I am not tying to start a fight. By normal I meant typical kidds who do not care about books, art or writing anyway. Most kidds I know dont. Chinese japanese to me there is not a big diffrence. can cartoons be concidered art?

lol yeah cartoons can be considered art too...is that so hard to believe? i mean art is drwaing something beautiful to you and other stuff....someone somewhere has to draw the cartoon before its on tv....yea

Anime is JAPANESE, zel. The chinese have their own brand of cartoons.

Do I think anime is scary?

Not sure if it's been discussed already but anime has a vast genre, if that is the right word. Though, I personally don't think anime is creepy, scary or whatever. It can be very bloody, if that's what the original poster meant.

I'm really not into anime, per say but have a lot of respect for the artists' who can wield such characters. Not sure if this will help the whole 'anime is scary' debate, but I enjoy the conflicts, where a char has this 'inner' demon and on the flip side, is an accomplished warrior/fighter. Soo...the anime I watch (not many, mind you) is often action-packed with loads of fighting scenes, and ya...lots of gore. If someone has a weak stomach, then yes, I can see where a person would automatically throw stereotypes on certain genres', like horror. My favorites' are Vampire Hunter D and Little Ninjai; horror/adventure.

But to the original poster-
You should give it a chance really. There is so many, litterally, hundreds of different genres of anime: horror, adventure, comedy ect. Surely, you will find something you like and before you know it, you're hooked. Just don't look at one thing you may see on T.V. that was edited (original Jap. versions are best) and assume all anime is crap. It's far from it.

The point is this: I know exactly why anime scares you, and I agree. But this isn't the case with every anime. Therefore, it's not anime that's scary to you, it's most of the anime shows that are popular to teens (especially males ages 16-25 probably) in America.

I would say American and European cartoons are creepier.

And I will agree. Especially the 'children's' cartoons that are around now. Spongebob Squarepants is the epitome of all evil.

^^^ I agree! It really isn't a kids show. And people complain about how american kids are becoming lazy and stupid.

I'm not suposed to read manga, which is in esence anime, because my parents think comics are infantile. Not because they're anime. They're just a much more sophistcacated version of Archie or whatever he's called.

My project is to draw anime. I so far can't, but I will.. Oh yes, I will.

Some manga is extrememly sophisticated. Fushigi Yuugi, Imadoki, X, Please Save My Earth, Clover, Bishoujou Senshi Sailor Moon, Shoujou Kakumei Utena....all brilliant. Interesting storylines, good morals, amazing artwork, beautiful bishounen--what's not to like?

These programs (films, what ever) are really good. Older people can read it or watch it without feeling silly or as stupid as they would be, reading or watching something like 'Fairly Odd Parents' or 'Spongbob Squarepants'. Anime has better plots and such.

Anime rawks. If it wasn't for 'Sailor Moon' and 'Dragon Ball Z' I would of probably never liked it. By reading these comments I would probably think that Anime is some sort of perverted type of style. It is not all that...

I personally love Spongebob Squarepants and Fairly OddParents, but that's because I like laughing at stupid stuff, which those definitely contain. Spongebob isn't evil, just stupid.
