Yay! You lucky dog, you get my 500th post! Woohoo! Because this is so special, I'll try to make this as lengthy as possible. Oh, and thanks for numbering the photos. Very helpful. And just so you know, I tend to end up exhausted and cranky near the ends of these long photo reviews, so my comments will get shorter and ruder. Not my fault!



1.)

Rule of thirds: Well... it was followed, but with telephone poles I'd generally try to put the cross part in the center, or to the side. Maybe that's just me.

What I like: The pink at the bottom! It's so pretty! I'm not a pink girl, even in skies, but that is really pretty against/behind the gray clouds.

What I don't like: Allllll the wires. It kinda makes our focus scan the picture, which is the last thing you want to do.


2.)

Rule of thirds: Very well done. The fire hydrant is ever so slightly off center, but that's okay. You don't even notice it until you stare and stare and stare at it.

What I like: It's... red. Rarely have I seen a fire hydrant that's red. In my neighborhood, we have blue an gray ones, and yellow gray ones, and non-existent ones, but not... red. Oh, and I like the weed growing beside it that looks like a tree.

What I don't like: There's so. Much. Clover. So much. Two dozen buds scattered around, sure. Three dozen, be my guest. Fifty million? I don't think so. And the streak of road or sidewalk at the top is bugging me big time. I see you couldn't have gotten the whole hydrant without it, but... blech.


3.)

Rule of thirds: I have no earthly idea how the rule of thirds applies to this. I see a big object slightly off center in a good way. There you go.

What I like: Peeling paint. Blue flowers. Ivy. The house. Grass. It's a giant wheel for crying out loud! It's great!

What I don't like: It's just... there. It's all... blah. I see a big fat wheel and flora. Despite it being my favorite, it's not catching my eye. And that's why this is so short.


4.)

Rule of thirds: Who cares, whatever it is, it works for this picture. I dunno why, this picture just works.

What I like: It's all dark out, and the flowers are all dark colored, and the grass is all dark, but you can still see the colors! And the white wall behind them... lucky. It's solid brick around here. Bake in a brick oven all day or the HOA will be all over you for your walls not being right... Ahem. Sorry. I blabber.

What I don't like: That glowing section in the middle (bad camera. Go sit in the corner). It takes away from the picture once yo notice it. And that tiny petal on the bottom, closer to the right. See it? The focus is on the two flowers in the centerish. Everything else is background, and having another flower in the background is distracting.


5.)

Rule of thirds: A-okay here.

What I like: Uhhhh... the angle. Yeah, I like the angle.

What I don't like: It's too dark! Officially. Too. Dark. I can't tell one from the other, and don't ask me what I'm talking about, it's so dark I don't even know! Reason for this being so short, it's too dark! *continues ranting for another half hour*


6.)

Rule of thirds: Nice. Maybe I should re-name this section proportions. Everything's fine.

What I like: The dark. It makes this overly happy little white lily more sombre. For some reason or another, that's a good thing.

What I don't like: The hopper bites in the petals stink, and if I tilt my screen a bit, is that a dead leaf I see? Not pretty.


7.)

Proportions: I should just cut this part out, it only really needed mentioning in the first few. Good job, once again.

What I like: Pretty colors... Pretty... I like the grass, and the second flower on the side, and the, erm, what're they called... Stamens and the other one, the long one with no fuzzy thing... Dang, I hate biology. But yeah, the cool colors in the grass next to the lightish pink are really good. Lilies = Beautiful.

What I don't like: There's that one little slash in the petal. That's it. An imperfection of nature is the only thing I see wrong with this.


8.)

Yawn. Not really eye catching, I have naught but this to say about it.


9.)

Rule of thirds: Nuh-uh. Something's off. I think it's the bug. All wrong.

What I like: The bug. The leaf that looks like a band of leaf-cutting ants just overtook it. Uhh...

What I don't like: The noise! My eyes are going deaf with all the noise! I can't see the picture!


10.)

