There is a woman in the forest. She’s half hidden in dark corners, her copper skin and black hair blending into the shadows around. She stands still for a moment, looking out of the corner of her eyes at me. Daring me to follow her when she resumes her journey. The fish and game in her hands tell a tale of plenty; she has everything she needs hidden away. Her half-smile seems to hide a secret, another gentle invitation to see her world. She is a person of this land, I know, woven into the life of every tree. Woven into the magic of an untamed forest.

Another woman comes forth, her form swirling with blues and purples. This woman’s skin shimmers with otherworldly light, and as she steps out of the shadows wings become visible. Butterfly wings woven with all colours of the rainbow.

As I stand frozen in shock, they begin to fade into the forest, almost as if they are going to another world. Both of them are looking at me out of the corners of their eyes, inviting me to follow them. They fade deeper and deeper, their forms almost indistinguishable. Before I lose sight of them, they have blended together, a single entity being taken by the forest. I walk away slowly, glancing over my shoulder every few steps. Fear had kept me in place while they vanished, and now, all I was left with was a question.

Did I see a Native, or did I see a fairy?

A/N- 4/5 flash for class. I used a painting of a Native woman as well as a painting titled "I Think I Saw a Fairy" by Josephine Wall. Trigger- Superimpose Edit- I'm actually doubting using this one for class. It was more something I had to write

Really cool! Very nicely told and I see you have a gift to take from a painting and make it into a story. Your story telling is flawless only this had me wincing
She is a person of this land,
. For this kind of story using "person" doesn't seem right to me. Maybe "Creature"?

I love the imagery in this short piece! It achieves the mysterious, magical effect I'm sure you wanted this story to have. I also love how it appeared like the forest played tricks with the narrator's mind. I think that the whole "things are more than what they seem" theme fits the work perfectly.

I really wish you had expanded this writing further, though. So many more ideas can be developed out of it. :) Keep up the good work!

I really liked this. It's pretty much been said already but the description is really good. Very natural and easy to visualize.

This is entirely my own style, so ignore it if you please, but I would switch the last question to some kind of statement. Rhetorical questions don't do anything for me. (Of course, it works as is as well.)

Lovely writing.

seeing this tag and going "oh what's this? :)" then getting slapped in the face with shady's good grammar is the worst thing that's ever happened to me
