Obama Applauds YWS in Community Service Speech

In a recent speech to high school students, President Obama mentioned YWS.

Barack Obama wrote:Where you are right now doesn’t have to determine where you’ll end up. No one’s written your destiny for you. Here in America, you write your own destiny. You make your own future.

That’s what young people like you are doing every day, all across America.
Young people like Nathan Caldwell, from Bethesda, Maryland. Nathan didn’t write much when he was a kid. Hardly anyone his age did. It was his English teacher, Mr. Wiggin, who first ignited his passion for writing. It wasn't easy, but he worked hard, and now he is the webmaster of the Young Writers Society, which promotes writing as a past time for young adults. America needs more people like Nathan.

We have been experiencing a record number of new members and member activity, and this explains it. Big Brother is honored that YWS was featured so prominently and we credit our success to all of you. And Nate. Because both of you are so awesome.

It's so wonderful that the president would mention YWS in his speech. The story about Nate is truly touching- I didn't know he was thinking of a full commitment to YWS! We wouldn't get that from any other guy. I hope this story encourages people of all ages to write.

I also was so inspired when he said (right after the YWS part) the bit about never going to give the students of America up, never gonna let us all down. That really struck a chord for me.
