I just barely finished this. It's given me a good deal of frustration, but the ending outcome was far better than I'd hoped! If you notice anything wonky or wrong, please inform me!

Oh my God, it's wonderful! I only noticed her lips are in a certain way that seems a little funky to me... if you made them that way, that's fine, but otherwise, I would consider changing that.

Wow! You are amazing! How long have you been doing art? You're a pro! :D:D:D

Wow. This is really good. I mean, I can only dream of being able to draw like this! How long have you been drawing?

Okay, now for the real review. Since everything was in proportion I'll just point out what was a little off.

Nose and Mouth: Nose is great, takes up the right amount of space, right length, right width, it's a great nose. Especially compared to my fat one :P The lips are great, though I might've liked to see a little more shading on the top lip. Of course, I don't know where the light source is. But the big problem? Where's the little dent/line that rests between the nose and mouth? It's missing! Aaaaaa!

Shading and Highlights: The shading is very nice, though it's a little hard for me to figure out where your light source is coming from. From the neck and hair, I'd say upper right, but everything else makes me think head-on.

And great job on the shirt! I love it!

Hi Bittersweet! Don't believe we've met yet, I'm Forever Threnody. Hi. Now, here's your review:

Overall, this is a really good picture! It's really clear and pretty, slightly idealistic but neverless, it looks great. I just have some little comments and that's it.

1) On Finding a Source of Light
In order for a picture to appear more realistic, which realism is probably the style you were trying to achieve with this, a consistent source of light is always good. Find the direction from which the light is coming from and shade accordingly. In this picture, you've shaded well, but you don't give the sense of actual shade, just layers of random shadow.

2) On Something That Doesn't Quite Have A Determinable Title
Again, I truly liked this picture, but it lacks the small details that can bring it to life. Like a small fold of her dress, or deeper shading and such. To really bring a portrait alive, and make it look like it's subject, you need to pay attention to very little details which, when put all together, make up the painting. They are nearly as important tools to distinguish paintings as the basic shape and concept.

That's about it. I did like your portrait a lot, it was very consistent and smoothly drawn.

Wow Holly, this is amazing. Now, to comment.

First off, I find that her jawline is a bit shaky and bumpy. Especially on the right side. It seems to be part of the hollows of her cheeks, but it's still a bit wobbly.

The hollows on her cheeks are a bit deep as well in my opinion. They make her look extremely thin, on what would otherwise be a normally-built girl. Make the shading on her cheeks less harsh to ease that. ^_^

I'd either clean up or add to the flyaway hair that we can see on the edges. With hair that strait, it usually doesn't just randomly frizz like that. ;)

Her neck could use a touch more shading/details. There isn't much evidence of veins and so forth, when there'd be a soft mention.

I agree with Forever about the dress thing. There could be a few more details in there, perhaps a bit more emphasis on the bust, to make her look a bit less flat-chested. That's up to you though.

I want you to teach me how to do eyes. The ones you drew here are just amazing. :D

Teach me how to do hair too. ^_^

Nice work Holly! 'Twas hard to find mistakes!

Hello.

Wow, the eyes look amazing! I absolutely love them.

The lips do look a little weird, I think. Another problem I see is the proportions. The head looks too big for the shoulders it is connected to.

Anyway, all else, brilliant and very pretty.

Sigh. Tis very very pretty. Vair vair pretty indeedy. And so correct too. It makes me smile everytime I see the forehead shaded as it should be.

I have but two problems.

1. I am wondering why the head and the neck is all anatomically awesome, but then you drew the shoulder bones so.... unshoulder-boney. You got them the right shape, all curved like a stretched out S, but if you look at how the bone blends into the outline, you can see that it doesn't work. It makes it look like you drew the outline and then added all the bones and stuff in, rather than modelling the outline around the bone.

2. the curls at the end of the hair are really forced. Hair doesn't clump into furls like that. You get flyaways and natural looking spirals. If you look at it, the face looks like it could be of a real person, whereas the hair looks, you know, faker.

And I would say how there should be more detail in the dress but I've been guilty of that thar offence thar. It's like, geez, I drew the freaking face and that took me long enough!! Leave me alone!!

Anyways. J'adore ca. Je t'aime. PM me if you have any questions. xxx

This is beautiful! I love her hair, how cute :) This must have taken you so long to do. Bravo! I just have a few complaints ahah even though this is nearly perfecto!

