Brystine

"Shit," I mumbled. I had forgotten that I was at the beach. Drake had same back now. This was it. I had to do something.

I grabbed Drake with one of my firearms. Drake's immortal body could stand this heat but if it got hotter...I smiled. He would die.

"So Martin," I said casually. "You have a point. You have a little advantage with the ocean on your side. But you see, I have Drake. Now fetch me the girl and I won't kill him. Oh and I can burn Drake before your little waves will meet me."

Martin looked from me to Drake to the ocean. "I don't know where the girl is."

I smiled. Good ole Martin. Always trying to do the right thing. That's what you get for working with the light side.

"Don't do it!" Drake said. "You know that sometimes we have to make sacrifices for the world to remain the way it should!"

"Shut up!" I screamed at him. I knew my fire blazed hotter and I saw Drake grit his teeth against the burn.

I heard a sound from the beach house. I looked up. It was another guy. This was...Nick? He had many names, but I knew who he was all the same. Who had sent him here?

"I'm assuming the fiery little red-head is Brystine," he said coolly, walking towards us.

"Have you come to kill me as well?" I asked. "Well tough shit. Get in line."

"Well you see I don't have the time and I have plans tonight. Can I just cut in line. Don't worry, I'll kill you quickly."

I laughed. "It seems I'm at a disadvantage. Three immortals against one. Well, I'm going to have to agree with the Nick," I grinned, using the name he didn't like to be called. "I don't have alot of time. So, hate to cut this short but-"

I rose high into the air on a burst of fire, Drake falling to the ground. I would have to kill him later. I flew towards the small patch of woods and quickly saw Rose sitting beneath a tree. I swooped down in front of her.

"Nice to see you again," I smiled. I grabbed her and flew high into the air. Let's see Drake, Martin or their little freind catch me now.

I was getting seriously tired of being picked up and man handled, and this bitch.... oh, she was really starting to piss me off.

I turned to look at her. "Well, even though I'm probably going to die soon, at least I have a pretty view of the ocean." I said, trying to sound like a ditz.

She glared at me. "Shut up."

"I'm hooot!" I whined. If I was lucky, I could make her lose her temper and make her drop me while we were over the ocean. Maybe it would hurt a little less.

"Shut your mouth!" she yelled at me.

"You can't tell me what to do!" I yelled back.

"Girl, I swear that if you don't shut that big mouth of yours, I will seriously hurt you!"

"Bitch." I said in a sing songy voice.

"What did you call me?" she hissed.

"I called you a biiiiiitch!" I said in the same voice.

"ARRRGH!!!" It worked. She threw me away from her (painfully) and watched me as I free fell into the ocean. Before I went in, I looked back at her and waved, then I turned back and put myself into a diving position. I sliced through the water and felt it soak through my clothes. It felt good, the cold water hitting me. I was probably burned from where she had been touching me.

I was careful not to go back up just yet. I swam a little further and held onto a piece of coral. I waited until I absolutely had to go back up for air. When I did, she was no where to be seen. I started swimming along and cursed when I saw storm clouds gathering. I may not survive this I thought to myself as I started swimming harder. I could see the outline of the shore, and thought that maybe I could get there before the storm hit.

No such luck. The storm hit hard, and I was thrown around like a rag doll, praying that I wasn't going to drown. I don't know how long it was, but eventually, I was thrown against a rock. I crawled up the boulder feebly ans the strong waves crashed against me.

I finally got to the top of the boulder and collapsed. I fell asleep to the sound of crashing waves and thunder and the thought of Drake coming to save me.

Brystine

No amount of power and control was worth saving that little bitch's life. I was fed up with her and she was going to drown. It was done.

I decided to check back on the others. I flew back to Martin, Drake and that other guy. I flew behind the beach house and listened.

They were talking about me. More about how to find and kill me. I'd like to see them try. They would see that it proved to be impossible. I almost laughed at their silliness. Instead I continued to listen, not bothering to wonder where Drake was.

Drake

"Shit!" I yelled, flying evrywhere. "God damn it!" I was so stupid. How could I have just left her their. I wanted to kill Brystine. He she so much as hurt a single hair on Rose's head...I stopped my thought. Why was I so concerned about the human's life? Why did I care? Sure she was valuable, but...this was different.

I flew higher and saw Brystine. I was about to chase after her when I noticed that she had dropped something. A girl. Rose. I flew towards her but lost her amonst the waves. I dove it.

"Rose!" I shouted. A wave took me under. I spluttered and continued calling her.

The waves were getting to be too much. I had to find her from the air. I flew high, high enough to see a girl on the boulders.

