Young Writers Society

Hello there good people of YWS! I am OynxFire, or more commonly referred to as Maya. It is very nice to find a young writers site and I am eager to start here!

Some of my favortie things are: writing, reading, swimming, sarcasm, laughing, and movies. Some of my least favorite things are: jerks, television, Twilight/Stephenie Meyer, and cheesy romance movies/stories. Though I have been known to write some cheesy romance stories. ^_^

Now, I'm not very good with the whole introduction thing, but I will try. (: My name, as I have previously stated, is Maya. I am sixteen and while I would like to say my life revolves around writing, sadly, it does not.

Now here come the part where I describe my sad, sad life to you guys. ^_^ But, I am feeling generous today and I will save you the torture and sum it up in a few sentences.

You see, my parents hate the fact that I want to become a writer, and the only time I can really write is when I'm locked in my room with my laptop (which happens to be more than they know). They want me to become a doctor/ lawyer/ politician. Catch my drift? Yeah, that's just not me.

Anyway, my english teacher is probably my biggest fan. We used to have to write stories in her class (to prepare us for the writing test, even though it was actually a nonfiction writing test ^_^) and she told me that I had real talent.

And there you have it. My not too sad life. Well, I really hope that I will find my own little niche here. It seems like a really helpful and friendly site. Oh, and sorry for the super long post. (:

Wow, you have to write in secret! That stinks, but you're here now, and YWS is such a great community, you will get loads of support.

->2:1 ratio - 2 reviews for every piece of work on here. And in October this'll go up to 3:1.

->Rate your work in the title. If it has the F-word or adult content, please rate it R. That way, we all know what we're getting into!

And peoples names. You might have noticed some different colours floating around the site...

Greeters: They greet newbies on the welcome forum! I guess the name is pretty self explanatory.
Instructors:The best reviewers YWS can throw at you. PM one if you want some work ripped to shreds thoroughly reviewed.
Junior mods and Moderators: They control the site, making sure that everyone is behaving properly. JMs look after a certain forum, Mods look after the whole thing.
Distinguished Members: Those who have retired from being moderators.
Administrators:The almighty! The reason we are up and running!

Anyway, you're already checking out the chatroom so I'm pretty sure you'll find your way round in no time!

Hey OynxFire! Welcome to the most magical place in the world, YWS!

That's really cool that your English teacher supports you. The most mine ever does is argue with me about whether or not a certain story had a cliche plot. It's not cool that you have to write in secret, though. That totally stinks. I know what you mean, though, about your parents not wanting you to be a writer - my parents have this fantasy that I'm going to be a veterinarian and make a ton of money. Psh, not happening. They don't seem to understand that I have no interest in cutting open cats and putting down people's pets for a living.

Anyways, I think Aqua covered most of the rules, so... See you around the site! Feel free to pm me if you have any questions. You'll find that pretty much everyone on this site is friendly and willing to help you.

It's great to see another new face on YWS. Looks like Aqua pretty much filled you in on whats what around here but if you have any questions feel free to PM me. Thanks for sharing a little about yourself, it helps but a little more depth behind someones writing when you know where they're coming from. I wish you the best of luck with your writing career. We need some awesome Teen Authors out there. Too often I'll pick up a book in the bookstore and be disgusted with the quality of the writing and wonder how someone ever got something like this published! Well, grown ups are more influential, and when you have the "degrees" and schooling the publishers believe is good enough for them, even if the stuff is not that good... well you've probably seen the result. Well, have an awesome time at YWS and feel free to PM me.

Hey Maya! I'm sure that everyone's going to support you. We're all writers here; you'll fit in no problem. It's great to have you join us. You'll soon find yourself getting very comfortable around YWS. If you're still feeling somewhat lonely, you can go ahead and check the Groups. There's a button at the top of the page, and hover your mouse over for a bit. Look through the group index, and see if anything appeals to you. We've got groups about everything! And if you see that there's something missing, you can always go and start your own. =)

I've reviewed some of the works and I must say, you all are...well, good! I'm sure my writing will improve because of this. I mean, I've already posted once and the feedback was great. I've got all kinds of new stuff to work on. (:
