Yes, i'm yet another newbie...
(: So i found this site by snooping around wikipedia clicking link after link after flaming link and i'm so glad i found this place and love writing and reading other's people work and critiquing of course...
I enjoy reading and writing and I'm currantly writing a couple of Sci-Fi novels, though knowing me i won't ever finsih them.
I'm wanting to move onto Fantasy but all the good idea's have been taken already and i don't know Fastasy books to even read (for researching purposes of course)...

Hello there Onyx! (May I call you this?) Welcome to the YWS! Yes, this really is a fantastic place where you can do a bunch of interesting, cultural and fun stuff! Sci-fi novels aren't my favourite. Actually, anything that has Sci-fi does not match my tastes but there's lots of other people around here that love this genre.
When you post your story, send me a PM with it's url. I'd love to read it and give you some advice. Only if you want, of course.
But, if you want a more deep review on your work, you should click here. You will go straight to the " Review for Food" thread. Ask there for people to review your work. They will do it in a instant. Check as well our Chat. Only for YWS users, is safe and we have *lots* of fun!

(: I should have mention it is alright to shorten my name down to Onyx as it's quite long.
It's interesting because Sci-fi was never a genre I really liked until I decided to give it ago... Widen my horizons and make a book out of it. I would write about anything really. Horror/Sci-fi/Fantasy... I am not fussy, as long as I am enjoying it.

Maybe I will try to get the book finished and post it up here sometime. But until then...
I'll retreat to my study.

Here are a few ground rules you should follow.

Don't t4lK liiK3 tHiiS or use CAPS, l337 or chtspk. Anywhere. It's annoying and very hard to read.

Give constructive reviews. "It's really good! Keep Writing!" Does not count. You have to give ideas on how they can get better, share your thoughts on the piece.


In addition, there are going to be some colored members that'll you'll see around YWS.

Black Members: Regular Members.
Blue Members: Greeters. They are the ones who greet the new members and are very active in the welcome forum.
Purple Members: Instructors. These are people who are dedicated to helping members improve their work. They give long, thought-out critiques and publish writing tips.
Light Green Members: Junior Moderators. They have powers to lock, move, delete and censor threads, but these ones usually only do one boards.
Regular Green Members: Moderators. These guys have the same powers as junior moderators, but they moderate a whole section of boards.
Red Members: Administrators: They have the power to do pretty much anything. Managable for the general upkeep of the website. There are only three red members, Nate, Firestarter & Meshungenah.

Fantasy!!! *pounces* I love, love, love fantasy! Yeah, so, if you need any books to read (about Fantasy, of course), just send me a PM! I usually know just the book.

There are a few rules that Thorn didn't post. They're pretty easy to remember, so don't worry.

1. 2:1 ratio. That means, for every story/poem that you write, you have to submit two reviews. Reviews are generally three lines long.

2. Rate your work! (Ex. R would be a piece that contains swearing, etc.)

Well, on to the hard questions. Are you ready?

Favorite color? Favorite ice cream flavor? Hobbies besides writing and reading? If you could be any non-living item in the world, what would it be?
