I stood with many others in the dark stuffy room. I didn't like it. What were they doing here? I blended myself into the shadows and listened to their confused conversations. I drifted to the top of the closet and circled around. I didn't want to hurt these people. I knew I could. I wasn't completely evil, but sometimes I didn't have control over myself.

Why wouldn't they leave, I thought, impatiently. Something was going on. I needed to get home. I needed to be alone. Completely alone. These others were annoying me. I never really had a high tolerance for people. They were all the same to me. Petty, jealous, annoying, and so unaware. It made me want to laugh.

Somebody looked up at me. Almost as if she could sense me. It was impossible to see me. i was nothing more than a shadow. She just kept staring and darted to another corner. I didn't like the feel of her eyes on my whether I was invisible or not.

probably should have explained this better. Your characters, with all the others, and the creators are together, in the closet.

'Well, this is awkward,' I thought. Stuck in a closet with a whole bunch of other people that were complete strangers to me. I didn't know what to expect, really. One minute, I was minding my own business, trying to help Hayd prepare, and then I was here.

Something didn't feel quite right. There were quite a lot of people here, but I felt as if something were wrong. It was like there was an extra person here, but I couldn't see him. Slowly bringing up a hand to cover my shoulder, I tried to sense for him. The green glow was muffled by my hand as I activated the artifice.

There was a person here, and he was invisible. He was standing to the left and in front of me. My eyes followed where my magic told me to go. And he knew that I was watching him.
There once was a cat.
He wasn’t particularly fat.
Fuzzy was his favorite mat.
And really, that was that.

Oh, but did you really think so?

The girl knew I was here! How was that. Even my own kind couldn't know I was here. Not unles they felt my shadow form. She was only a human. She couldn't know. I sensed something else. There was something else about her. Something I couldn't quite reach.

I needed to talk to this girl. Did she work for him. The evil in me was starting to rise. I could kill all of them. I knew I could and I felt that compressed part of me rising. I stuffed it back down. Where it belonged. No. I wouldn't kill anyone. Especially not a bunch of helpless humans.

The girl wasn't looking directly at me anymore. She was probing me. I could feel it. So she did sense me! She must be like me. I really needed to talk to her now. But it would have to wait. These humans needed to leave. Fast. Something was going on and I was going to figure it out.

Who was that person? I had experience with invisibility before, but never like this. It was as if he melted into the background, becoming a part of it, not just cloaking himself from sight. It was completely different from anything I had seen before. It was much more advanced; I don't think even the Mentors at Flaxen Gold could do that. The closest would be making somebody's mind think that you're just a part of the background when you're actually standing in front of their face, but this... this went beyond all that.

I wasn't about to risk speaking just yet, though. It could be close to suicidal. This could be the inside of a Shade Beast for all I knew. But really, why hadn't anyone moved yet? And what happened?

The people inside started siffling their feet. They were ready to get out. I sighed as they started to file out. The girl who had been staring at me hadn't moved. She wasn't staring at me now but I could feel her eyes looking for me. The closet door shown light in the room and I was exposed. The shadows retreated and it would look a little odd to see a shadow in the middle of the closet. I found a tiny corner in the back and waited to the door to close. It didn't.

The girl held the door, almost as if she was waiting for me.

"You coming?" She asked. I looked around. She was really talking to me. No one else was here. "You know, I don't have all day." I could tell she was afraid. Good. She should be. I transformed in front of her.

"And neither do I," I responded coolly. I could tell this wasn't what she expected but she didn't falter at all. I almost smiled. So there was a human with a backbone. Interesting.

"Ladies first," I smiled, bowing low and mockingly. She walked out of the closet and I waited for her to run away from me. She didn't. So there was more than to her then what appears on the outside. Very nice. I smiled. She would run if she knew me. I was evil. Something that shouldn't be tampered with. Something that should be avoided.

"What are you?" She asked. She got right to the point. I admired that.

"Don't you think we should start with names? I'm Mark," I said, extending my hand. Let's see how brave she really was.

