You may not get it yet, because its the first chapter, so dont judge the plot too harshly. Even i got confused writing it. I have worked with this same plot 3 times, and finally i found what i wanted to do with it. feedback appreciated :!:

*****

In a faraway place, farther than you can ever imagine, is an inescapable world. Kids who have an imagination too big for the people in their home land, are sent to this world. When they enter, they are grown up, they experience things that are unreal, even in your wildest dreams.

“…And they all lived happily ever after.” Her father closed the book and looked down at his daughter. He admired how adorable she was. Thick brown hair down to her shoulders, short cropped bangs that hung perfectly straight¸ and she had the biggest blue eyes he had ever seen. I hope she grows into those, he thought.

She was smiling up at him. “Daddy? Do you think princesses are real?”

Tears came to his eyes. “Of course I do. You are my princess.”

“Daddy! I mean it. I want to be a princess, and I want to ride dragons, and have magic powers!”

He grew sad. His poor little princess will have to learn about life. She won’t have magic powers, and she won’t marry the prince. He didn’t want to be the one to tell her that, though. “Hun, let me tell you something I learned when I was a young boy. When you close your eyes and go to sleep, anything can happen. Those are called dreams, and if you’re good enough, and if you wish hard enough, all your wishes will come true in those dreams. ”

“Okay daddy, I understand. I’ll be the best daughter ever! I’ll learn all about magic in my dreams and maybe I’ll become so powerful I can bring you into them! Then you can see your princess daughter!” He kissed her forehead. He couldn’t help but think next year, when she turns 7, all of this could change.

“ I Love you, Stella.” He shut the light off and closed the door.

Stella looked around her room. The pink wallpaper was barely visible, the only light in the room came from the moon shining through her window. She had fairies hanging above her bed, which was covered in Barbie sheets. She had drawn pictures of castles, and ballrooms and woods, all as equally enchanting as the next¸ and hung them around her room.

When her father read her Cinderella for the first time, she fell in love with fairytale life. All she wanted was a prince to find her and bring her to his castle, and finally, become a princess. Just then, Stella thought about what her dad had said. She closed her eyes, and began to fall asleep. Thus began the start of Stella’s adventures. And this is how they went:

Stella woke up in front of a little cottage. The cottage was centered in a clearing from thick woods. She stood up to find she had a beautiful long red dress on, with yellow sleeves that ended midway down her forearm. She had on black ballet flats that had a cute little bow on the tip of them. Her short hair had grown, and it landed about 3 inches above her hips. Her short cropped bangs had grown, and slightly tilted to her right side. She was beautiful, and all grown up.

Finally after a few minutes of admiring her grown-up state, she went over to the cottage door. She knocked three times. When the door didn’t open and she didn’t hear voices, she decided to go right in. As soon as she swung the door all the way open, she heard a crash, and realized going right in was a terrible choice.

She then decided to crack the door open so she could see what had fallen. She poked her head in to discover she had knocked over, and broken, mini step ladder. Well, mini wasn’t exactly the right word, the ladder as tall as the door knob on the door, but the steps were certainly not for a human.

“Stupid humans, always barging into other peoples’ lives.” Stella looked around, but couldn’t see anything that could have said those words. “Hey! Down here girly!” She looked down to find a little mouse. He was dressed in a black suit, with a black top had and a spectacle hanging out of his pocket.

“Aww! You’re so cute!” She put her hand over her mouth and giggled.

The little mouse was pissed. “Hey! Don’t you dare giggle at me, little girl.”

“Ha-ha. Who are you calling little, Mr. Mouse?” She was serious now.

“So that is what you call this form, eh?”

“Form?” She had become a very curious girl since she had awakened.

“What, did I stutter or something? Yeah, form. I didn’t always look like this, if you know what I mean.”

“No, actually.” She thought for a minute. “No, nope can’t say I do.”

