Ok chapter four is finally up. Sorry it wasn’t up on Monday like I said but unfortunately real life intervened and delayed me. This might happen again some more times before mid December. This was a bit rushed so I don’t know how good it will be sorry

Note: I am going to remake the series so far when I get chance. This will most likely be in the gap between the end of Dragon Marked and the beginning of A Dark Hero. I have improved a lot since starting SF, so hopefully they will be a lot better.

Chapter four: Dule

A fiery dance of oranges reds and yellows burst froth from the muzzle of the P90 along with six bullets. The recoil of the P90 was low so it didn’t buck about much and didn’t pound rather hard against my shoulder compared to most firearms it was barely had an effect on me. Midnight dove to his right behind the desks my bullets hit the window causing several bulls eyes to form but they hadn’t done through the glass was properly bullet-proof to some extent. Midnight responded with three shots from one of his pistols. I ducked and they just missed my head. I gasped several times as adrenalin thundered through my body I hadn’t done this in a long time it felt superb. I couldn’t help but laugh slightly as I crouched behind a desk waited a moment stood up. Midnight was looking over his desk too he ducked as more of my bullets blew the computer screens on the desk to pieces, and knocking them off. Midnight swore as one fell off. I reckoned it had hit him. He stood up and shot a single bullet. Before I could react I was thrown to the ground. I got back up and only then did I fell the searing pain in my left shoulder. I examined the wound it was a perfect round hole blood gushing out I bit my tong to try and ease the pain it didn’t work. I let go of the grip on the P90 and let my left arm go slack. I stood up and fired again. The beautiful thing about the P90 was that it could be fired single handily by humans, and was even easier for dragons. The bullets ripped apart the wooden surface of the desk. Using suppressive fire I charged to the desk jumped onto it and aimed down. Midnight was gone. I swore violently,

“Karanic I’m over here a little to the left” I heard Midnight say. I spun to my left no one was there. All of a sudden Midnight appeared right in my face grabbing my P90 and throwing it upwards. I punched him in the stomach with my left arm he flinched but my shoulder screamed with pain. He retaliated with a powerful kick knocking me off the desk and into the one opposite. I groaned rolled onto my stomach and got up just as three bullets hit were my head had just been. I spun round and emptied the remainder of the clip in Midnights direction, they all missed he had vanished again. I growled in anger.

“Fight like a man!” I shouted he just laughed.

“Honourless cowered!” I replied. Dragons took honour very seriously hopefully that would draw him out.

There was a bang and a muzzle flash from the opposite side of the room. I shouted as another bullet embedded itself into my left shoulder. I hid behind the nearest desk an all too familiar buzzing filled my head.

“Karanic Midnight can turn invisible he will kill you if he stays invisible. Get out of the room you wont be able to use your eyes use your other senses hurry!” Sights voice said echoing about. More bullets blew the wood above my head to splinters. I sat there panting. Forcing my left arm back into life I reloaded the P 90. I closed my eyes and listened there was a click behind me to the left I opened my eyes stood up and fired blindly at were I thought it had come from. Midnight shouted and one of his pistols reappeared in mid air then clatter to the floor.

“Good shot but not good enough!” Midnight shouted as I ducked down another sound came from directly behind me. I stood up again and was about to shoot when something hit my foot. I looked down.

“Flashbang move!” I shouted in my head but my body wasn’t fast enough. It went off blinding and deafening me, a ringing sound deafened me and all I saw was white. I stumbled about then fell to the ground hitting my wounded shoulder and howling from the agony dropping my P90.

“Were is it!” I thought franticly fumbling about. Terror gripped me as I realised I was helpless. This was a fly in a spider’s web situation.

I was pulled to my feet a moment later just as my vision and hearing were coming back. Midnight had me pinned against a wall just off the floor. He had a pistol in his right hand and was holding my with his left. Something warm and thick ran down onto my chest I looked at his hand it had a bullet hole straight through it, and his blood was on me. It must have taking a lost of will power to fight down the pain in his hand.

“Now it ends goodnight Karanic.” Midnight said slowly revelling in the fact I was about to die. He licked his lips evilly like I was a plate of his favourite food as he put the pistol against my head. I closed my eyes.

“Mum…Dad…I’m coming…” I whimpered in my head as a tear rolled down my face. Midnight laughed.

“Aww you going to cry? Want to run crying home to mummy? Well she isn’t here! She is properly asleep somewhere thinking you are all right. Don’t worry I will give her the good news someday.” Midnight laughed. My eyes flashed open an inferno of rage burning behind them. I brought up my right leg and kicked with all my might knocking him to the floor.

“Don’t ever talk bad to my parents!” I screamed as loud as I could. I pulled out the M9 but Midnight just disappeared. It was hard to explain he was there one second gone the next. I swore.

“He is behind you swing your right arm round!” Sight advised me. I swung my arm round ferociously while doing a half turn. It hit something but saw nothing but the wall behind me.

“You have a clear shot at the door get out now!” Sight ordered. I was in the back left corner the door was to my left. I ran straight at it threw it open (It had closed after I had kicked it open) barrelled into the corridor slammed it shut and held it there. I breathed deeply for a moment and then realised my P90 was in there but right now I was just relieved to have something between me and Midnight. I looked behind me Sight was there she stood in a wide stance with her legs spaced apart, and hands in front of her as if she was ready to go into CQC. (Close quarters combat)

“Move” She said calmly using her mouth. I moved to the left of the door. The handle rattled Sight closed her eyes and dipped her head. The handled began to shake violently, then reared up there was a snapping sound as the lock broke, after that it crushed itself inwards before the handle on this side curled round and slid elegantly as a snake into the keyhole. Sight opened her eyes then began panting.

“We have got to get out of here,” She said panting heavily

“No first you tell me what’s going on” I ordered firmly aiming the M9 at her

“Karanic not now please come we must go that won’t hold him for long” sight replied looking up at me

“Ok but…what he said…is it true?” I asked lowering the M9.

“No he is lying I felt it…your anger was immense and…” she began

“And?” I asked curiously

“I felt you think of your parents but I couldn’t push deep enough into your mind to find out why you shielded it somehow…what was it?” she asked softly

“I don’t want to talk about it let’s go,” I said pushing past her a hit of anger finding its way into my voice.

For in everything it is no easy task to find the middle ... anyone can get angry—that is easy—or give or spend money; but to do this to the right person, to the right extent, at the right time, with the right motive, and in the right way, that is not for everyone, nor is it easy; wherefore goodness is both rare and laudable and noble.
