I'm new. I found this website through StumbleUpon... it looked pretty interesting, at least more so than some other writing communities I've seen.

I'm a wannabe novelist... I come up with stories but have problems actually writing things down. Being among other writers and reading other stories helps me with that, so I figured a community like this is about what I need right now. Hopefully I can provide some useful feedback as well, but admittedly I have no experience with feedback.

Well then! That's it.

Hi! Welcome to the site! The name's Irish and WELCOME! (Did I say that already?)

So, about the having no experience with feedback, don't worry about it. When I joined back in July I didn't either but over the months I have learned A LOT. There are a ton of people here to help you and they give great advice! My advice, look at some reviews made by admins (the people with green names) or greeters (blue names I believe or is it the other way around? I don't know  ) and see what sort of things they note on, like grammar or spelling mistakes and try to spot those things in a story. Just a suggestion :D

If you have any questions feel free to Personal Message me, I'm always happy to help!

Hope to see you around!

Hello there, Iguana! (can I call you Iggy?) :D
Welcome to YWS!

And don't worry about not being too good at feedback first! The very best thing for you to do is get yourself a mentor! If you PM someone on this thread, they'll look after you for your first month on YWS and I'm sure they'll give you loads of reviewing tips!

Ok, I'm just going to go over the basic rules:

1) Plz no cht spk OR LOTS 'N' LOTS OF CAPS LOCK! This includes proper grammar and capitilization. Well, it is a writing site after all!

2) We have a 3:1 ratio here, which means you need to do 3 reviews for every piece of your own work you post. Bear in mind that your reviews can't just be:
"OMG! That was like, sooooooo awesome! I want to read more! XXX "
Oh no. Reviews have to be at least 3 lines long and it really helps if you give constructive criticism.

3) If your work has sex scenes, excessive violence, the f-word or other adult content, please put "Rated R" in the title. People like to know what they're getting into.

4) Be nice! No swearing outside of your stories and no flaming other members.

5) Have fun!

And now, some questions about yourself! *evil laugh*

What do you like to write? What do you like to read? Whose your favourite author? Watched any good films lately? What music do you listen to? What inspires you to write the most? Are you a cat person or a dog person? D'you love or hate marmite? What is your favourite word? Do you prefer to write by hand or by typing? What can't you live without?

I think you'll fit right in here! It'll be lovely to see you around and feel free to PM me if you ever need anything!

~Amy
