I love to write and make things bigger than life. I try to keep that to my writing, but........I have noticed that when I talk, even about the smallest things, I go into a trance and start talking out loud about something that I did, but while I'm talking, I'm forming a plot for a story around something that I did. So when I'm talking to my friends, start off with the truth then I go on telling a lie without thinking about it. Don't worry, I don't lie online. I just need some help on containing my stories to my head. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Haha...this actually sounds a bit like me

Like the other day, me and my friend went out clubbing and were (almost) attacked by this crazy man who thought he was a cat - he had the meow and everything lol When I came to telling my other friend about it though, I ended up expanding on the story to make it sound more interesting. It's not like she'll ever be able to tell which parts I made up but my imagination seems to just do it without consulting my brain...

Oh well :D I have trouble controlling my imagination too - I usually end up trying to change the subject before my story gets too complicated and crazy!

Don't even try to blame writing on lying. That ship will not sail. If you have a tendency to exaggerate in conversation, then after you finish saying something like that, pause, and then say, "Okay, so I'm exaggerating a bit..."

Thus, you're covered for. Don't call it lying, because lying is a whole different story.

Like Krupp said, that isn't lying. Everyone exaggerates, even if they aren't writers. Take the fisherman and the story of the fish that got away. Or the party that everyone at school is raving about. I'll bet you it wasn't even half as great as they all make it out to be. :P

Unlike lies, exaggerations are rarely damaging. It's more a way to get sympathy or better convey how you felt when whatever you're telling the story of happened. After all, deep down, you know that evil teacher spawned from the depths of Hell is probably a decent human being outside of the classroom. :P

I have to agree with the two people above me. If you do find yourself doing that, just stop and say, "Whoops, what am I saying? That's not what happened!"

Though, I can see how being a writer would lead you to be a bit more prone to that, so you get a bit of sympathy from me. :P

I don't exaggerate for attention or what not, and I'm not blaming it on my writing. All I was saying is that I tend to exaggerate more ever since I started writing. And a half truth is never a half a lie. (I thought I'd throw that in there.)

Well, if you're exaggerating more than you just have to keep mentally reminded yourself that that's not the truth. Just remind yourself or do what Krupp said.

I tend to exaggerate lots but I think that's who I am. I tend to make things bigger than they seemed. It makes things more exciting but my brother is always there to correct me.

Just try not to blow things too much out of proportion and you'll be fine with a exaggerating ;)

I said no, but because I cannot remember a time I haven't been writing, so I really can't compare my tendencies to exaggerate since begining to write with when I didn't now can I?
