Two years, four months, eight days, fifteen hours, eleven minutes and nine seconds before that moment was the time that I first experienced the horror that is death. Normally, my cat, Twix, would be waiting for be at seven O’clock every morning for breakfast. I loved Twix so much, and spoilt her rotten. Of course, by the time I was twelve I didn’t get up on weekends until nine or ten O’clock. Anyway, on that Saturday I went downstairs and didn’t find her, which was odd, but no cause for panic. I had my breakfast and waited for a while, then I went to the loo and searched the house. I looked in every room but she wasn’t there. Not under the beds, or in the bath or anywhere. We always blocked when we went to sleep just in case. I remembered reminding Chris to do it when I went to bed, leaving him to watch some T.V. He had forgotten and I rushed outside in my pyjamas, only to find Twix around the block. A fox had attacked her, but a woman crouching next to her had shooed it away. It had got her in the leg, so it wasn’t very visible, but she lost a lot of blood very quickly and the person sat next to her had been there for an hour, crying. I hugged her in thanks for helping my precious Twix, borrowed a towel from her house across the road and taken her corpse away. I didn’t want to make my family sad, so I hurried home and buried her. It was a shocking and awful experience, so I hid it from my family. Of course, it wasn’t before long that they also realised that she wasn’t coming back. My mum started to blame Chris, but I shouted at her. They all knew that there was nobody closer to Twix than I, and so my word was final, even though I was the youngest. I never tried to pretend to myself that I hadn’t buried the real Twix and that she would return one day, meowing at me for food.

Now she could come back. I wasn’t sure what would happen to her, or whether I would have to keep her a secret due to her injuries. I could only hope that she hadn’t become all pale and lost her hair, but I wouldn’t let that stop me. I got to the door and fished my keys out of my pocket, and I opened the door. I closed it as silently as I could and hurried through the house and into the garden. I came out and stood on my patio, which led onto a decking covering where grass once was. On the edge of the garden were various plants including ferns and matted bushes on the fence, which mum and my neighbour had given up on trimming. I remembered the sad fact that we only got the decking because Twix kept on making excrement (to use the child friendly word) on the grass, so we couldn’t walk on it. Twix was at the back of the garden, just next to mums’ largest fern, which she had even named Peggy. I never knew why she called it Peggy, but it was her plant so I didn’t mind. I crouched down next to the bush and frowned. I still couldn’t remember if there was any knack to performing the reincarnation act.
“Reynald, can you come out please?” He asked. He was suddenly squatting next to me.
“You’re powerful, Logan. You can already command yourself which graveyard to use. That took Aage a very long time indeed. Is it a family pet?” I nodded, unable to speak. He proceeded anyway.
“Soon, you may even be able to command me to change shape…I wonder…” He mused.
“Can you just teach me how to save Twix?” I begged, tears glistening on my cheeks, which I didn’t bother to stop.
“Very well. Step back, Logan. Good, good. Now, raise your arms and look up at the sky. You need to will the clouds to form, so concentrate.” He added. I squinted at the sky, trying to envision clouds. Dark, heavy clouds. I pleaded at the sky.
“Please, give me Twix, give me Twix, Twix, Twix, Twix!” Every time I said the name I got louder, until I was roaring it. Suddenly, I felt a rush to my head, and there was a flash. I stood by ground as the bolt of life crashed into the earth at an incredibly speed. It went straight through Peggy, but did nothing visible. It died down and I bent over, catching my breath. I looked up at where Twix was buried and saw a paw, stuck out of the ground. I stepped forwards, clasped it gently and pulled, pulled out my beautiful Twix. I pulled her close hugging and stroking her like a mad man. I had done it. I saved Twix!

She was in a bad way. She could walk fine, despite the bone showing through her leg, which I tried not to look at. I found that I could also give her orders, so I brought her up into my room on the third floor of my house, which I had all to myself, plus a bathroom. I never realised how lucky I was until I saw Twix again. But her hair was all gone, and there was no way that my parents would be able to see her. I was so happy that I didn’t even notice Reynald leaning against the wall. He suddenly spoke up.
“I have never seen a necromancer grow in power so quickly.” He paused, waiting for a response, but I was too preoccupied.
“In fact, I am wondering just how strong you already are. You see, a strong necromancer can order the dead to do anything. The stronger you are, the more rules you can break. Like shape changing.”
He had my eyes and ears now.
“Go on,” I prompted.
“Maybe you can restore Twix. And me, if you want to, that is.” He added hastily. I was amazed.
“Of course I’d do it to you. Then I wouldn’t have to hide you all the time. But what about Twix? Can I fix her?” I babbled in excitement. He raised a hand.
“Maybe, maybe not. You’ve only had your powers for two days, so it might be a while before you can reintroduce Twix into your family life. I caught my heart mid beat. I had been hoping just to have Twix around, but to have her in normal life, as a normal cat again. I was unconsciously beaming at the thought.
“How do I do it?” I asked after a moment of thought.
“It’s not how that you need to ask, its: Can I do it? All you have to do is find the power inside you somewhere. I can’t climb inside you to help, you must do it.” I nodded at him, and then placed my hands on Twix, who sat down obediently. I shut my eyes, trying to search for something, deep inside my brain, slowly unlocking the doors into my deeper thoughts and feelings, looking desperately for the power. I stayed like that, unmoving, for many minutes, trying as hard as possible. I sighed. I didn’t have it. I heard Reynald copy me and slump onto the floor. I was withdrawing from my head, just about to open my eyes when…
“There it is!” I cried, summoning up every last drop of the power I had found. I pulled Twix in close and hugged her tight, letting my power blast into her like a raging white waterfall. I could feel her changing, becoming bigger and stronger, and her old grandeur returning. My eyelids glowed white and I let them fall open. I had to blink a few times to clear my vision and then I looked at her, and she was normal. I just looked at my Twix and began to cry. I heard footsteps on the stairs and motioned at Reynald, unable to talk. He stepped into me as the door opened, and Chris, who had heard me shouting, stepped in. He saw Twix and did nothing for a moment and then he knelt down and looked at her collar. Then we sat together and cried with relief, and joy.

Not as long as the other chapters, I know, but I could merge this chapter and the next chapter. Tell me what you think once you've read the next one. As always, all comments are greatly appreciated, good or bad :)
