Thirds" until now. Thank you for enlightening me.

Also, we do have cordless phones, it's just that I keep misplacing the handset, so my mom's installed this in my room.

I am still new to reviewing photographs so I can't help you very much. I can, however, tell you what I think - which is what I'm going to do. So, I kind of don't agree about the angle thing [in the first picture] that TexanWriter said. The angle was head on, that's a given, but it was still unusual, because you didn't show the whole hand. I really liked the background for that one.
Sorry but I really didn't like the pencil picture, because of the lighting. It's too bright right under the pencil, and then too dark under it, when it isn't that dark above it. Am I getting through? I have no idea how to explain this. Maybe it's a method I don't know about, but I just tend to like when it darkens out evenly on the edges.
The fingers\keyboard picture was a bit odd to me. I didn't like the fact that the fingers were not even both in color and in the blur thing. The keyboard came out really cool, though.
The phone I liked a lot! It came out really good, some of the string closer and darker than the other. The background is awesome too. A very good picture, in my mind.
The chocolate instantly reminded me of moths. I didn't know what it was until I read about it. I thought there were a bit too many things to focus on, but then again, that all depends on what you like. It was still really good.
I hope I managed to help a bit.

It was pretty amusing to look at these photos and I thought I could give some of my comments here.

First of all, the first photo you have, 'the hand', it looked clearly unusual to me but it was really an intriguing one. I haven't seen that thing before as far as I could remember and now I'm really impressed.
Keyboard. You focused on your hand on the keyboard so that what makes it blurry at the corners. You did a good focal statement.

As for the other photos, I liked it.

Wow, Lava, these are very nice. Not much is left for me to say, except for the fact that some look slightly off-focus to me. Does your camera have a macro or super-macro function? If you use it, you can touch things to the lens and it'll still be in focus. Granted, stuff a half millimeter away will be completely out of focus, but that's the beauty of macro.

Note, I know this only because my older brother is a wizard with cameras. I couldn't take a good photo to save my life.

wow these pics are amazing! im no photographer so sadly i cannot give you any prefessional tips so all i can do is *hi -5 and say awesome pics!

I think somebody already told you that the way you make pretty average, every-day objects look really cool just by focal points and playing with the light a little. I didn't really like the pencil one, you can see the reflection of the flash and it's distracting, but other than that these pictures are really cool. I like that you can do a lot with a little.
