I have a grasp on Spanish but only at GCSE level (which isn't exactly very advanced) and I can understand Greek, but get me to try and speak it and I freeze up. I know bits and bobs of Gujarati as well....mostly swear words, though, so it doesn't really count.
I can speak any language that I hear. Of course, I'll have no idea what I'm saying unless it's English, but I can say aloud any word that [s]ain't cussing[/s] is okay.
Iay peaksay igpay atinlay ellway. [Comprende?]
My Spanish is "Hola", "Adios", "Fajita", "Burrito", "Frito", and "Taco".
My french is limited to "Bonjour", "Merci" and whatever's on Psycho Killer by the Talking Heads.
I can sing "Oh Fir Tree" in German. Okay, only one stanza.
I'm supposed to be learning Japanese... *runs and blabbers the days of the week into DS* Although I know hardly any.
Once, I spoke the language of the flowers. [Kidding. One of my favorite poems by what's-his-name.]
Languages I've Memorized at least Three Words Of (knowledge of meaning optional):
English (Life)
Spanish (If you don't know at least "Hi" in Spanish in Texas you're lost; Muzzy)
French (Talking Heads; life)
German (Part German here!)
Japanese (J-Pop; My Japanese Coach)
Pig Latin (When I got sick of my parents speaking this strange language behind my back I learned)
Parseltongue (From the HP movie "Hah... Sah... Siah...")
For a while I could write Fulkron... No, wait, that was Vulcron or something... Fatso... I mean... Futhark! That's the word! Viking, I could write with viking runes. Had to make up a few letters for English, but runes. Now forgotten.
I know HOW to decode binary code. Not that I try very often.
So all that adds up to "No, I only speak my base language for now."
I just wasted ten minutes of your life!
Religion without science is lame; science without religion is blind.
Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the the universe.
Education is what remains after one has forgotten everything he learned in school.
Bahasa Indonesia, though not very well. Saya bisa paham, tetapi tidak bisa berbicara teralu bagus. (I can understand it, but I can't speak it well) *wince* Oh man, I am so sure that it's wrong. I can't grasp grammar and syntax in Bahasa.
A little Japanese, though most of what I know comes from anime.
Some snatches of French and Spanish.
I can speak Mandarin passably well. I'd survive in China, at the very least.
Alguien aquí es fan de Harry Potter? Yo soy una! Pero mi personaje favorito es Draco Malfoy...
Scipio:Do you know what happens here after dark? Things little eyes should never, ever see. Bo:We're not scared. Scipio:Not scared? Well, aren't you the little tiger?RAWR!
I can speak Mandarin, a little bit. BUt I can speak a dialect of Chinese quite fluently.
And (obviously) I know English.
And a teeeny tiny bit of Filipino. Just barely, though. My grammar is atrocious.
"The moral of this story, is that if I cause a stranger to choke to death for my amusement, what do you think I’ll do to you if you don’t tell me who ordered you to kill Colosimo?“
I'm fluent in French and English. In fact, I'm going to a French university despite the fact grammar hates me. I can also read Spanish sometimes, since it's actually a lot like french. I can speak a little too, but only what I remember from Spanish 1.
I'm like that song stuck in your head; I come and I go, but never truly dissapear.
English is my first language. Actually, it should be second to Chinese, but my parents had other plans when bringing me up.
My Chinese is fluent, but sometimes when I speak without thinking the words get reversed. I speak a lot of Mandarin Chinese at school but much less at home.
I also speak and write Bahasa Malaysia (Melayu) because that's where I'm from and all.. I don't like it, though. Written and spoken BM are soooo different.
Ex: To say "I got 77% for my BM in my exams."
Saya memperolehi 77% untuk peperiksaan Bahasa Malaysia saya. (Written)
BM saya dapat 77%. (Spoken)
I can say a couple of Japanese words.. and I understand a bit of some Chinese dialects (Teochew and Hokkien). That's kind of it.
Education is education. We should learn everything and then choose which path to follow. Education is neither Eastern or Western; it is human. — Malala