- The swiggles in the backround are destracting at least to me. I kept trying to figure out what it was. Then i realized it was a bounch of swiggles or am I still wrong and it's suppose to be the wind or something? Cause then i would feel really stupid :)

-Second it's something about her head. It's not misshapen I dont think but maybe her head is tilted or something, but it just set off as soon as i looked at it.

Everything else looks amazing :)

Awesome work!

This is certainly a beautfiul piece, Holly. Certainly one of my favourites.
I don't feel right reviewing realism but I will try my best! ;)

Image

Point One:
I believe someone has said this before, but the hair seems so perfect and straight. The curls at thr bottom I believe could possibly have been neater. What you coul do to make the hair seem less perfect is to simply add some fly-aways, or add more curls to the top part. The reason why I suggest this is because a lot of times hair that curls at the bottom isn't necessarily straight at the top. Add more curls up there, and some appropriate shading and I am sure it would be great.

Point Two:
I would suggest adding more ripples or shading into the clothes to make them less flat. When drawing realism you have to be careful with clothing because unlike animated pictures the clothing lays not flat on the persons body. And when there is ripples and wrinkles, there is also more shading due to that. I also believe to additional shading will add more interest to your pictures because of the different use of darkness and light.

Point Three:
If you look at an actual persons nose, there is usually a curve to it, to the inside. How you added the shading to this, it makes the nose seem flat all the way down which is not possibly due to human bone structure. Might I recommend adding that concave curve to the nose's bridge.

Point Four:
Rascalover also pointed this out. The squiggles in the background can be very distracting. Might I recommend just keeping it white or another solide shade that doesn't take away from the drawing.

Point Five:
This arrow is just moderately pointing at the whole cheek area even though it looks like it is pointing at the nostril. Ignore that please. But what I noticed was that the shading on this cheek didn't quite match up to the other and was fairly broader. It also doesn't lok even. Was that because of your scanner? Because actually, my scanner tends to do that too. ;)

Beautiful picture by the way, and I am amazed that this was drawn by someone your age. Certainly better then I could ever do. You know what, I believe I am inspired to draw a realistic face! I shall so that you can see how much of a epic fail it really will be. xD

Hope to see more of your drawings!

I really like it. My only thing is that the drawings eyes look lost they show no emotion, she almost seems like she has lost someone and she has gone with them. I really like the detail though. It was really cool to see how you shaped her hair made it look like she wasn't bald. Wait a little time. Most drawing take a lot of work. Try taking a break from it for a day and then go back and work on it again. It will seem to look different after your eyes have seen it for so long. Thanks and keep up the good work.

I find this piece beautiful overall. Now I will tell you the negatives first and then the positives.

1. The background is a problem, even though the focus of the picture is the girl the background distracts the observer.

2. Her arms are unpropotional to the rest of the body. The lines you used to indicate her arms make them appear too small.

3. The hair as Incognito points out inconsistent. You could add more waves to the top. Or simply make the curls straiter.

Now on to the positive points:

1. The shading is wonderful. It gave life to the piece and made her look realistic.

2. The eyes are beautiful and very detailed down to the irises and eyelashes.

3. I commend you on the fact that you gave her freckles, this adds character and again realism to the your drawing.

Once again I say overall your drawing is beautiful. I look foward to seeing more.

Oh my gosh, that is amazing. It looks realistic and the person is very beautiful. I'm not an expert critiquer, but I did notice a few things.

1) The shoulders and head aren't proportional. She looks slightly "bobbleheadish"

2) The eyelashes on her right eye look a little strange...but it might just be me.

I would write more, but I have to go.

Keep drawing and you'll go places. Your drawing is amazing. ; )

First I'd like to thank you all for your compliments and criticism. I did notice a ton of things that I hadn't noticed before, thanks to you guys.

I would like to point out that what you see of the neck isn't the whole neck. Some of the hair on the right sight is partially overlapped on her neck. But I completely understand why you say her neck looks so small. I'll try to fix it so it looks wider and not 'bobbleheadish'. xD And I'll try and fix the other things you all mentioned.

okay, now he hair is good, but i think you should add more curls to the top. and a little shine to it. near the bottom is were things get a little weird. somethings not right down there, maybe its the fact the her body is facing away and her collarbone up is facing towards us... *scratches head*
anyway, the contrast in the eyes are amazing! nice work with the shading in the face. you are a Nat-TOO-ral!
