I quite like this photo! Instead of doing what a lot of people do and go for the obvious viewpoint, you have kind of shifted the view point and looked at the subject from a different type of angle.
I also like the silhouette effect, I often quite like doing that too. I especially love the silhouetted thistles.
I'm not sure about the composition. You have a huge gap on the right side of the frame and that kind of bothers me. I would have kept your same angle but moved around to the right a bit, so that the thistle would take the left side of the frame and the monument? would take up the right side of the frame.
The way the picture is taken really inspires awe in me. Since you can tell it's a religous figure, looking up at it really has a meaning.
However, I think this could have benified had you exposed it longer (A lot of SLR cameras have the option of adjusting the exposure). That way the statue would be a bit more in focus and not so dark.
If you do not have an SLR camera however, than this is really the best you could do.

The only thing is the sun is directly behind the statue! That's giving it more of an inspirational touch, but if you had turned away from it just a bit, it probably wouldn't have so much glare in it .
The trees are sort of distracting-- not too much, just a little. I do like how the silhouette effect shows, but at the same time you can see the detail in the stone.
Great job! It captures the saintfulness (totally not a word, haha) perfectly.

I didn't really like it to be honest because the most important stuff you wanted to show were in the dark. But I have to say the background was good. Especially the tree. Next time try to pictuer when there is more light.

Actually, i took the picture like that on purpose (?). I wanted to capture the sky behind with the clouds, i thought it was really beautiful. But hey, we don't discuss tastes.