That sure as heck looks like a worm poop pile... Maybe it's just dirt and I'm seeing things. But it really looks like earthworm poop. Oh well, anyways, I don't get it. The point of this picture, I don't get it.


11.)

What I like: I like the simplicity of it, it's just a yellow flower,

What I don't like: It's so blurry, I can hardly see it!

What I like: All the ivy crawling up the trees is really beautiful. The sky is such a great color! I've never seen the color of my room's walls outside my room... That is really cool, in each sense. And they seem like such tall trees, compared to our little seven foot evergreens here in suburbia. *sigh* I'm jealous.

What I don't like: Just one question. Why? Why take a picture of trees? Zoom in on the ivy, show my a flower, a bird, anything! This bores me a bit.


13.)

What I like: I love the cobwebs, and the fading wood. It makes it seem so old, which it probably is. It makes me think of some disaster a long time ago, and someone was rushed into leaving their home and so left their clothespin on the wire...

What I don't like: Noise, again. I really takes away from the picture. Otherwise? I love it.


14.)

What I like: I keep thinking, why is this kid looking at me? Why is this kid looking at me? It's at that exact angle of a three year old looking up at you. Awww... And, it's blue! Credit for the flower being blue! I love blue. This is just such a cool angle, I really like this picture.

What I don't like: There are things on the side of the stem it looks like. I don't know, but it feels that way.



15.)

What I like: Blue....

What I don't like: The background. I don't really like how you can tell that it's a porch. It really takes away from the beauty for me.

OVERALL:

You're really good! Keep practicing! May I ask what kind of camera you have? If you're really serious about photography, I might suggest getting a fancier camera. Then you could zoom in more, maybe even macro, and there wouldn't be all that annoying noise. A good semi-pro would do the trick. Some can go as cheap as 200$. Really worth it.

Noise is the blurry junk, especially obvious in numbers 11 and 16. It's the stuff that looks like TV snow. Lemme see if I have a picture that shows... Hm, no, I must've deleated 'em all. My camera stinks, so I borrow my dad's. Here, wikipedia has some good examples.

Right, so, Noise in a photo is that grainy look that some of your photos have. This normally is the result a photo taken in low light. ^_^

First! I like the clarity of this, and the clouds, but it would be nice if we could see more of the pole.

Fire hydrant! It is cool, I love the vivid colors, but it's right in the center, and it's kind of just not exciting.

I like the wagon wheel, but again, it's kind of dead in the center of the photo.

I love the photo of the lilies, though it's dark and stuff.

And the closeup, though it's dark and a bit fuzzy.

I like the white flowers in the dark-- gives a nice touch to this photo, though it would be cool to have more vibrance in the photo.

I like the next one of the lily, but it's a bit noisy.

I like the next closeup of the lily, too. Really pretty.

Awww! cute buggy! *wants*

In the one with the lily leaves and dirt, it's a bit tough to figure out what's going on.

Pretty yellow flower! Noisy, a bit, but nice.


The shot of the trees is pretty boring. Not much focus there.

I love the clothespin shot, though it's pretty noisy as well.

The blue flowers are awesome, but noisy. However, it adds a nice softness, which is awesome.

And the water spout/gutter thing! I like the shot, but it's noisy.

But...I wanted to focus on one thing and let the rest blur in the back-ground. I'm sure there's a term for it. (I dunno')

Yes! I think you mean bokeh shot, no? Or, ore commonly known as Macro shot. But, yeah, I understand. ^_^

Also, you said you used iso mode on these. Iso is basically just a setting. The higher the iso setting, the faster the shutter speed. For instance, if you have ISO 1/500, that means it will capture the photo in 1/500th of a second! So, the faster it is, the less likely you are to have blur, because it captures so fast, but the lower it is, the brighter the photo, and the more prone to noise the photo is, because the lens is open, and if you or your subject moves, it will capture all of the movement resulting in a blur.

If that made any sense? Basically, the iso settings are the reason for the noise; the bokeh shooting has nothing to do with it, dear.
