Hello everyone! I wanted to say a quick hello as I just joined the site! I'm actually a little older than twenty-five, but not by much--only about a year and a half. My current writing experience is/was:

I wrote for my college newspaper back in the day. Mostly movie reviews, which were a lot of fun!

I worked as a writer for an internet marketing agency and also worked freelance writing all sorts of stuff, some boring, some interesting, most of which was SEO/online content. But after a year and a half of that, I'm starting to pull away from it. It's not quite as fulfilling to me as fiction or creative non fiction.

Last year I participated in NaNoWriMo, a.k.a. National Novel Writing Month. I squeaked by at just over the fifty thousand words but am not in the process of totally rewriting the book because I learned that while writing fast to shush the inner editor is a great experience (you should try it if you haven't), the end product is, of course, not very great. Haha!

Last year I also embarked as a student with the Long Ridge Writers Group, and am about 80% through my studies. So far I'm finding it to be positively invaluable. It's given me the courage to start sending out work, though only some of it has been accepted by very minor groups (and not actually in print yet) but I'm learning to look forward to rejection slips almost as much as acceptance letters, as there's always something to be learned.

I'm part of a couple of writing groups; one is a handful of writers from the regional NaNoWriMo group I was in last November, and the other is a local poetry/short fiction group. But one can never participate in too many writing communities, so when a good friend of mine pointed me here, I was eager to join.

If you should feel like critiquing anything I happen to post in the future, feel free to tear it to shreds. I've no problem with people telling me exactly what doesn't work for them. I will likewise strive to provide detailed reviews. I look forward to reading your writings and hopefully, to a long standing friendship.

Hi, Marion. I'm Thorn, and welcome to the Young Writer's Society. This is really a great place - I've learned so much about writing! It's been a great experience for me, and I'm sure It will be for you, too. I am currently writing a novel, and I'm thirteen years old and going into eight grade. It's okay - I'm sure you must be thinking - Wow, It's a thirteen year old girl (immaturity alert) - No. I try to be very responsible for my age, I like debating about things like politics, abortion and reading classic novels like pride and prejudice, Dracula, etc, etc.
I love writing so much - It's my heart and soul. If you want to learn more about me, come visit my page, drop me a PM if you have any questions :-)

All our dreams can come true — if we have the courage to pursue them.

Hello Marion! Welcome to YWS!

I think a lot of us will benefit from your writing experience. I'm looking forward to reading your posts. So what kind of books do you like to read? Your favourite writers? Tell a bit more about yourself. Personally, I can't get enough of the newbies. There are so many people here at YWS, all with different tastes, styles and experience, who really add to the YWS community and create a very unique environment for writing and friendship. I'm certain you'll have a lot to add to it.

I totally get what you mean the product NaNoWriMo being not so great. My novel is a mess. I'm actually thinking of rewriting it--a very altered and edited version--for the upcoming NaNo challenge.

If you have questions of concerns don't hesitate to PM me, I'd love to be of some help. I also recommend going through the about section of the site if you haven't already.

See you around!

So... Welcome! Again!

What kind of books do you like to read? Any genres you favor? How long have you been writing? Wish you could be a fictional character? Do you prefer clam chowder or beef stew? Bread or pasta? Do you like writing? Pens? Cheese? Llamas? Have you joined in the YWS fun.

If not, you should. It's a rule :P

You cannot dream yourself into a character; you must hammer and forge yourself into one.

The writer, when he is also an artist, is someone who admits what others don't dare reveal.

Bonjour mon ami!
I am Incognito. I see that you hae already been told the rules so I will give you a couple tips that I think you might use.

On this fabulous site of ours, there is a section called Writing Tips. In there you can find a lot of tips written by writers that will most likely help out with your own writing. They can be very helpful and are excellent resources for reviews. I also see that you have a lot of credinetials which is brilliant. I think if you went in there, you could definetely write some of your own, that is for certain.

Another thing is to let loose. Everyone here is nice, and all love to write. Talk to anyone, or PM them if you hve any questions. You may have noticed the coloured names. The Blue guys are the greeters, the ones who specialize in welcoming people onto this site. Then you have the Purple people, like me, who are Instructors. We give indepth reviews to help you guys work to be better writers. There is the Junior Moderators who are the Light green. They moderate a singular forum. There is the Dark Green people who moderate this who fabulous site, and then there is te red. Those guys are the Admins. And ocassionally you will see the orange. Those guys are distinguished Members. So if you ever have any questions, you can PM which ever people you think would be best for the job.

When I sy cut loose, go into chat and have fun, meet new people. Join groups and interact with people you may have not met before, post up works; don't worry about what we think about it, and review. Just be yourself.

If you have any questions or are having trouble finding stuff, just PM me.

A belated welcome to YWS, Marion. ^^ Hopefully you'll find being here as rewarding an experience as I and pretty much everyone else has.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask anyone; we'll all be willing to help a writer in need. Don't be shy to post, or to request reviews if you feel your piece hasn't got enough feedback (that'd be our "Will Review For Food" forum). Join groups, make friends, participate in contests, chat...the sky's the limit on what you can do here.

Above all, be yourself, let loose, and have a great time. :D
Ah, it is an empty movement. That is an empty movement. It is.