"Rose!" I yelled, landing beside her. I kneeled down and smoothed her hair away from her face. She was breathing but obviously worn out and unconscious. I picked her up and flew away. I wasn't telling anyone where I was taking her this time. It was too dangerous. I had to keep her safe.

"Rose... Rose, wake up."

I distantly heard my name being called and I shifted slightly.

"Rose, darling, wake up. Tell me you're okay."

I opened my eyes to see Drake kneeling over me, looking at me with so much relief on his face, I didn't quite know what to say.

He said it for me. "Oh my... Rose, are you okay? Are you hurt?" He started to asail me with questions. What happened? Where's Brystine? Why did she drop you? Yada yada yada.

"I'm okay, Drake, really. Just tired." I leaned against the pillows, looking at him. "So, will you take me home now?"

I knew the answer, but I thought I had to try. "No, Rose, not until I'm certain that you'll be safe." he sighed. "I wish that I could make you happy, but right now, I just... I just can't."

Tears welled up in my eyes, even though I didn't want them to. I tried to look away before he saw them, but he saw them anyway. He sat on the bed and laid down next to me. He put his arms around me and pulled me close to him, trying to give me comfort. I tensed at first, but then relaxed slightly. We laid there for a moment, and I started to think about what tomorrow was. I had to take my teaching exam tomorrow, but I knew that he wouldn't let me go. Tears leaked from the corners of my eyes. I don't know how he knew, but he looked down at me with sadness and some other emotion that I couldn't quite place.

He bent down slowly and kissed the tears off of my cheeks. I blinked as he looked into my eyes with his beautiful eyes. He bent down once again, slowly, and his lips connected with mine. It was a soft, chaste kiss, but it started to grow stronger when he knew I wouldn't fight it.

I didn't know why I was letting him do this. Maybe I just needed the comfort, but I just wasn't sure at this point. I just gave myself over to the kiss, and tried to forget everything that was going on.

Drake

I kissed Rose softly, but with such a passion that I couldn't stop. I only meant to give her a sweet kiss, but it was like some part of me couldn't take it. What was this? This was something I couldn't explain. Something that made me feel like a was flying with the air around me.

I knew this was wrong. Why was I kissing her when I knew she was only seeking comfort? She couldn't possibly like me. I ruined her life.

I pulled away and she looked away from me. I couldn't read her expression and I was too scared to try to lift her face to mine. That part of me, the one that made me kiss her, was growing strong. It wanted to be close to her. I wanted to be close to her.

Rose's breath grew slower. She had fallen asleep. I kept my arms around her, using one hand to push her stray hair away from her face. She was so beautiful. More beautiful than any immortal or human I had ever seen.

"Goodnight Rose," I whispered against her cheek.

I didn't want to leave her, but I had to. We needed supplies and I sure as hell wasn't going to take her out. She would be safe here. Only I knew of this place. It was my parents, my mortal parents. The ones who had taken me in when my immortal parents died trying to protect me from the darkness.

I scribbled a quick note telling her I'd be back soon. I knew that if she left I could find her, but I hoped she trusted me. I guess that was all I could hope for. After all, I was only an immortal. She was so much more. She was beautiful and sweet and brave. And human. Something that separted us.

The felt a part of my twist painfully as I knew we could never be together. Ever. She deserved so much more and I would only break her heart. I was going to have to try and keep my distance. I stood up and headed for the door.

I closed my eyes, sighing deeply, before I walked for the next grocery store. I realized something as I passed a young couple down the street. I loved Rose and I would do whatever it took to get her safe and live a normally life. Even if it meant one without me.

Martin

After talking to the lightning immortal for a good while, Martin had concluded that they couldn't quite get along well enough. Certainly, this assassin knew what he was doing. That was undeniable. It didn't mean Martin had to get along with him. And, while neither of them had spoken it out loud, the tension had been very present. Lightning and water didn't mix well, everyone knew that.

Martin had actually been spending more time trying to think of a strategy to deal with a lightning immortal than to deal with Brystine, now. In his eyes, the assassin was the bigger threat. He was, moreover, a threat to the balance that Brystine helped to keep. Perhaps an alliance is in order, though not of the overt kind.

In the meantime, he had to find Drake. It was difficult, Martin could track him, but was surprised to find that he was near none of the safe houses. Drake...who have you put in danger to keep that girl safe?

Eventually, Martin was able to pick up a trace of him, and stepped over to a drain. The other immortals had their own ways of travel - Drake's air mastery, Brystine's 'rocketry'. Earth immortals could tunnel at great speed through almost anything. Martin was somewhat restricted in that sense, except, of course, at sea.

He reached down, touching the trickle of water that ran through the drain, and then allowed himself to become one with it. He shot along the tiny stream, focusing hard so that he could keep his body together as the stream became larger, faster, diverged.

