I had this up on the backup site and thought I'd move it over here. It's not the best I've ever written, due to having to pull all seven characters into one short piece of writing... xD But anyway! I do plan on finishing this one this time... xD

I decided to base the story on wolves :D The story will follow a pack and how their wishes all affect each other.

So.... enjoy. Don't be too harsh. ;) I'd love your comments on characters and things too. :)

Seven Wishes

Prologue- The Song of Seven Wishes

Night fell upon the packlands as a young she-wolf crossed the barren landscape. She bounded through the snow, her pink tongue flailing in the wind and catching the snowflakes that dusted the white desert. Every so often, she would disappear into the pearly blanket altogether, only to explode from the ice in a shower of white. When her energy began to waver, she ploughed through with only her cream muzzle protruding.

She slowed as a scent slithered across the coating of ice and towards her nose. She sniffed quietly, ears perking and golden eyes widening in excitement. Poltergeist! She sprang into the air, her small cream paws scrabbling through the snow and towards the older male wolf. He almost blended perfectly into the snow, his grey face and paws being the only thing that gave him away.

Poltergeist’s ears swivelled backwards as he turned his head to see who the intruder was. A flash of auburn fur was the only thing he saw before the she-wolf sprang as him, jaws closing over his ear. She growled in a playful manner and even Poltergeist could not help but give her one of his rarely seen smiles.

“Where have you been, Wren?” Poltergeist said, tussling with the red and cream pup.
“I was looking for the star,” Wren replied, now chewing on Poltergeist’s grey topped tail, looking up onto the shining blanket of stars above.

Poltergeist’s pale face turned towards the luminaries, his grey eyes wandering across the navy sky. He searched for any one that the pup may have found interesting, but to him they all looked the same.
“Which one?” he asked, patiently looking down to the small red wolf.

Wren paused chewing for a moment, pushing herself up with her forepaws. Her eyes searched above for a moment, before she broke into a grin. She raised a paw off the snow, nose pointing to a certain star. “That one. Isn’t it pretty?”

Poltergeist nodded. “Very. But why that one?”

Wren turned back to him, her eyes animated and bright. “Because it’s the brightest. It’s the one that Dusk says you can wish on.”

Poltergeist could not help but smile around this special pup. “Have you made a wish yet?”
Wren suddenly jumped up from the snow, flicking it into Poltergeist’s face. “No! But that’s why I came to find you; we need to find the others, so we can all make a wish!” She tugged on Poltergeist’s already tattered ear and pulled him to his feet. He stopped shortly to paw the snow out of his grey eyes, a short laugh escaping his mouth.

Wren shot off across the snow, scrabbling across it’s surface like a red rocket. Poltergeist bounded his way silently behind her, until he saw Wren tumble to a halt outside the pack dens.

An old grey wolf that rested upon a smooth rock opened one of his yellow eyes, resting his head upon his white paws again when he was satisfied of the identities of the two wolves.

“Welcome back, Poltergeist and Wren,” he said curtly, stretching out his old bones and sitting in a sphinx position. He turned towards Poltergeist as Wren dived into the dens and around the camp, searching for the others. “Everything clear?”

“There doesn’t seem to be any trouble,” Poltergeist said, as a cry of victory sounded from Wren as the Alpha emerged from behind a thicket, his mate Dusk and Wren herself also following.

“Something wrong?” Storm addressed his pack, his tail parallel to the ground in suspicion.

“No, Wren just wanted to tell everyone something,” Poltergeist answered. Storm relaxed and sat next to Dusk, who lay beside a now rather grumpy looking Opherion.

Poltergeist watched in amusement as Wren disappeared again, the sound of the snow crunching against her paws the only thing that told him she was still nearby.

Wren returned again, followed by two females, one with a honey coloured pelt and the other a mixture of greys and whites.

Wren bounced into the middle. “Aspen, you sit here,” she said to the honey coloured wolf, “And Whisper, you sit here,” she said to the other, the pack now forming a rough circle.

“I didn’t know Wren could announce a pack meeting,” Storm said, his lips twitching in a slight smile.
Wren ignored him, turning to the Alpha female with a huge grin. “Dusk, remember the star you said we could wish on, the brightest one?” A kind smile spread Dusk’s dark face.

Wren turned, gazing round her pack mates in excitement. “Well, I saw it today. Look up there!” Seven heads turned to the stars, finding the brightest one in the sky. “Dusk says it gives you seven wishes only. I want everyone to have one,” the young wolf said.

Whisper, who usually spoke very little, said to Wren, “That’s very kind of you, Wren.”

Wren beamed happily. “Make a wish, everyone.” The older wolves chuckled at the pup of the pack, before Storm stood against the dark skies and howled into the night. One by one every wolf howled, each separate melody filling the sky full of song, the song of seven wishes.

Hi,
I really liked this piece! I'm writing a story about wolves, too, cause I really like them.
Anyway, on to the review;

...the only thing he saw before the she-wolf sprang as him...

'before the she-wolf sprang at him'

...why I came to find you; we need to find...

First of all, I wouldn't suggest using 'find' twice in the same sentence. Second, the semicolon should be either a comma or period. I would use a period.

Poltergeist said, as a cry of victory sounded from Wren as the Alpha emerged from behind a thicket, his mate Dusk and Wren herself also following.

Using 'as' twice so close together sounds strange. Also the wording of he sentence is kinda weird. I would change it to something like;
Poltergeist said. A cry of victory sounded from Wren as the Alpha emerged from behind a thicket, followed by his mate Dusk. Wren came in the back of the line, herding them along to where the other wolves were gathered.'
Or something like that, you can mess with it to your liking, or, if you think it best, leave it how it is.

...the sound of the snow crunching against her paws the only thing...

I would describe it more as snow crunching under her paws rather than against. Also you left out a word. There should be 'was' after 'paws'.

Overall I liked it, you should continue writing on it!

Feel free to PM me with any questions :D

P.S. PM me when you post more on it!

Hi Mad_Moo. I'm KJ, and I'm here to give you a quick little comment.

Overall I liked it. There wasn't much to review, really. I didn't spot any major errors or sentences that stuck out to me like a sore thumb. You've got some good writing here.

The only thing I'm missing is a plot. Pretty important. This is the first post of the story, so I'm hoping the crisis will begin soon. Be careful that you don't drag this on too long before beginning. Also, does the star come in to the story later? If so, great. If not, then I don't like it being in the piece. It only adds a sense of there being no purpose.

And one other thing before I skip away: The wolves' dialogue. They're innocent, almost childlike, which is neat - but they still sound like humans. Try to make their words more raw, rudimentry. They're wild animals, and they shouldn't sound like educated animals.

Good luck with your writing.

KJ

Hi, thought i'd step in and see what you were up to.
I know this is only the prologue to your story but I think it could pass as a short-story by itself.
Theres no need for me to be harsh btw, the piece was pretty sound for the most part.
If I were to give any advice though it would be about your descriptions of your characters.
Instead of just saying "cream muzzle" you could say creamy or even cream colored muzzle, just a thought.
Besides that I think this story has promise
