Chapter 3: Changes
I pushed the door of the house open and ran inside.
“Catherine?” mum yelled panic in her voice.
“Yea, mum it’s me.” I said as she flew into the doorway.
“Oh Thank God I was going to ring the police to send out a search party.” She paused setting her eyes on my dried tears and puffy eyes.
“Honey, you have been crying again, did you see him?”
“Yea, and guess what he was cheating on me and his new girlfriend is Lilly.” I said in one breath.
She gasped, “Oh my, cheated on you with……… Lilly……….. Oh my.”
“Yea, I’ve decided to change can I please borrow some money I’m going to get a hair cut.”
She shook her head. “I don’t think that’s a good idea you’re just upset.”
“Trust me mum I’m not upset I’m over him we had a good long talk.”
“Wait, you guys talked?”
“Yea ill tell you after my hair cut.”
She laughed but went and got her wallet.
“I only have thirty dollars.”
“That will do I have some money of my own to.”
I went to grab the money but she pulled her hand back.
“What.” I asked slightly annoyed.
“What are you getting done?”
“It’s a surprise.”
“Nothing to extreme?”
“Nope.”
She handed me the money.
I ran up the stairs and opened the door to my room, and saw the phone still lying on the floor.
“Maybe I should buy a new phone to.” I thought to myself.
I smashed my piggy open and put all the money into my wallet. Then bounced back down the stairs I was so excited.
“Your attitudes picked up,” My dad said as he walked into the room. “Are you going out with Eddie?”
My face fell. So did mums.
“Sorry honey, I forgot to tell him.”
“Tell me what?” he asked.
“It’s okay mum,” I told her I turned back to dad. “No dad I’m not going out with Eddie we broke up this morning.”
His face fell “Oh I’m so sorry sweaty.”
“Don’t sweet it ill be back later cya,”
I ran out the door to excited to walk. I bounced down the street a couple of times turning thinking that I’ve heard or seen Eddie or Lilly. I shook my head and mumbled to myself “It’s all in my head.”
I got to the door of the hairdressers in less the 10 minutes.
“Buenos Tardes Senora” I said to the lady behind the counter.
“Buenos Tardes Senorita, how may I help?”
“I was just wondering do you have any gaps to fit me in today?”
“Mmmmm, I think maybe you’re in luck in an hour’s time we have a space, would you like that?”
“Oh yes please.” I said “Gracias.”
“De nada.”
I walked out of the hairdressers feeling very happy. I walked down the road a bit towards some of my favourite shops. “First clothes.” I thought. I went over to some racks of clothes I didn’t even hear the lady come up behind me.
“Buenos Tardes Senorita.” She said with a very friendly and welcoming smile.
“Hola.”
“Como Estas?”
“Muy Bien Gracias, y tu?”
“Bien, Gracias.” She smiled “So how may I help?”
“Oh I’m just looking for some new clothes that are in style.”
She laughed.
“Okay follow me. All of this stuff in this section over here is ‘in’ at the moment.”
“Gracias.” I said
“De nada.” She said as she walked away to leave me to it.
I picked a couple of outfits of the shelf and went and tried them on. One outfit was purple leggings with white stars all over them which went really well with a light blue halter neck dress. I decided to get that outfit. Also flared out blue denim jeans with a pink top and a Roxy jersey. I got a couple of other jeans and leggings and tops, until I thought I had enough and I walked out of the shop with a grin from ear to ear. I still had fifteen minutes until it was time for my haircut so I went and had a hot chocolate in one of the cafes along the side of the street. It was good to take a load of finally and sit down, once again I looked around the café to see if there was anyone I knew but they were all strangers it was like déjà vu. I sat in there for awhile wondering if I had made a mistake to buy all the clothes and to get my hair cut, but then I thought about what people are going to think about me tomorrow at school and I couldn’t wait.
I got up and walked out of the shop and towards the hairdressers which was just across the road.
“Hola.” I said as I walked in.
“Buenos Tardes.” She said back “Are you ready for your haircut?”
“Sure am.”
“Okay follow me this way.”
“Fantastic.”
I sat myself down into the big swifly chair and I was so excited I could hardly sit still.
“What would you like done?”
“Well….” I paused looking at my long blonde hair the went down to my waist. “I won’t it cut to just below my shoulders and a angled fringe across my forehead and also make it layered.”
“Sure anything else?”
“Um no thanks that’s all”
“Ok” she said as she started to get the gear ready.
“Actually,” I said “I would like it dyed brown with blonde streaks please.”
“Sure, ill be right back.”
I couldn’t wait to see what the end product was going to turn out like, and I couldn’t wait to see Eddie and Lilly’s face when they saw me.
The lady came back with the dye in the wheelie tray.
“Ready?” she asked.
“Yup.” I replied.
And she started.
The dye looked really good the colour really suited me I was a brunette now, so no one can make those stupid blonde jokes. I watched as she chopped my hair to my shoulders and made it layered, and then she came round to the front of me and made my angled fringe. When she was all done she grabbed the mirror and put it behind me.
“Good?” she asked me.
“Fantastic.” I replied
“Great.” she said
I stood up and shook the remaining hair of me and walked of to pay.
“That will be $115 dollars.”
“Wow.”
“Is there a problem?” she asked.
“No, no nothing it’s not cheap though is it.”
She laughed “Nothing is these days.”
I handed her over the money.
“Thank-you.” I said as I walked out the door.
“No problem.”
I walked out the door with a new sense of pride and self confidence, I loved my new hair cut and I couldn’t wait for everyone at school to see the new Catherine Hoax.
