Chapter Two:
Aroland’s Leper
Year Four-Hundred
Twilight loomed over the once azure sky, slowly covering the sky in a yellow black veil. Storm clouds were gathering in the east, over the land of the Kazmad plains. Withomi, Oagle, Cicerin, and Anotin; the heirs of mastery rode on a dusty and high elevated coble roadway. The horrific sight of the burning and sacked fort Knöte had died off in the horizon hours ago. The sight of the main citadel was still etched in prince Anotin’s mind. Every time that the burning and crumbling citadel crossed into his train of thought he cringed and shivered.
Anotin shivered again, he then quickly chained his thought to his surroundings. An endless grassland stretched the horizon of the Aroland River, all the way west to the Aro Lake. He saw no animals except for an occasional field mouse or a solitary blue falcon. The dwarf rode behind Anotin atop his tough skinned Grolmn his ax slung across his back. His head bobbed up and down as he slept, unaware of his surroundings. The Elven prince was riding on his stag beside the prince of Aroland. His blonde hair hung loose on his clean face. His milk white skin seemed to be illuminated. The breeks that the elf wore were the same russet color as the Triddian stag.
Anotin then turned his attention towards the mage. He rode upon a small dragon-like creature. The diamond mage’s grey hair shone in the remaining light of day. His long hair fell from under his blue helm and down to the middle of his back.
The dragon gave a weird shrieking noise that startled the prince of Aroland. The beast released a fireball through its nostrils; Withomi patted the dragon like-beast and said a few words of comfort.
She’s no dragon Anotin turned his head left and then right like a caged animal looking for the origin of the voice.
Are you forgetting that we are men of magic my young apprentice?
Anotin blushed in embarrassment and turned his head at the elf to see if he was watching. The Elven prince looked back and smiled with a wave, then looked back towards the north at the very distant Brimestone Mountains.
Sorry my master, bad experiences with telepathy have left a mark in my memory.
I understand, but fear me not
Of course master. Now what were you talking about
She is not a dragon, Dyókä. She’s an Ormr, meaning dragon in the ancient tongue. I found her locked up in a cage in Trom top, or it’s more like she found me with telepathy. Either way, we are now forever partners.
Did you tame her?
Yes I did
So then…
Withomi’s thought cut Anotin off in mid thought, have you been keeping your training in a good stand.
Yes, of course my master, Anotin lied
You must understand that to fight magic you must you can only use magic. The only weakness to the power is itself. That is why you need to meditate, so you can strengthen your mind.
Of course master. Like you have said to me before Odín and his brothers did not create mages to have fun with their power, we are to stop the evil forces and save our world from the Ragnarök.
I do not teach you for nay reason.
I’m trying master. Every day I practice and try to summon more powerful magic than the last.
Strong you will become when my age.
I already am a competent mage, with the sword I wield
Anotin could hear the mage of diamonds laugh hardily on the path in front of him. Just because you posses a magic infused sword does not make you impervious to energy loss, the energy has to come from someone. Just simply remember my philosophies, and you will become a descent warrior.
Anotin smirked, don’t you remember, I’m the one who saved your life and slayed Sinlon. And I’m the one who did it without your help. I don’t mean to act cocky or a narcissist, but I’m more then just the competent swordsman that you think I am.
Only with my training and knowledge my young apprentice, could you be able to kill dragons. Remember that a student is what his mater taught him. You should also take note that you only but a little child with a cheaply made wooden sword when I first met you.
You were the only father I ever knew. Argoal taught me, but he was never there when I needed the most. I don’t put blame on him either, running a country is hard work; not something I look forward to in my future.
You can’t choose the blood that runs through your veins young Anotin. If so were true, I would’ve done so many years ago. Before so much was bestowed upon me by a war.
Remember that all is not loss, there is always hope. There is always a path through the mountain.
We should make camp, Cicerin said looking at the unavoidable approach of night. Are the rumors true? The prince of Trudent asked observing his surroundings. The rumors of bandits that roam the night lit sky for innocent travelers to sack.
Aye, the prince of Aroland said reigning his silver stallion to a halt. We need someone to take guard watch. Close we be to Islengrad. The king there is ruthless and exiles many men, thus littering the land with thieves and bandits.
And tonight it appears that the stars are not kindling. Withomi said looking at the starless night. Extra guard we must have.
The dwarf stirred on his Grolmn. He wiped drool from his mouth and into his brown beard. He looked curiously at his unpacking companions, Camp? Why camp now? I heard that tese lands are filled wit awful bandits tat have no mercy.
Yee aren’t scared? Cicerin said with a wide smirk.
No! Oagle shouted disgruntled. We dwarves are made to see in ta dark. Never do we dwarves fear bandits, only if teh be our own kin.
Then you’ll be on our first guard duty, Anotin said smiling on how they allured the dwarf into the job.
Fine ten, grunted Oagle the dwarf prince. I be keepin an eye out for yee tonight. Fear not for my watchful eye.
