I think most writers have felt this way at least once before. I know that I have and it really is very frustrating. To overcome it, I usually read, listen to music, watch TV, or watch movies to maybe spark some creativity. Sometimes I just write short little stories, too. Don't worry, eventually it goes away. :)

I felt this way about my novel for a long time.

What I usually do it change stories I'm working on. Usually when one story sounds forced it's because I have an idea for another story. What ends up happening is I change projects for a little bit.

If that doesn't work, I try coming up with a short story. Those usually work and have a quick satisfaction about them. You've not only written something, you've finished it!

If all-else fails, just take a break from writing. Could be a day-long break, could be a month-long break. But not writing can help you in the long run.

Hope this helps!

This happened to me with my novel, so I just took a break from it. However, if you can't seem to write anything, I'd advise that you just do some experimental writing. Start with short pieces, like poems or short stories, which will help you come up with ideas for other writing. When I have no inclination to write, what I do is find a contest here on YWS that interests me, and try to write a piece for that. That way, I have guidelines, a goal, and a deadline, so I can actually get some writing done. And, after I start writing, I find that I want to write more, because I have new ideas. If all else fails, just like Rosey Unicorn and Mhmmcolleen said, just wait it out.

All the time xD But when you're writing a novel, you have to remember why you're writing it.

When people say that I can't do it, or criticize me, I like the take it as a challenge and motivate myself to write.

My friend Justine and I always make fun of each other and fight for grades xD But it's all good fun. I'm lucky enough to have friends that say "Hey Victoria! Where the heck is your novel? Did you publish it yet because I want to read it!" And they yell at me, angrily. xD What great friends.

You have to think about what you want to do with your novel and what you it will accomplish once it's done. Don't force yourself to write, convince yourself, motivate yourself.

You cannot dream yourself into a character; you must hammer and forge yourself into one.

The writer, when he is also an artist, is someone who admits what others don't dare reveal.

Lots of writers feel the way. It's a writer's equivolent of hitting The Wall (an athelete's term meaning the point in the sport where you feel completely hopless and unable to go on).

How do you beat it? well, by continuing to write! It doesn't even have to be part of one of your stories; just sit down and write. record the dream you had last night, a funny moment with your brother, rewrite the ending to a certain book...anything.
Where are we going?

http://www.bonnieneubauer.com/writebrain.shtml

I bought this book called The write brain workbook a few days ago. I've been in a slump for at least a year now, and to me all hope was lost. But the other day I did my first exercise and I know have 5 pages of a random story :D

Take a look at the website above and see for yourself at how the book looks inside and who knows you might find inspiration waiting for you.

Hope it helps,
