War Memorial photo!

Hey!

So we went to this castle in the Highlands called Eilean Donan castle, the home of the MacRae clan. At the base of it to one side is a war memorial with all the men who died in the wars from the MacRae clan I think. At the bottom of the memorial there is this plaque with a saying on.

I just really loved the saying, so I took a photo of it so I could remember it and so I thought I would post that photo here for you. Not for you to review it or anything but just because I wanted to share I know it isn't the best photo but I didn't take it with that intent.

I loved this photo, Becki. I especially liked how the light falls across the memorial: cutting it roughly in half diagonally. It adds a very chilling effect, like the darkness of death is claiming the memorial, or something to that effect. I'm not good with poetic lines like that. Anyway, I love the phrase too. It's so melancholic. Great work with the photo, Becki!

I really like this photograph The light fals on it undisturbed and matching the sort of gloomy-ness of the mermorial and wehat it stands for. I had to memorize the poem in 9th grade history class. i still remember it. Thank you for posting!

I really liked this picture! The way that part of it is wet, and the rest dry, really stands out and makes it an image worth framing.

Also, I'll shed my knowledge here. The title of the poem from which this quote came from is 'In Flander's Fields'. It was written during WWI for reasons my mind is blanking on. Most people from the US wouldn't recognize this poem as the US did not play a large part in WWI until the end. Here is the full poem:

In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
