Hello everyone! I wanted to say a quick hello as I just joined the site! I'm actually a little older than twenty-five, but not by much--only about a year and a half. My current writing experience is/was:
I wrote for my college newspaper back in the day. Mostly movie reviews, which were a lot of fun!
I worked as a writer for an internet marketing agency and also worked freelance writing all sorts of stuff, some boring, some interesting, most of which was SEO/online content. But after a year and a half of that, I'm starting to pull away from it. It's not quite as fulfilling to me as fiction or creative non fiction.
Last year I participated in NaNoWriMo, a.k.a. National Novel Writing Month. I squeaked by at just over the fifty thousand words but am not in the process of totally rewriting the book because I learned that while writing fast to shush the inner editor is a great experience (you should try it if you haven't), the end product is, of course, not very great. Haha!
Last year I also embarked as a student with the Long Ridge Writers Group, and am about 80% through my studies. So far I'm finding it to be positively invaluable. It's given me the courage to start sending out work, though only some of it has been accepted by very minor groups (and not actually in print yet) but I'm learning to look forward to rejection slips almost as much as acceptance letters, as there's always something to be learned.
I'm part of a couple of writing groups; one is a handful of writers from the regional NaNoWriMo group I was in last November, and the other is a local poetry/short fiction group. But one can never participate in too many writing communities, so when a good friend of mine pointed me here, I was eager to join.
If you should feel like critiquing anything I happen to post in the future, feel free to tear it to shreds. I've no problem with people telling me exactly what doesn't work for them. I will likewise strive to provide detailed reviews. I look forward to reading your writings and hopefully, to a long standing friendship.
