June made me post pictures again. xD
Since I'm feeling artsy, I suppose I'll title them.

Those are quite a few very large pics. Mmk, bad new first.

I liked all of them, but there were a few that could use a little work, or could have been better.

12 could have been simply **amazing** if it would have been in focus, or perhaps a new angle.

6 would have also been amazingly gorgeous (and reminded my of the book Beast) if it was in focus...on the rose. Because it's in focus, it's just that the wall is in focus rather than the rose. Unless you wanted it to be like that?

and then there's 2.....2 just doesn't do it for me, sorry Splodey. The whole thing is just a bit average. If the colors would have been more intense, or the lighting just a bit different, or if there was someone/thing in there (unless there is and I missed it) it would have been more interesting, but right now... not so much.


Besides those three I lurve them, and think that if you work a little more you could be fantastic photographer.

You make NY look very attractive. I am thinking about moving to Manhattan for culinary school. This only intensifies my desire. I really like the colors and size of #7 - Some are a little stock photo like. You do have a talented eye, keep it up!

Awesome pictures, the river and NYC one was my favorite! The squirrel and chickadee one you should have centered the animals so it's just in the bottom half.

Here we go

1 - ooh I like this one. The focus is pretty awesome especially on the...middle bit? I do wish that the rain drops on the leaves were a little more in focus and that the focus wasn't so concentrated on the middle part of the flower. The colours are pretty amazing though. I love how the yellow just jumps out and is so vibrant. Good Job.

2 - Hmmm I don't really like this one. What is your focus? Is it the little tree or is it the footpath? I'm not sure at all and that isn't really good when you are considering photographs. You need to direct the viewer in some sort of direction otherwise it just becomes a very messy frame of too many elements. Also the colours are a bit washed out. Usually in autumnal photographs I like to see the richness of the colours of the leaves but the light in this is a little odd. I'm guessing it may have been an overcast day. Of course you can't control the weather. I probably would have focused on the leaf covered path that leads to the water beyond the tree. Then the photograph would have told more of a story and pulled the viewer in.

3 - This one is better than the last one, in that you have a direction through the photograph for the eye to follow. Just try to keep the viewer in mind when taking the photo and then the composition tends to branch off from that consideration. The colours in this photo are a little better and I do like the composition. However the sky is very washed out and just has no detail. Perhaps next time you go out photographing on a sort of dull day you could fiddle with the ISO or the manual function (I'm not sure how sophisticated your camera is) and this will let you decide how much light you let into the camera. This could let you have more detail in the sky on overcast days but also make the colours seem a little less washed out. I also think that to my eye this photo seems a little out of focus. But again I do like the composition of this one.

4 - Oh I like this one. I love the silhouettes and the sky is beautiful and well done for taking this out of a car. In my experience you can get some amazing shots when you lean out of a car. All I would say is that there is a tad too much black at the bottom, it kind of unbalances the composition of the photo somewhat. So maybe you could crap that a bit? Otherwise I really love this shot.

5 - oooh the colours on this one are lovely. I love the reds of the leaves and the blue of sky, very good. On the other hand I think it is a little out of focus, it just seems fuzzy to me. So just keep an eye on that when you choose photographs or when you take photographs. Composition wise this is a good composition but I think what could have made it better, is if you had stood next to the trunk of the tree and then shot upwards. Then the viewers eye would have been allowed to travel up the trunk and to the beautiful red leaves above. I hope you understand what I mean.

6 - Hmm. I really love the concept of this photo and love what it would have been, the yellow roses against the brick but I don't think it quite worked. Focus wise I think you should have swapped it around. So I think the big rose in front should have been in focus and the other rose and the background should have been out of focus. or you could have tried to do it so that it all was in focus, that would have made for a very interesting photo. The rose in the foreground just annoys my eye because it is so big and so out of focus it just distracts. Other than that I again love the colours of this photograph and the composition of the shot even if it didn't work out that well.

7 - Firstly, I want those shoes. I really like this shot, a whole lot. It just seems like one of those off hand things you do on the spur of seeing it. It's not a planned shot, you just do it and it comes out really well. I love those sort of shots. It's well composed, I like how tight you went on the shoes and I love the colours of the shoes and the leaves that surround them. Good Job.

8 - This shot is...interesting lol. Composition wise it is good and the colours are good, as is the focus. I just don't get it really. Not one of my favourite shots in this bunch I'm afraid to say. But I do wonder why it is there.

