Hi everyone, my name's Maddy and...yeah you know I'm new and I write blah blah...
Just saying hey. This looks like a pretty cool forum, if not a little unnerving if you don't mind me saying. Heh heh.
I'm 15 and I write as much as I can. Mostly novels that I could never conceivably pull off for my knowledge/writing ability but nevermind. I write about stuff I know nothing about which probably isn't a great idea. I live in England but I'm writing a novel set in Mississippi just because Mississippi is...you know, cool.
Anyway I'll look forward to posting some of my short stories I think, and critiqueing. :D :D :D

Hey Maddie! Here are a few ground rules you should follow:

 YWS has a 2:1 Ratio, which means you should critique two pieces before posting a work of your own.

 Do not talk in CAPS, lik3 thiiS, or use chtspk or l337. Its extremely difficult to read and it can be annoying.

 Give constructive reviews. Instead of "oh its good" or "wow man you suck", try to give advice on how they can do better.

You can also check out Nate's FAQ for new users here in the welcome forum.

Hiyas, Maddy! It's wonderful to meet you. ^-^

I suppose you're wondering about the many different members on YWS and what the colored names mean. I'll fill you in a bit about that. ;)

Black - Regular members like you and me
Blue - Greeters! Their job is to meet the new members and greet them. :) You'll probably meet a few.
Purple - Instructors! They're some of the best reviewers on the site and help everyone here improve in their writing.
Green - Moderators! They help keep the forums in check. There are two kinds: light greens are junior moderators and dark greens are full moderators.
Orange - Distinguished Members! They are retired moderators.
Red - Administration! They're all awesome and without them we wouldn't be able to come onto YWS. D: Terrible!

But back to you! I'm guessing you write fiction, but what kind? Mystery? Fantasy? Historical? And it doesn't hurt to write about things you don't know about. In fact, most of the time I don't really know about the things in my novel. ;) I have to do research and depend on what I've seen and heard to write about them.

Do you have a favorite part to writing? Perhaps you like creating the characters or making the plot?
What about a favorite color? A favorite book?

PM me if you need anything!

Smiles!

Hello Maddy! I have a friend named Maddy. Well not have, more like had. I moved away, you see. :( It was like time ago.

Anyway, Welcome to YWS! Yes, YWS may seem a bit unnerving, but don't fret, we're all here to help if there is any help needed. It would be a good idea to check out the FAQ. :) England is cool too! Cooler than Mississippi (I know how to spell it! :D) in my opinion. I've always wanted to visit England!

As for writing about stuff that you don't know about, I think that's perfectly natural, rather I see it as more fun. Gives us writers a chance to explore, research, and learn so much more, and write about more interesting things!

So what kind of stuff do you like to write? Genres you prefer? Favourite writers, apart from me? :P Okay, fine I WISH I was a favourite writer of someone's, but I'm not. There, I confess it. But, that's okay. Still, I'd like to know what authors you like, and what your favourite books are.

I'm only a PM away if you have any questions. See you around!

WELCOME!!

Hi Maddyc!
I'm new to YW as well but I just wanted to say hi from a fellow writer (I write Fantasy Fiction Novels mostly). I hope you like it here, I know I did! It's fun to have a community of young writers just to hang out with and get suggestions on writing. And since you know everyone here is into writing you don't feel shy about sharing your stuff with them. I know it's hard for me to share my writing, especially with people I'm unsure if they appreciate the whole "what it takes to be an author" concept.

You cannot dream yourself into a character; you must hammer and forge yourself into one.

Bonjour mon ami!
I am Incognito and I am an Instuctor on this site. I am an Other Fiction writer, but I would be glad to review any of your works.

It seems they have gotten all the rules in, so whats left for me is a couple tips. Got to love tips.

One thing is that I recommend popping into Writing Tips here and there. That forum is great for writers because people post up some brilliant tips or problems that they might have noticed is a tendency in our writings. It is a great way to learn things that are new, or verify your own knowledge. And if you have something to say, post it! Why not? Any advice is gold on this site. We are all aspiring to be the best we can be. I use that forum a lot for references in my reviews.

Another thing I suggest is to drop by chat. Chat is accessible on the front page, and it a great way to get yourself known and to meet a lot of the regulars on this site. Through out the day, you will notice a lot people pop in there from time to time. Chat games occur, random conversations, anything is plausible in chat. It is hilarious fun.

So I hope to see more of you around. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.
