"I should've known," I groaned when Zack disappeared. "We should have knocked him out when we had the chance." I shivered a little. It was a good thing I brought my jacket; I'd be getting very slow and stupid if it got much colder.

And then it started raining.

It didn't take much of that to start me shaking in earnest. "F-f-fee, I th-think I might b-be able to find the w-way back, if we s-start now. But if it g-gets much colder I w-won't be of much use t-t-to anyone."

Fee nodded. She was shivering pretty badly too. I turned around and started scoping out landmarks. "Th-this way."

I woke up in the middle of the night. Something felt wrong, out of place. It took me a momen to realise, there was still no Viper ... and if there was no Viper, there was no Fee! I leapt up out of bed, stopping only to pull on some jeans and my boots. I strolled out into the morning dew, not even stopping to savour the way the light reflected of the damp of my strangely coloured skin. I strolled over to the van, grabbed a medium weight hammer, layed it across the front of my bike, kicked the beast into life and blasted off towards where they had gone without another thought. If Fee and Viper were out there, he wasn't going back to the circus until they were safe and well.

Nick,

I hear the roaring of a motorcycle, and then Mikael comes rushing past. I yell at him, but he, as usual, is oblivious. I try running after him, but I can't leave the camp unguarded. I quickly teleport to the boy's tent. I shake everybody awake. Markus is the first to get up.

"What's goin' on?" he mumbles, yawning.

"We have a situation," I say grimly, "Fee and Viper haven't gotten back yet, and Mikael just went to look for them. Could you guys stand guard while I teleport to get 'em back? Thanks."

Without waiting for a response I flash out of existence.

I woke up first, feeling worse than before. I threw on sweatpants and a T-shirt over my pajamas before stepping outside. I sighed leaning back against a tall oak tree on the outskirts of the camp and just closed my eyes.

"Need some company?" Desmond asked, smiling and sitting down. I couldn't help but smile myself. My mood turned somber again quickly.

"Thanks," I told him. "But I'm just not in a cheery mood today. I just feel like it's all my fault. Like I could've done something to stop everyone from leaving."

Desmond~~

"Like what?"

"Well.. I don't know."

I laughed, "Come on. Lets get some hot chocolate. I don't like it when you have a frown."

"It won't help. I'll still feel the same way."

"I know, but at least I'll be satisfied so come on. Indulge me.. please?"

I sighed but gave in. He grabbed my hand and led me into the kitchen. Soon we were sitting at the table, laughing and sipping hot chocolate.

"Finally, I got you to laugh," he said, winking.

I stopped grinning and put on a fake pout.

"Oh, well if you're still mopey I might as well leave," he teased, pretending to get up and leave.

"No, I don't want you to," I giggled, grabbing his arm and pulling him back.

"If you insist."

Nick,

I flash into existence next to Fee, who is supporting Viper. I immediately grab Fee and Viper, to teleport, since Viper is obviously in bad shape from the cold. When I open my eyes, we are standing next to Desmond and Kat, who are drinking hot chocolate. They were laughing, until they saw us. Des immediately gets up and takes Viper over to the fire, and gives him a blanket and hot chocolate. I turn to Fee.

"I take it you didn't find Kili and Daemyn?"

I hardly registered what happened when Nick appeared out of nowhere and teleported Fee and me to one of the tents. Someone led me towards the fire and draped a blanket over my shoulders, then shoved a mug of hot chocolate into my hand. I was amazed that none of it spilled with how badly I was shaking. "Th-th-th..." I began, but that was about as close as I was going to get to thanking him right now.

I spotted Fee and Viper on the ridge of a hilled and gunned the engine, determined to get to them as soon as possible. Then there was a flash i presumed was Nick and they disappeared.
"Damn it!" Mentally i cursed Nick. How had he known where they were? Or maybe that wasn't how his power worked. Still i had come so close and now Fee was gone. I was never going to get to be the hero she deserved. I turned, preparing to blast back to camp until i realised something. Someone ELSE would be comforting her by now. Still no harm in trying i smirked before screaming back the way i had come.

Viper shook violently, which made me feel awful. I turned to Fee. "Do you think he'll be okay?" I asked.

I saw Viper nod a little between shivers. "I guess so," Fee sighed.

"What happened?"

"We wandered around for hours trying to find them. The only one we found was that new kid, Zack. We talked to him for a while, and then he just disappeared. Then we continued looking until..." she trailed off.

I slammed my fist on the table. "Dammit!" I shouted. "Kili keeps getting away and we can't find her. Where the heck is she going and why is it so hard to stop her?"

Everybody just looked at me. Des eased me back into my chair.

"We'll find her," he reassured me. I just put my head on the table and sobbed.

I put an arm around Kat's shoulders. I look around and see Viper, and feel my heart lurch. He looks worse than I had thought. With a whispered encouragement to Kat, I get up and walk to Viper, sitting down in front of him. "I'm so sorry," I sigh, resting my head on his knee. When he shivers convulsively, I throw another log on the fire in front of him, and walk to the girls tent. There I find Lurie, surrounded by a crying Lizzie and a whispering Zeb. Suddenly I feel overwhelming reality. I let everyone down. Lurie, Daemyn, Viper, Kat, Nick, even Kili. Suddenly aware there are tears streaming down my face, I turn and run, because the only way to feel better is to cry, and just let it all go. I run towards the small hill I had found when we first arrived here, just two days ago, rather than the weeks that it felt like. I hear a roar, and see a flash of broken light through my tear blinded eyes, but don't pay attention to it. It's probably just lightning and thunder. I hear someone shout, and wipe the tears away to see Mikael flying towards me through the air, his bike lying on it's side not three yards away. With an unwelcome crunch, he slams into me, wrapping his arms around me as we slide across the wet grass.

Kili,

I make sure that all of my followers are feeling sufficiently sleepy, and then I sit up on watch. I doubt that anyone will find us, but no harm worrying. Slowly, however, my eyelids begin to sag, and my shoulders slump. Suddenly, I'm in my old room, at the orphanage. Crying, hurting, from the beatings that I've just received. The door creaks open behind me; it's the man, the one who causes the pain. I scream, my eyes fly open, and I shut my mouth. I shudder. I haven't had that nightmare in a long time. Hopefully no one heard me screaming.

I sob in the hands of my brother and sister. I push them away and proceed to walk to the tents again......lonely,numb and in pain.

After about half an hour, I'd warmed up enough to actually be able to think again. I was still shaking badly, but I'd be back to my old self after a good night's rest, as long as I kept warm.

"Wh-wh-where'd F-Fee go?" I asked a bit thickly.

Nick,

I make sure that Viper's still warm, and then I go away to be by myself. Staring morosely at the ground, I walk into something.

"Ouch! Oh, sorry, Markus." I say.

"It's all right," he mutters, turning away.

"Markus," I call after him, "Why don't you come back to the tent, so that we can talk?"

He tries to look stubborn, but I can tell that he is pleased to be asked. I lead him back to the tent, with Viper, Des, and Kat. Markus tries, and fails, to conceal a relieved grin. I feel bad for him, forgotten in this confusion about Kili. I remind myself that he is part of our family, too.