“Well, I’ll tell you my story.” He tried to climb up the chair, but halfway up, fell on his little bottom. “Can you help me with this?” Stella lowered her hand, and he jumped on. She lifted him up to the seat of the chair, and he climbed off. “Now,” He took off his spectacle and started rubbing it on his fur. “Usually when I tell stories, I would make my guests tea, but since I’m trapped in this here house, and you broke my only escape from it,” He pointed at the broken ladder, “I will just have you make the tea.” He winked at her.

When the tea was hot and ready, Stella filled a bowl with it for the mouse, and a tea cup for herself. She sat down and prepared herself for a story. The mouse put his spectacle back on, and took off his hat. He took a slurp of tea, then settled his eyes on her. “You must be very confused why a tiny little mouse is living in a house built for giants, well I’ll tell you. When I first awakened, like you did, I wondered around for days, and finally came across this here house. There was fresh food made and out on the table, and I fell in love. When no one came back and claimed the house, I decided to stay. Still, to this day I’m afraid the previous owner would come back. Too bad for him, eh? Finder’s keepers. Now, how should I begin, how should I begin…” He tapped his tail on the chair. “It was a typical afternoon, a Sunday I think it was. I was being tucked into bed by my parents when-“ He noticed her looking at him confused.

“Wait, do you not know where you are? Am I the first person you have talked to? Oh gosh, what if she doesn’t know she is here, I cannot get on her bad side just because of this little girl. You are very lucky you broke into my house first, do you even know how lucky you are?” She shook her head. She was agitated, and confused, and really had to go to the bathroom. She was thinking so many things at once, but only one thought crossed her mind repetitively since she had awakened. I Hope I never wake up. Little did she know, soon, she would be fighting and risking her life to do exactly that.

Hiya, runswithletters!

I popped into your story because I'm absolutely obsessed with the concept of dreams being an entirely different world. I think it's wonderful, and I've been trying to come up with a plot for such an idea myself. :D Therefore, I was quite happy to read yours.

Enough rambling, onto the review.

runswithletters wrote: In a faraway place, farther than you can ever imagine, is an inescapable world. Kids who have an imagination too big for the people in their home land, are sent to this world. I honestly don't mean to sound blunt, but I would definitely take this paragraph out. You're telling the reader what's going to happen in the story. Don't tell them, show them. ;) Let the events play out, and let the reader figure it out on their own.

He admired how adorable she was. Thick brown hair down to her shoulders, short cropped bangs that hung perfectly straight¸ and she had the biggest blue eyes he had ever seen. I hope she grows into those, he thought.

Nice description. :) I really like it. However, "I hope she grows into those" should be italicized, as it's a direct thought from one of your characters.

Tears came to his eyes. “Of course I do. You are my princess.”

I'd love to hear a little bit more of what the father's thinking here, to fully understand why he's tearing up. ;)

He grew sad. His poor little princess will have to learn about life. She won’t have magic powers, and she won’t marry the prince. He didn’t want to be the one to tell her that, though.

I'd love to get inside his head a bit more here as well. Lead us into his explanation a bit more. Let us feel his hesitation to tell her.

“Okay daddy, I understand. I’ll be the best daughter ever! I’ll learn all about magic in my dreams and maybe I’ll become so powerful I can bring you into them! Then you can see your princess daughter!”

I don't know how your story's going to progress, but this seems a bit too foretelling to me. If what she's explaining isn't going to happen in the rest of your story, it still seems like something odd for a six-year-old to come up with right on the spot. I know she's really imaginative, but it still seems a bit off to me.

He kissed her forehead. He couldn’t help but think next year, when she turns 7, all of this could change.

Why would it all change? If it's just because he's afraid she's going to grow up and grow out of her imagination, give us another peek inside his mind and explain why he thinks that. If it's some kind of family secret or something, and you're just foreshadowing, develop it a little bit more. Throw a little bit of emotion into it. :)

I like the picture you paint of Stella's room here.