Finally, he sensed Drake nearby, and shifted his watery form over towards the edge of the pipe.

Moments later, water vapour began rising out of a grate in a back alley, unnoticed by anyone. Slowly, it spun itself back into Martin, who dusted himself off, a slightly disgusted look on his face. "How I loathe travelling in that fashion." He murmured, then walked to the street.

There, he found Drake, who seemed surprised to see him. Martin knew that the safe house could be nowhere nearby, it had taken him a good hour to find Drake, who could travel quite fast when he wanted to. He wouldn't have stayed near Rose for long, if he wanted to protect her. "Martin! Where did you-"

"I swam." The water immortal replied, a sour tone in his voice, "Drake, the Council has hired an assassin. His element is lightning, and I don't think he's any slouch with it either. I don't trust him, though. And they want him to kill Brystine, which will do no end of damage to the current balance between light and dark." He stopped, "So you see my dilemma, I imagine."

"I don't really care what you think. All my assassinations must have a definite location. You gave me yours, and she ran away the second I got there, those other immortals just got in that way. Now if you want me to track and assassinate her, it will cost more for it," I told the light member who approached me the first time.

"Fine," She sighed and handed me another envelope, I pocketed it, tipped my hat, and ran to the wall. I gripped a lamp, and focused on electricity. Lightning immortals were like water immortals in travel. We morphed into our element, and took off. A slight tingle went up my spine, and slowly spread to the rest of my body. Once the tingle was everywhere, I felt a rush of power, and a crackle erupted from every part of me. My skin slowly morphed into the electricity that surrounded it, and I went straight into the lamp, piece by piece.

When in I focused my thought on finding those immortals from before. I need to find the fire girl, I had a feeling they might have some ideas. I found them quickly, I new the safe houses, and new they would be at one of them. After my third try at a house, I arrived in the right one. I had emerged in the top light of a small home, and say Drake and Martin there.

My body descended from the light, a snake like form. Slowly it shaped from the reptile, and into a human form. The crackling that came from my ended, as I was turned from energy, into physical form.

"How did you find us here?" Martin asked as soon as I was fully formed.

"I know every safe house, part of my job. I need you two to tell me something though, any of you know where the fire user you were fighting before might have gone?"

Drake

"This isn't a safe house and this isn't somewhere you can come and barge in whenever you feel like it. You weren't invited now leave," I said through gritted teeth. I didn't trust this guy.

"Oh, I will leave. After you tell me where the fire immortal has gone to," he replied, casually.

"We know nothing," Martin said calmly. The lighting immortal raised his chin a fraction of an inch.

"I don't think I believe you," he responded, coldly.

"And I don't think I care," I said, pushing air at him. He flew from my parents house, the door banging behind him. I raised my arms, an air shield forming around us. I didn't want this guy around Rose.

"Bad move Drake," I heard him whisper from the other side. I could feel him banging on my shield. I smiled. It would take a while to get through it. Those winds were powerful. They would protect this house, that's what I had brought them here for.

Brystine

I sat in my apartment. I shivered. Something was wrong with me. I fell on my bed and pulled my knees up to my chest. What was going on?

My thoughts were pulling me back to the girl. Rose. I had thrown her out into the ocean out of mercy and I knew it. My fists clenched. I had never done that before. I was scared. What was I becoming?

I remembered all the people I have killed. They seemed like shawdows that haunted me, not like deaths I had created that needed praise. I felt a tear trickle down my cheek and I moaned. Oh the pain I had caused! It was terrible. What was wrong with me!?

I pushed myself off the bed on shaky knees. I looked in my mirror and just stared. I didn't see the the cool, confidant, beautiful fire immotal I had always known. I saw a scared girl whose eyes shown too much pain and knowlede for her years.

I touched my red hair, it hung limp and dull, not my normal blazing halo. I ran for the door. There was only one person who could help me now.

I rocketed off into the sky until I heard the familiar voices I was looking for. Their was an air shield around the place but I burned a hole in it. I sighed, even my fire was weak.

I crashed through and Martin and Drake looked up surprised.

"Brystine," Drake whispered, angrily. He was getting ready to attack. I sighed. Maybe this was a good thing. I had taken so many lives myself. And then laughed about it!

"Wait," Martin said. I looked up and he gazed at me shocked. So he saw it too.

"Please," I said. "I need your help. I don't know what I'm turning into."

"What?" Drake asked. I sat down on the floor and held my face in my hands.

"I don't know! That's why I came to you! I'm frightened and I need your help." They looked shocked. The cold and confidant Brystine that lived inside me broke. I collapsed into a sobbing heap. I was gone. This was it. I had lost my protective outer shell. I felt weak and vunerable. And it was in front of my enemies to top it all off. I just screwed myself.

