Twilight Cliches

the last book was indeed a total uproar. as someone has said, it was too perfect... it kind of put me off.

like it would have been better if something "not happy" happened. then the story would have improved a lot. quite predictable also.

i don't know about the using deep words thing.. i mean, it was directed for youngsters, right?
i do agree that the words and sentences are so simple and.... usually heard... but i think the book was for the young kids...

except for the part where they got married and.... then.... you know. Euck. that truly put me off..

yeah and the pregnant thing? and the imprinting on Nessie of Jacob.. sheesh...
i hate book four. actually i only liked the first book.

Bella self essteem goes down the drain when she meets edward, yet they are meant to be perfect together

None of the vampires are black, or gay.
Yeah, yeah, I guess the Amazons are ethnically different, but show me the African Americans!
Show me the gays! Honestly, unless you count Anne Rice's Interview with a Vampire, there seems to be no such thing as a gay vampire. And Twilight dutifully follows this.

The likable characters aren't given much screen time (my term for 'appearing for more than a few scenes'). Carlisle and Jasper, for example, are butted out by the two lovers.

Bella has dreams that are obviously prophetic, which just... Eh. She dreams, for example, that Jacob turns into a russet brown wolf. Next thing you know, Jacob's a werewolf who turns into a russet brown wolf. Countless other examples.

The C-Sec is portrayed as horrifying and scary, because it seems to be so common for writers like Stephanie Meyer to believe that a C-Sec is terrible; Eurgh, they cut into a pregnant woman! Eurgh! No! For one thing, I do believe that real C-Secs are actually have anesthesia handy and the blood is minimal.

All bad characters are never described as breathtaking. Honestly, in Book 1, Laurent is the only one described anywhere near 'beautiful'. Countless other examples in later books.

Oh yeah, and the cliche that people think about Twilight; Stephanie Meyer is original for writing vampires good. She's not; Darren Shan, for example, has written good vampires.

I agree with Kamas. I can't pick up a currrent vampire novel because I'm afraid of intaking dangerous levels of suckitude... that stuff can kill.

jessica and her irrantional dislike for bella-- everything about the teenagers at bellas school, actually
the best-friend character (jacob)
the over protective dad
her being in a constant state of groundation (seems to be a big thing with misunderstood teens in YA novels)

not even going to talk about the vampire-angst cliches.
lol. And about bella swan...
my favorite part in the first book is when she says something to the effect of "Edward, Alice, Jasper? Such Victorian names."
has she heard her name recently? Isabella Swan?
