Current street-dancer, previous ballet and ballroom dancer reporting!

I started ballet when I was 6 or 7, did that for a semester and quit. I started ballroom dancing when I was 9, quit when I was 13 or 14. I started street-dancing last autumn, and don't plan on quitting for a long time. :D

I would absolutely love to learn to do a split. I'm just so nonflexible. Also, pirouettes are cool.

I've danced since I was three.

Tried every dance out there, from ballet to tap to modern to some kind of African Native dance, and now I've settled at hip-hop. Although, I wish they'd come up with a different name for it, because I always get funny looks when I tell people what kind of dance I do.

I can't even touch my toes, I'm so nonflexible. It's a miracle I can do any of the moves. But I love it

Demi-- When I read that you street-dance, I got this mental image of Simba doing the worm in a dark alleyway.

Previous tap, ballet, jazz, and Irish dancer! Did all of these from age six to age eleven...unfortunately my studio went out of business. I do love it though, do it recreationally now.

You should have seen my face when I read that, Evi. It was something like, OMG NO. LAWL.

Omg, Evi.

Street dance and hip hop are pretty close each other, aren't they? I'm glad to find another one :D

We're going to have a show in a week! My first street dance show! Eee!

How did I miss this thread...???

I've taken *takes deep breath* Ballet, ballroom, hip-hop, Irish, tap, jazz, highland, theater and North Indian dance. Of course, these are spread over 13 years (I, too, have been dancing since I was three) and some classes I only took for a month or so, (or, in the case of hip-hop, ballroom and Irish, one week), but I remember moves from just about all the dance styles I've done, soo.

 I'm not actually taking any classes right now though. I can't find anything that fits.

When it comes to legs, I suggest kicks both front and back. Do twenty of those a day and you'll be flexible in no time. (That's what I do, anyways, and within two weeks I was from being a foot off the flood with splits to six inches)

Good luck Demi!

My favorite dancers are strippers. The best part is you dont feel like stabbing yourself in the eye with a fork when you watch it.

I've been taking classical ballet for two and a half years now. I have no experience with any other form of dance, but classical ballet is amazing. I don't know how I went without it for eleven and a half years. :D

Hmm... seems I'm the only dancer out here who is doing something ... a bit different. :)

I tried ballet when I was 3 and hated it. I did jazz when I was 12 and liked it, I did hip hop when I was 14 and felt like an epileptic spider with roller skates on. And 2 years ago, at 15, I started doing... BELLY DANCING! And I love every minute of it, I live for my dancing.

I can't touch my toes to save my life, and am incredibly inflexible, but the best thing about belly dancing, is that it's about technique, not how high you can kick your legs. (Although... I'm sure it would help!)

My friend is into belly dancing. I've done it once or twice. The movements are still known to creep into my free-dancing.

Haha! That is a big problem with dancing! When you do any type of dancing it takes a lot of concentration for you not to let it creep into your free dancing!

Hmm, yes, the is true.

Although I find that the more I dance in do, the better I get at other styles. It helps that I don't take any classes, I just free-dance, but I still like how all the different techniques blend together as I move.

Interesting...
I'm going to start lyrical in the summer of after it...
Maybe before...
I might take jazz too, but I find lyrical more...interesting. (:

Lyrical? Never taken that.

I have taken jazz though. 'Tis very fun. If I were to start classes again, it would probably be jazz classes. Although I would first have to decide if I want to take classes again.

As the notifications drift in I stop and wonder. Why do they take so long? Do they have adventures we don't know about? I bet they do. When they come I will ask myself. What amazing adventure has this straggling notification been on? How far did it travel, and why didn't it take me?