9 - It is pretty difficult to get shots of the moon. I tried once when we had a moon eclipse but the camera just didn't like trying to focus on it. Good idea and everything but it's just out of focus (as you know) and all the bits of dust and stuff that the flash have caught are kind of distracting and just make it seem as though your lens is mucky. Good effort though.

10 - I like this one. You seem to be pretty good at taking shots of flowers. I like how the front one is in focus but the back one is out of focus. I like the composition, the colours and well good job.

11 - This one seems alot like a before shot. If I hadn't have read the title I wouldn't know what you are trying to focus on or what is your subject. Is it the rock? the tree? the fence? It's quite a messy frame again and there is no clear path in the photo for us to latch onto. Try getting closer to the tree and making it the sole focus of your photo, composition wise. It also seems a little fuzzy again and a little washed out. Concept wise though, good idea.

12 - All I would say is that even though you are trying to get a shot of the bird, I assume your camera has a digital zoom? Whenever I had a digital zoom I would try not to go into it because it just makes the picture quality pretty bad. Also I realise when you are trying to photograph animals you don't usually have much time to consider composition and settings on your camera, you just snap and hope for the best. So good try.

13 - Awe! Squirrel! The comments I made for the last photo kind of apply to this photo. The composition isn't great but again you are trying to snap an animal. I think it is a little fuzzy but I think that it is good you got the light in the squirrel's eye. What I have said so many times before in other peoples photography reviews is that it is so important to get that light in the animals eye because it makes them jump out at you and makes them seem more alive.

So phew, that was a long review lol I hope I helped and wasn't too harsh Keep photographing! and keep posting them!

Hey, Ellie! June here! My apologies for practically forcing you to do this and then not reviewing soon enough. Such is the way of a June. *face/palm*

I love the first one of the black eyed susan. I think it would be even better if you contrasted it, to make the background black, and make the water droplets stand out more.

The next two are okay. I like the one overooking the water, but the treeeees. Poor trees. They seem over exposed by that blank sky, and the colors aren't real. If you camera has it, try shooting in high color mode, Ellie, because the colors are very important. If you don't, a touch of editing-- contrasting and gamma correction would be perfect.


Gotta love that NYC skyline. I never get sick of seeing it.

The next shot of the trees from below isn't very striking. It's a bit of an overrated angle, and, while I love the true colors, the brilliant contrast, the lack of an interesting focal point turns me away.

The Yellow brick rose is okay. The exposure's a bit off, the focus isn't superb, and it's all in focus. Try using a macro mode-- it may be the icon with a little flower-- to focus on the front thing, and not everything in view, okay?

The one of your shoes and the peanut thing are cool. I like the colors in the one with your shoes.

The one of the moon is cool. I know how hard it is to actually be able to capture the moon without a myriad of exposure problems, so kudos. I'd photoshop this to clean up the water spots and provide a sharper contrast.


Pretty tiny flowers! Again, contrasting. Flowers are such common things, that they can easily be taken as uninteresting, but if you have strong contrast or other awesome suporting detail, there'll be no complaints.

The one of the fallen bough is okay. Too har d to see the focus, and it's a bit over exposed, so it's light. Not actually my favorite, but it goes.


chickadeeee. What a pretty litle thing. I'd edit this for contrast, blur out the leaves and stuff in the foreground so that we are actually focused on the chick.

Squirreeeelll. *dies from cuteness* What a poor skinny little fellow. I like this shot; a bit crooked, but cute. Shows squirrels in thier natural habitat. I like.

Onto the review.

1) Perfect. Absolutley stunning.

2) The color is a little neutral. I suggest you make them a little more vivid. Other than that, I like it.

3) Pretty, but could use some color enhacing also.

4) I love this! Everything about it is amazing. And the fact that you took it out of a moving car is quite impressive !

5) Only one thing I can say: I love my country.

6) Since the macro picked up on the veins and not the rose, my initial thought was that the thorns would be the main focus. But as your title suggests, the rose is. If you wanted the thorns as the main focus, I think you should crop the rose out, seeing as it's blurry and out of focus. I assume by the title that the rose was supposed to be the focus though.

7) Love it! My only comment is that you should rotate it 180 degrees.

9) The moon is a tough image to capture. I find it's hard to capture unless you have a heavy duty zoom lens.

10) Adorable! The lighting is a bit dark, so it wouldn't hurt to brighten it up a smidge.

11), 12 & 13) These are all just simple shots that don't really show your creative side. You've proven through your poems and other work that you're extremely creative, but these shots don't do your talent justice.

Over all, good job!
