It started out as an attempt to draw the myth of Hyacinthus and Apollo, but I couldn't make them look different enough, so I'm just settling for making a doodle of a character from my current work in progress. I haven't decided on a name for him yet, and he isn't supposed to have a mouth or eyes or ears, just a nose. He's going to be pretty important, and knowing how my stories go, he's probably going to be very... changed by the time he returns from his journey, if he returns at all. I'm still a little iffy about his ending, so... yeah. This is my first time experimenting with this style of drawing.

There once was a cat.
He wasn’t particularly fat.
Fuzzy was his favorite mat.
And really, that was that.

Oh, but did you really think so?
Keep reading, it’s just the start of the show!
And as for how far this tale will go…
Well, even the cat doesn’t know.

Nice picture, it's impressive, I could never do so well by means of drawing! I fail epically at drawing... :P

Those feathers are astounding, I just love the look.

There is a lot of white space still, I'd fill that in ;P
Also, color wouldn't hurt the least bit, yo. :D

His face, I think, is hilarious and cute with eyes or a mouth...but the nose should be higher up on his face, it looks like a mouth that far down.

I love how you captured the wrinkling of his clothes, that's epic! :D

What's that big thing attached to his back? A flying carpet? A cape? A blanket? :?

Anyways, I liked it a lot :P

If you need help or have questions, feel free to PM me, yo. :D

Ok I am gonna critic this because that is what I am here for haha.

First of all I do sorta like this, it has a new look to it.

Ok now to begin the critic, I like how you captured his clothes, but his legs seem really stiff.

I don't really see any eyes or anything just a little mouth.

I like the thing conected to his back, but the way it is connected is a little weird.

His hands look sorta like a fish tail (not to be mean or anything)

Ok, so I do like this it has potensial, but it needs a little work.

Keep in mind that I critic because I want you to improve not to be mean.

Keep Drawing

I love this picture!!!!! :O
The way you did the feather's is AMAZING!!!! and you did really well with the folds in the clothes! I'm also impressed by the detail you added in the wings (right?)
This is REALLY good, I can see you being a great artist. Keep drawing <33

Hey there Vyper!
Since you reviewed my drawing, I just thought that I would review yours. ;3
Let us begin!

Image

Point One:
My first point has to do with the hands. Hands certainly are the trickiest thing to draw because they have the oddest proportions and ridges. With your drawing, I think you were trying to go for the simple kind of thing, and I have no idea how big this drawing was originally, but I believe that you could add more detail into the hands to make them look less like fish tails.

You could change it so that it could be minorly grasping the ground, and you could draw the fingers, or you can stay with the the thumb index finger split and just add more ridges. Detail makes everything great.

Another thing to remember with hands that may not be subsequent to this actual piece of artwork, but the size of the hand is actually supposed to be the size of the face. Most people actually draw the hands to small like in this case. But also in this case, the head is drawn fairly big and disproportionate so I don't think you have to worry about that one.

Point Two:
Point two isn't as much a critique as a personal comment.

I love how you did the feathers certainly. Using multiple thin lines gives the appearance of actual lightness and softness. The only thing I caution you about doing that though is that you have to draw the lines the right shade or else you either won't be able to see it or you will draw them to dark and they will look absolutely horrible. You did a good job on them this time.

But the main thing I want to comment on is about the contraption sticking out of his back with the feathers. From what I see, that contraption is made out of some sort of canvas material and that is about it. So my question is where did the feathers come from? It was an odd question that came to mind as I examined your drawing. Indeed it is something that confuses me.

Point Three:
Point three is about the contraption on the back.

You can't actually critique that in context because I have seen nothing like that and I do indeed like it. But I was also trying to decipher what it was?

My suspicion was that it was a wing and he could probably fly, but then another thought came to me, you can't fly with only one wing so he would need another. I began to consider if you had another one, and yet there is no evidence of it. I would suggest drawing the other wing somewhere above it a bit smaller to give it the illusion of perception. It would make the contraption make a bit more sense. Of course that is if it wasn't supposed to have only wing.

If it was supposed to be only one wing, I think I would add a bit more shading with it and move it about a bit so that it give the illusion that it is 3-D and it the only thing there. While I looked at it, I kept on thinking that there was another behind it. If it is only one, I think you should move it slightly so that it can be clearly seen that it is indeed one.

Point Four:
I like how you have done the face and I understand that it isn't supposed to have eyes or a mouth. One thing is first though is that you should raise the nose a little bit higher so that someone doesn't mistake it for a mouth.

Secondly was that when I first saw it and never read your note, I just though you forgot to draw the eyes one. I don't necessarily always draw the eyes, I tend to cover them with hair when the character is in motion, but anyways I soon realized what you were trying to do.

Might I recommend adding small anmounts of shading to the faze, maybe to dignify the bone structure where the eyes were suppoed to be or the jaw behind closed skin. That way, it adds more dimension and makes things more clear from first sight.

Point Five:
Last but not least, I am going to comment on your actual positioning.

What is most surprising is how well you actually positioned the legs. You made it seem almost natural. The only things I want to comment on is the width of the legs, the length, and the detail in the feet. Your width of the legs is incredibly tiny. Again this was only a doodle and a cartoon one, but for future refrence, beef them up. ;3

The length of you legs would actually be longer in realism, a long with your torso and your head wouldn't be as big. You don't have to change it, but I would just like to remind you that the legs would indeed be longer.

Last but not least the feet. You had the same problems with the hands and the feet. They look like something that came off a fish. Just add more detail to them, maybe some pointed toes, some shoes, a bit of shading to reveal the ankle bone? I would also suggest adding a couple small smuges on the legs to give the appearance of far traveling, or landing and falling over. The boy looks like someone who would do that.

Overall:
This was a well done doodle. I could never do better myself. When I doodle, they always end up turning out to be actual drawings. xD
But I was moderately surprised. I never knew you could draw Vyper! We shall be drawing buddies now. And I hope your story with this character goes well, it certainly seems like a good one. Might I also say that I would love to read some of the story if you ever write any of it.

Talk to you later!