**Sorry! I thought I'd posted.**

Martin

This was, in essence, the worst time Brystine could have possibly shown up. The guy who was trying to assassinate her was so close, and battering away at Drake's defences, and now she was more or less presenting him with a target.

"What do we do with her?" Drake asked, exchanging a glance with Martin.

Martin pointed to the wind walls, "You concentrate on those! Don't let the assassin through, whatever you do!"

Brystine looked up at him, surprised, "You...you're not going to let him kill me?"

The water immortal shook his head, "Not yet, you're far too much fun to have around." He laughed a little, eyes sparkling, then turned, "Drake, can you seal him in some kind of air bubble? We need to get Brystine out of here."

**Not much, I know, but my original post is gone, and this needs to get going again.**

Brystine

Here I was. With the enemy. I felt so...weak. I hated this. Wasn't I Brystine. Daughter of Satan, himself. I thought of my mother. She was an immortal. a fire immortal with a heart. Maybe I was to be more like her.

"No," I whispered. "Not ever. I will never be weak like her." Martin looked at me like he thought I finally went completely crazy. On fact, it was just the opposite. I had regained my mind. I had lost my control. After all, this was the first time I ever failed a mission.

I thought again. Drake and Martin were trying to HELP me. After I had just tried to kill them. I gritted my teeth. I had to forget these feelings. I couldn't spare their lives. I had no mercy!

I was weak but I still managed a fire. It shot out towards Martin. He looked surprised as I stood up and shot water at me. He was more powerful than I at the moment. Something was wrong with me!

I tried to regain my flame but he only doused me in water, making me sizzle and the little fight I had left died.

"What the hell is wrong with you Brystine!" He asked, grabbing the tops of my arms. I held my head down. Maybe I had drove myself insane. I didn't know. I just knew I needed to do something. I felt like a little kitten, dependant on her mother's milk. Not the uncontrollable, pouncing lioness I had been earlier.

"I don't know," I whispered. "I can't even conjure up a single flame. I hate this. I don't know what's wrong with me."

Martin looked shocked. "Well-"

"Stop looking at me like that! you think I don't know what I look like. I'm no longer Brystine! I think I'd rather die than have people look at me like that!" I yelled.

**I'll post for ole Drake later (: I figure Brystine needed a post. She's halfway crazy right now.

The air pushed me back. I had faced air shields many times, and has two ways I always got through them. I pulled out my blades, and jammed them into the ground, and pulled out large chunks of dirt. it took me two more to find what I needed, power lines. I grabbed one, and zapped in. I went right back to the house from there.

What I saw please me, the fire girl was right there, and covered in water. Quickly I calculated my odds. Air I was even with, it could go either way with him, the fire, lightning was a more purified fire, so I had a lead there, slight but still, and lastly water something I had a large lead on. Now add them all, and me, and I came to a quick conclusion. Swing fast and hard. Take the air first, he was the bigger threat, and easiest to knock.

I jumped out from the lamp, my swords drawn, and swung the lightning covered blades. I went straight for the air bender, and swung. He was so surprised, he fell, knocked out. Easier than I thought. Go figure. I turned to see the other's had still not found their wits. I held one sword out, and poked the water immortal with it's plain point.

"Try and blast me out, and I'll come back, and take that girl you like too. I am working on Light council orders. Which means your superiors. So back off, or they might be sending me after you next, and you don't-" I felt the tempter go up, and turned to see the fire girl on her feet.

"Well I am not on the Light side. SO I don't care," she said, and hurled a fire ball at me. U ducked and it nailed the water guy instead. He was knocked out.

"Looks like it is just you and me then," I said and examined my blades casually. "Fire versus lightning. Basically the same thing, Yet so different. Me the pure, controlled. You loose and unrefined," this got her a bit.

She hurled another fireball at me, and I side stepped it. "Time to fight then," I yawned and sent lightning at her.

Sorry for knocking you guys out like that, I just needed Nick and Brystine alone to fight.

It was like something finally cracked. My energy rebuilt and the excess water evaporated.

"Yes. Just you and me. But not for long," I replied, lighting fire around us. I could feel the energy crackling as the lightning immortal prepared to fight me.

My energy, depleted when I had arrived, had now risen. I was foolish before. I should feel no mercy for anyone! I smiled. I could almost feel the life come back into me. The change must have been noticable because Nick pursed his lips.

"Yes. Not for long," he said, lighting striking near me. My hands flew above my head and fire roared up around my body even higher than that. I twisted the fire into a rope and shot it towards Nick. He grimaced and stepped to the side.

"That it, fire immortal? Too bad. I actually thought there was going to be a fight," he smiled.
