The sun was peering through the horizon and the air was a little warmer than it was. The sisters had been up all night arguing over ruby and what they were going to do. Madeline wanted to go to wherever ‘Master’ was and kill him. Sarah wanted to kill ruby. And, surprisingly, Rose didn’t know what to do, she was in the middle.
Mary and Xander were asleep from staying up all night and beside them only ash and a few hot embers remained. Madeline saw Xander sleeping, she wondered about what actually happened. It couldn’t have been a coincidence.
Xander started to shiver in short little burst. Madeline could see it and she cast her arm towards the fire.
“Ignitus fuegi” She muttered.
Blue fire poured through her veins and out of her finger tips. It didn’t hurt her though; she was the fire for a moment. She found some nearby branches and pieces of wood that Xander had probably gotten the night before. With her other hand she moved her fingers in a ‘come here’ motion and she levitated them into the fire.
The fire roared up again and this time, it was blue. The new power they had got made them all stronger, Madeline could have never done that without saying a spell first, she knew that. She brought her hands right in front of her and looked at one side and then another.
Still looking at them, flipping them back and forth, she called out to her sisters.
“Rose, Sarah!” she yelled.
“What?” They said, running over to her thinking something was wrong.
“Look.”
She didn’t know exactly what to do so she just flung her arm to the nearest tall boulder. A rumbling sound filled the air followed by a cracking noise. The boulder splintered into a million pieces sending shards at them. It looked like a lot of insects flying towards them. Big ones, small ones, all coming at them. Time seemed slow at the looming threat that was inevitably there. Sarah was about to stop it with her power when Madeline put her hand in the air. She raised it and spread out her fingers. The rocks gathered like a wall before them, floating and slightly moving.
Madeline just looked, they all did.
“How…” Sarah and Rose said.
“I don’t know, try it, try something.” Madeline squealed, sending the rocks far away with a thrust.
“I’ll go first.” Rose said.
She too put out her hand towards a boulder, nothing happened. She looked at Madeline and back at the boulder.
She asked, “How did you do it?”
“I don’t know I told you, which one are doing it to?” Madeline asked back.
She pointed her finger, “That one over there.”
She screamed as she felt like she was being thrown. To her sisters she was invisible, they couldn’t see her. They looked around and stopped when they heard and scream. Rose was atop a fifty foot boulder clasping onto the top, terrified.
“You can teleport!” Madeline yelled.
“Get me down!” she yelled
“You do it, test your new power out!” Madeline grew more exited.
From a distance Madeline could see Rose pointing her finger towards them. She then heard a mumbling of words and then she saw nothing. She heard screams fill the air and she smiled because it was all so new.
Rose landed one Madeline out of nowhere and they both were sent to the ground. Rose started laughing. She never had a power than could be used for action. She was always the ‘stay here and think’ girl, but not anymore.
“Sorry Madeline,” Rose said between laughter. “I guess I’ll have to work on the landing.”
“Okay, but, can you get off of me in the mean- time?”
“Oh,” Rose started laughing again, “I’m just so excited and I feel so free!”
Rose got off of Madeline and they both got up. They looked at Sarah.
“Don’t look at me; I don’t know what to do.” Sarah said.
“Oh, come on, you were the most powerful before, try something!” Rose said.
“Fine,” Sarah said. “How about…”
She snapped her fingers and nothing happened.
“Okay, I’m done.” Sarah pathetically said.
Madeline and Rose just stood there staring.
“What do you mean you’re done?” Madeline asked
“I mean, I don’t want to try anymore!” Sarah said, starting to walk away.
Madeline grabbed her shoulder and stopped her, “Oh, don’t be a fun stopper, try something else.”
No!” Sarah boomed.
Sound waves came from her mouth and smashed into Rose and Madeline knocking them backwards. Sarah’s eyes grew wide in shock.
“Are you okay?” she ran over to where they layed.
They both lay on the ground and covered their ears. Sarah went over to Madeline and made her sit up. She looked into her eyes and started talking. Madeline and Rose stared blankly at her words, they were deaf.
They both started panicking and getting up, as if that would fix it.
“Hold on,” Sarah said, putting her hand in a stopping motion.
“Silence is amber
Silence is here
Turn the deaf
So they shall hear"
Madeline and Rose’s ears glowed yellow and then faded back to their normal colors.
“Can you hear me?” Sarah asked.
“Yeah.” They both said, still rubbing their ears.
“Sarah, that’s really powerful, you should be more careful.” Madeline said
Sarah stared at Madeline, “How was I to know?!”
“Don’t start yelling.” Madeline warned
“You’re being a little unfair, Madeline.” Rose intervened
“Thank-you.” Sarah said.
Madeline looked away and towards Mary and Xander who were, surprisingly, still asleep.
“How could they still be asleep?” Madeline asked.
“What?” Sarah said. “Oh, I forgot they were here!”
“Well, I’ll wake them up.” Madeline said.
“No, let me,” Rose said. “I’ll transport to them!”
“That’s not a good idea; I don’t think we should tell them of our new powers.” Madeline said.
“Why not?” Rose said. “I think we should.”
“I didn’t tell you guys this, but I’m growing a little suspicious of Mary and Xander. Last night I was walking and I didn’t know why. I was walking towards you guys when I just forgot everything, I didn’t know where I was at. I didn’t know why I walking at all. I turned around to see Xander standing by the fire facing my way. I asked him about it and he said he didn’t know what I was talking about and that the new powers were messing with me.”
Sarah and Rose looked at Madeline like she was crazy.
“They are our protectors Madeline, they wouldn’t hurt us.” Rose said
“Wouldn’t they?” Madeline said. “Where have they been all of our lives if they were? What about when
we almost died in that cave? They didn’t help us. I think we should imprison them in an orb.”
“Okay, now I know you’re crazy.” Sarah said. “I think you need some more sleep.”
“No, I don’t.” Madeline yelled. “Just listen to me, I have a hunch. Who are you going to side with,
someone we’ve just met and say they are here to protect us, or you own sister?”
“Madeline might be right Sarah.” Rose said.
“So it’s settled then.” Madeline said facing Mary and Xander with her arm out.
She looked at her sisters and they knew what to do.
“By the power of three.” They all said.
Green, Blue, and Red lights engulfed Mary and Xander and then expanded into an orb of swirling colors. Ruby, by then had awoke and was pounding on the force field.
The sisters let their arms down and stared at Ruby.
“It’s about time you put those murderers in a force field, they were going to kill you soon.” Ruby said.
Sarah, Rose and Madeline looked at her and then to the still sleeping ‘Protectors’.
“What do you mean Ruby, kill us? Rose said.
“Just that dear Rosie, they were going to kill you, didn’t you know?” Ruby said, her eyes rose in question.
“How do you know?” Rose said.
“How didn’t you know?” Ruby asked
“Tell me!” Rose yelled
“Fine, I heard them when you guys were all sleeping, they had it all planned out. Madeline almost caught them but then Xander pulled one of his tricks and made her forget. You should have trusted her.”
Sarah and Rose looked at Madeline, and then hugged her.
“We’re sorry Madeline, we should have trusted you.” Rose said
“It’s fine, but what do we do with Mary and Xander?” Madeline asked
“I know just what to do.” Sarah glared.
