Abandoned Places You'll Never See

More pictures of my home town...in all its run-down, abandoned, kinda ugly, glory! Please, serious critiques are being begged for! Not to mention, a review for a review makes the world go round.

I adore this picture so much. After I went in and tweeked the contrast a little, it was just too perfect.


I want this van, bus, thingy sooo badly. It looks terrible, as you can tell, but it would make a great party vehicle. I mean, that thing could fit like, fifteen people if you tried real hard.


This is probably my least favorite. It seemed rather blurry and no matter how much editing I did on it, nothing seemed to help it.


These next few all really go together, but I liked the way the all turned out.








This one just blew my mind when I took it. And this scene in real life is ten times better. But the contrast of colors just really caught me off guard.


And lastly, one lame flower picture.

This pictures are really interesting.

In the photos...it gives a sense of both creepiness and interest. ANd some pictures can be misleading like the well.

at first it was a river but on closer inspection it was a road. I also like also teh first picture with the bench. Despite it being wear down, the background makes it pretty as well as the van and the well...


other than that, the rest are good especcilay the last one of the dead flowers...its a good closeup

I would have loved you live there. I love the one with the well. The road along side of the green and the brick well all fits in really good

I also like our picture of the flower. It has these certain elements in it that make it stand out so well.

My fave was picture #5. The door was just beautiful!
Also I thought the dim lighting went perfect with the whole abandoned theme.

The only thing was that the pictures where a little blurry. Id try a higher resolution, unless that's what you where going for.

Overall, I really liked them. Keep posting!

#1: I like this photo, it seems aged, like it was taken about 20 years ago. The white stand out nicely against the ground. I do think it would be a little better if the tree was not there.

#2: I think this one is my favorite. I love the rusty colors of the van, and the photo is well composed. I don't really like the phone wires against the sky, though, and the whole picture seems just a little too dark.

#3: You said this one was your least favorite, and I think I'll side with you. It is grainy (too little light, perhaps?) And the well isn't standing out because there are dark trees behind it. If only the sky were behind it, it would stand out better.

#4: I thought the composition was a little odd here.

#5: This one is better, but I think if you moved that other door that is to the right of the white door, and stood back so you could get the window and the white door, it would be a little more pleasing to the eye. The paint texture here is fabulous, by the way.

#6: I feel the doors are too dusty here and blend in with the wall. Did you use a flash here? I usually never use the flash on my camera because it washes the subject out and gets rid of nice shadows.

#7: Again, a bit too dusty for me and the flash is a little harsh.

#8: The scene here is a little busy, and the branches in the foreground are distracting. I also wouldn't use a flash (maybe try a longer exposure time.) I do like the color of that drum, though.

#9: This one made me giggle, because it looks like the flower tripped and fell on its face.

And Vonika, I would love to take some of your advice into consideration, go back, and do it again, but I can't. Most of these places are actually private property and I shouldn't have been there to begin with. So moving things and dusting them are not an option.

But I do have some of my local park that I want to get posted soon. And I really hope you'll review them.

Okay! So, the first three photos are good-- we'll come back to those with criticism.

I don't really like 4 - the end. They're not extremely artsy, and while they don't have to be, they lack a focal point for your audience. So, they're alright-- don't have much to say on that one.

Number one >> Nice shot-- I can see how you like this one. In photography, there's the rule of lines, which basically implies that your line makes the picture. So, when taking a picture, you usually want to stand at a point where our eyes can follow the lines to a focal point.

Here, you have two main lines for us to follow: The street in the back, and the couch. Bench. Couch. Seat. Whatever you want to call it. XD

In addition, you have a bit of noise, too (grainy-ness on the photo) and the colors are a little dark. So! While I like this photo, it has its downsides. It's okay.


Number two>> Same thing with the lines again, though there really isn't much you could do about this, haha. The powerlines above are leading our eyes away, while the van is leading them horizontally. Luckily, the vivid color of the van against the dark background draws our eyes to accept that as a focal point.


Number three>> Now, here's what I'm talking about! Perfect touch with the lines this time, no confusion there. I love this shot, Lily. It's perfect; the well, street, and field across give this an abandoned, old feel. It's perfect, save for the slight blur and noise.


Keep practicing, Lily-- you have the potential to be really good.

These pictures are great! The thing I love about photographers is that we see things differently, we can take a bunch of junk and by taking a picture with the right angle and the right flash, we can turn it into a piece of art. So you've definitely done a good job. You obviously saw some great detail in this junk, and have done a wonderful job in sharing it with us and making us see it as well. So you get a thumbs up from me.

I love how you turn ordinary things into cool pictures like this. I respect someone who can do that. I'm only starting out in photography at the moment, so I can't exactly do that very well. I also like how you looked for art just around the place where you live. Things like contrasting colours and such. Some of the pictures lack a focus point, however. I know enough to look out for that. Also, I love the well picture. Great job offsetting the focal point so that it looks more interesting.

These pictures were posted over a year ago. o.0 You should try not to dig down and bring up new topics, because sometimes the author/creator doesn't like that as well as they probably don't need help on it anymore or they aren't even on that project now, lol.

These are pretty nice.. I think that perhaps you could play with the exposition and brightness and bit, perhaps the color, and they could even be better.
I too love going into random abandoned places and taking photographs.. my favorite thing, aesthetically, are barns that are falling apart. There's such peace in their broken down-ness, they disarray. Gorgeous.

Like I said, I think that they might be a bit more interesting with some more play in their settings, but nice job as they are.
