Nano Mix for Conrad Rice

For a prize for my Amidships Contest, Conrad won a fanmix. But, instead of one looong fanmix, I’ve broken it up into three parts: there are two double sided mixes and one EP that comprise a 70 odd song playlist.

This is the last one; I finally found the song. This is for his characters Koyos and Alaine from his Nanowrimo Novel, Hearts in the Sea. If there are any problems or you just want one or two songs, please tell me and I’ll do my best to fix/accommodate you.

Here are the other two mixes: click here.

The title is partly from Ariel's Song in Shakespeare's The Tempest.

Come unto these yellow sands,
And then take hands:
Curtsied when you have, and kiss'd
The wild waves whist,
Foot it featly here and there;
And, sweet sprites, the burthen bear.
Hark, hark!
Bow-wow.
The watch-dogs bark.
Bow-wow.
Hark, hark! I hear
The strain of strutting chanticleer
Cry, Cock-a-diddle-dow.

Full fathom five thy father lies;
Of his bones are coral made;
Those are pearls that were his eyes:
Nothing of him that doth fade,
But doth suffer a sea-change
Into something rich and strange.
Sea-nymphs hourly ring his knell:
Ding-dong.
Hark! now I hear them—Ding-dong, bell.

The other thing the title is partly from is Sylvia Plath's poem Full Fathom Five.

Note: There is also a bonus track hidden on Side B.

Enjoy,
Cal.

iii. full fathom five; I would rather breath water
—a Koyos/Alaine mix—

The quote on the track lists is “Both doth suffer a sea-change into something rich and strange”—a line from Shakespeare’s The Tempest. This mix is just for Koyos and Alaine’s relationship and romance.

1. hallelujah. rufus wainwright.

4. sea people. emiliana torrini.
when you say goodbye
my lungs ache, filled with water
'cause i will always love you

5. in the sun. joseph arthur.
i picture you in the sun wondering what went wrong
and falling down on your knees asking for sympathy
and being caught in between all you wish for and all you seen
and trying to find anything you can feel that you can believe in

but i was caught in between all you wish for and all you need
i picture you fast asleep
a nightmare comes
you can’t keep awake

A song from the POV of Koyos.

6. mermaid. daughter darling.
i live where you can't see me
hiding away in the shadows of the deep
i swim into the bottom of your world
for every space i cross i see a thousand pearls

i breathe what i know you fear
all the sounds i love, you will never hear
i know what it is that turns beneath your feet
floating on the surface of my enchanted sea

close your eyes and take my hand
hold your breath as long as you can
we'll leave behind the storms above
and swim into the seas of our love

7. yes. coldplay.
when it started we had high hopes;
now my back's on the line, my back's on the ropes...
when it started we were alright,
but night makes a fool of us in daylight.

there we were dying of frustration,
saying, "lord lead me not into temptation."
but it's not easy when she turns you on...
since they've gone.

if you'd only, if you'd only say yes.
whether you will is anybody's guess.
god only, god knows i'm trying my best,
but i'm just so tired of this loneliness.

A song from the POV of Koyos.

are all worn down
the time for sleep is now
but it's nothing to cry about
because we'll hold each other soon
in the blackest of rooms

when your soul embarks
then i'll follow you into the dark
then i'll follow you into the dark

A lovely folksy cover of Death Cab.

15. moon river. henry mancini
moon river, wider than a mile,
i'm crossing you in style some day.
oh, dream maker, you heart breaker,
wherever you're going i'm going your way.
two drifters off to see the world.
there's such a lot of world to see.
we're after the same rainbow's end--
waiting 'round the bend,
my huckleberry friend,
moon river and me.