We came out into a large corridor, walls blank and smooth. The space we were in appeared to be a closet of some sort. The lights were a bit dim, but it was enough to see by. The other people in here were dispersing quickly. As I watched a girl leave, I couldn't help but feel some sense of familiarity. But I was sure I didn't know her.

The person I sensed before... no, not a person. The being I sensed before introduced himself and I wondered what to do. It wasn't wise to give away my identity, but this was a completely different place. Alliances would be beneficial.

I frowned and looked at the hand. There didn't seem to be anything about it. Well, nothing I could sense anyway. That reminded me: I'd have to stop using magic so often. My artifice would wear itself out soon if I kept feeding it. Was there any possible way I could get this replaced? I doubted it. Only the people at King's Valley could do that.

I took the hand. "I am Ina. Now, exactly what are y-"

As soon as I took the hand, I could feel something strange run through me. It wasn't pleasant, wasn't unpleasant, but just strange. My grip tightened against my will and I could see Mark smiling.

"Excuse me...?"

James

What had just happened? One moment I was standing with Robert, in front of me was some bizzare chamber. He said to follow him, and then before I could jump after him, I was pulled here.

"James?" came a perplexed voice next to me.

"Who are you?" I asked nervously. "How do you know my name?"

"I am Ryan. I created you," he said, fear, awe and excitement all mixed in his voice.

"Your my dad?" I asked.

"No. More like I'm your writer," he told me.

"What does that mean?"

"Hey guys," came another voice. " Anyone else see the characters?"

"Yeah I do," came the same voice as the person I was talking to.

"What is going on then?" another voice asked.

"No idea. But maybe we should get out of here first. Find out what is happening," the person I had been talking to said, and we filed out of the closet.

I gripped Ina's hand firmly. I wasn't going to hurt her, after all it's not like I want to, but I needed to scare her away. No one was safe around me. I was evil and I could hurt someone without it being on purpose. Sometimes I just couldn't help myself.

"Excuse me?" She asked. So she was diferrent. She didn't look evil, so she must be good. I let her feel more of my evil aura. I could tell she wasn't sure of what to make of it. I cocked an eyebrow. She was pure, too pure to know about this kind of thing. I wasn't going to corrupt her any further. I let go of her hand.

"Now this is why you leave things be Ina," I said, calmly. "Next time you sense something leave it alone. They're not always freindly. They could be like me. Completely evil." She looked at me. IT was impossible to read her features. Interesting, I thought, I had always been so good at reading faces.

"I can't find my character," I heard someone say. "He was probably in the closet but hiding himself in the shadows. He has a real talent for that." It sounded like a girl. She laughed but her voice was fading. Good, I thought. She couldn't possibly be talking about me.

I snatched my hand away from Mark. Evil? There was no such thing as pure evil, was there? Even the students at Gatama... they couldn't be all evil. They merely lost emotion, didn't they? It didn't make them pure evil.

"Evil is not something you choose to be," I said.

"No, it isn't," he agreed. "It is what I am. And for your own good, you had better stay away from me." With that, he left, disappearing among everyone else. I blinked to myself, wondering what had just happened. What made him so sure that he was dangerous?

"Hello? Are you really Ina?" a voice asked. I turned around and saw a young girl standing there. She seemed to be excited and frightened at the same time. Strange, I frowned.

"Yes, my name would be Ina," I slowly began. "Why is that of any concern to you?"

"Oh, wow! I'm Emily, and I... I really loved creating you and-" I blinked again.

"Creating me? What do you mean?"

The girl, now known as Emily, winced. "Well... it's kind of... strange..." She stopped for a while. "Actually, I don't think I know what's going on. We'd better go talk to the others." With that, she grabbed my hand and dragged me off with everyone else.

'What is going on?' I asked myself. 'What happened?'

Hey... Can I still join??

I tell the neophyte: Write a million words–the absolute best you can write, then throw it all away and bravely turn your back on what you have written. At that point, you’re ready to begin.