Thus began the start of Stella’s adventures. And this is how they went:

Please, please, please take out the sentence in bold. I liked the way your story was going, and I was beginning to get into the flow of it. I really like the way "Thus began the start of Stella's adventures" sounds as a transition. But please don't tell the reader you're about to tell them a story. It's unnecessary. The surrounding information sounds perfect without it.

She poked her head in to discover she had knocked over, and broken, mini step ladder.

You might mean, "a" mini step ladder.

Well, mini wasn’t exactly the right word, the ladder as tall as the door knob on the door, but the steps were certainly not for a human.

This sentence is a bit awkward. I'd consider splitting it into two sentences, between right word and the ladder.

He was dressed in a black suit, with a black top had and a spectacle hanging out of his pocket.

Black top hat?

The little mouse was pissed. “Hey! Don’t you dare giggle at me, little girl.”

Okay, this really threw me off. I loved the way you're writing this kind of like a fairy tale. It sounds quite a bit like a children's story, which is really cool, seeing as your main character is a child... and then you threw in the word pissed. It kind of messed up the aura of it all. ;)

“Well, I’ll tell you my story.”

He just seemed quite annoyed with Stella. What makes him want to tell her his story? Give us a little insight. :)

“I will just have you make the tea.” He winked at her.

How does she feel about being told by this little mouse to make the tea? You skip a little bit here, to where the tea is already made. Fill in a little bit of the dead space with Stella's thoughts.

When the tea was hot and ready, Stella filled a bowl with it for the mouse, and a tea cup for herself.

Why a bowl for the mouse? I'm guessing he can't pick up the tea cup by himself, but have her think of that.

When I first awakened, like you did, I wondered around for days, and finally came across this here house.

Wandered around for days.

There was fresh food made and out on the table, and I fell in love.

Very mouse-like thought. I like it. :)

Still, to this day I’m afraid the previous owner would come back.

It would probably be "will come back," since the mouse is speaking in present tense. He's afraid that the previous owner is going to come back one day.

Oh gosh, what if she doesn’t know she is here, I cannot get on her bad side just because of this little girl.

I'd note somewhere around this that he's speaking to himself now. It confused me a little bit, because I thought he was still speaking directly to her.

She was agitated, and confused, and really had to go to the bathroom.

:D Very nice job with the bathroom bit. It's a very clear reminder that even though Stella's "all grown up" in this world, she's still a child, and thinks childish things.

I Hope I never wake up.

Another direct thought. It should be italicized.

Little did she know, soon, she would be fighting and risking her life to do exactly that.

Quick question. Does your next chapter start right where this left off, or is it a while after this? If it's a little while later, your final sentence is a good piece of foreshadowing, but if it follows immediately, that sentence just interrupts the storyline.

A few general comments:

 Characters
I'd like to see a little bit more depth in your characters, a little bit more insight into their personalities. Especially Stella, since she is, after all, your main character. I'd like to see a little bit more of her childish wonder, maybe get inside her head a little bit more as she wonders what's going on in this dream world (since she apparently knows it's a dream world). I'd add a bit more to the father as well, since he's a large part of the beginning. I will complement you on the mouse, however. I was really starting to get a feel for him. ;)

 Plot
The plot was quite creative and nicely crafted. I've loved this concept for a long time now, and I'm really interested in your perception of it. It's somewhat obvious that the mouse was once human, and that really intrigues me. I'd love to know what happened to him, and what's really going on in this world. It reminds me a bit of a Narnia-ish type dilemma, but completely not in a bad way.

 Pacing
Just a small issue. It did seem to me like you rushed in a couple of places, but that should work itself out as you add more details to your plot and especially your characters.

Nice story. :) Please PM me if you decide to post more. I'd love to read it.

I really like the direction you're going with this so far. It really does have that Alice in Wonderland vibe to it. I like your descriptions and all the little details. I can't wait to see what you do with it :)
(I would say more, but I think the review above mine really covers it haha)
