Today was not meant
to take you away.

We did not know it would come.
We did not see you vanishing
into the mist of eternity

I watched you fly away,
not knowing it was you.
I said "hello" to your mother
and to your father
but not to you.

You were at school,
safely taking a biology test,
pencil in hand, completely unharmed.

I did not think it was you,
mangled and torn by
the car that whisked your life away
from you, from us.

Why did you have to leave?
Why do we dedicate races
and games to you now?
Why are you stolen from us?

These questions will never be answered.
I will never again see your living face.
I simply wish I could've told you
that I love you.

So maybe you will hear this cry,
maybe you will forgive me.
Maybe you will understand.
I love you, dear friend.

To Brook Krogel
Never interrupt your enemy when he's making a mistake... unless it's to remind him that he won't fail... he just won't kill you.

Sad, melancholy.
well written.

I hope it is not true.

Wow, I dont know what to say. This was really well-written, and that's something, coming from me because I rarely like poems.

The first three stanzas were powerful.

The rest you could have deleted and I wouldn't have noticed.

To explain the story behind the poem:
Brook Krogel was a girl a met through swimming last year. She was really sweet and didn't look down on underclassmen like most people. She died following a car accident December 14, 2004. I was having some asthma tests done that day at Bronson, where she was flown following the accident, which explains the following lines:
I watched you fly away,
not knowing it was you.
I said "hello" to your mother
and to your father
but not to you.

I found out it was her when I returned to school. She died during swim practice later that day.
I was reliving the pain of her death a couple days ago when the swim team went to lay flowers on her grave, so I decided to write this for her... it still makes me sad.

This is very sad. Very powerful, though. Wonderful work.
