Chapter 1: Oldie… What kind of name is that?!

“I-I really don’t want to step in that portal.” Marcia stepped away from the portal.
“Come on! The tournament is about to start!” I took Marcia’s hand and dragged her into the portal. The portal led to the world of Oldie… or at least that’s what everyone at school calls it. No one knows what the actual name of the world is. It all started a century ago; some scientists found a portal leading to a world where everyone has abandoned it. The world looked like ancient Japan, hence the name. Everyone bought a lot of clothes that would fit in a world like this, everyone, that is, except Marcia. Marcia has never been in Oldie before, so she wears whatever she always wore. Marcia has black straight hair, glasses, and wears a jacket that is too big for her, and a long skirt. When I go in, I change into a sleeveless dark blue shirt and a furry vest, then I pull my long brown hair back into a ponytail, which is in for boys, and put fake earrings on my right ear. I bought tickets for the tournament.
“Shawn? Is that an Ecnadlewej?” Marcia asked as a lady with jewelry on her neck, feet, and wrists walked by.
“No. She’s a Dancer. The monsters she summons from her jewels are Ecnadlewej.” I sighed, envying the lady. Only girls can become Dancers. I have always wanted to be a Dancer ever since the same scientists that found the portal found the Ecnadlewej jewel. I looked for my seat as Marcia looked around the huge stadium; her eyes flashed to the brown arena that seemed so far away. I tugged on Marcia’s jacket. “The tournament’s about to start. Sit down!”
“Hello everyone. ARE YOU READY TO RUMBLE?!?” the announcer asked as the crowd roared. “The first person to fight is…” Everyone sat at the tip of their seats. “Nature Dancer vs. Night Dancer!” Nature Dancer! I thought excitingly. Nature Dancer is my hero. She has the most awesome pets and she’s very pretty! She has blond hair with red on the tips that reaches down to her ribs with her hair bounded with white cloth. She wears a dark red sleeveless shirt and gloves, which reaches two inches below her shoulder to her hand. Her pants are green, her socks are blue, and she has yellow shoes and a bracelet on each arm, a necklace and an anklet on one of her feet. Firepaw, an Ecnadlewej, sat on her shoulder. Somehow, Nature Dancer could control an Ecnadlewej without needing a jewel. If an Ecnadlewej was too strong for you to control, which is what the crystal on the Dancer’s neck, feet, ect., helps you control, then the Ecnadlewej could kill you instead. I looked at Night Dancer as she walked into the stadium. Her silver bangs nearly covered her face and her ponytail reached down to her hip. She wore a black cloak with a black dress that had stars imprinted on it. She wore a headband, a necklace, a bracelet on each hand, and an anklet on each of her bare foot.
“On your mark!” the announcer yelled, “GET SET!”

Chapter 2: OMG! Nature Dancer!

“On your mark!” the announcer yelled, “Get Set! FIGHT!”
“Tickets,” a ticket taker said, stepping in front of me. I searched everywhere frantically so I wouldn’t miss the show. Marcia gave him the ticket. “Sir, do you have a ticket?”
“I had one, but now I can’t find it.”
“No ticket, no show. Follow me young man.” Marcia looked at me sadly. I glared at the ticket boy. Aren’t you the same age as me? I thought bitterly. I stood right outside waiting for the tournament to end.

It felt like years until the tournament ended. A fat lady wearing a red sparkling dress came by, I noticed her from earlier, when Marcia asked about Ecnadlewej.
“Boy, you’re in the way.” The lady pushed me against the wall.
“ Jerk,” I whispered.
“ I heard that! Peppy, SIC HIM!” The fat lady shook her right hand and a small Chihuahua came out and attacked me. I slammed the ugly Chihuahua against the floor.
“Oy! Do not be rude to my Señorita, bud!” the Chihuahua growled as foams of spit fell out of his mouth, then the Chihuahua barked in Spanish at me. I rubbed my arm where the ugly dog bit me. I hope I didn’t get rabies, I thought.
“Don’t attack the civilian Rich Dancer. You know better than that,” a woman’s voice said calmly.
“Hmph.” The fat lady, known as Rich Dancer, strutted away, letting the Chihuahua get back into his Ecnadlewej Crystal.
“I’m sorry for that. Are you hurt?” I turned around to face the lady.
“N-Nature Dancer!” I stuttered. There she was, standing right in front of me. At first my mouth wouldn’t do anything, than I went blabbering off in one breath, “Oh, yes! Yes I’m fine. I never thought that you would be here. Here in front of me is what I want, I mean meant. I always wanted to be a Dancer. I want to be just like you. You’re my hero you know. I’m so sorry, I’m very nervous. I'm so sorry for saying so much. Like one time, hold on, there wasn’t a one time, because I didn’t have a hero standing right in front of me.” I breathed in, out of breath.
“You want to be a Dancer?” she asked.
“Oh yes, certainly yes.”
“You would be the first boy to be a Dancer.”
“I know… hold on, are you saying I could be a Dancer?” She smiled
“Yes. The rules say in order to be a Dancer you have to: 1. Have a Dance Master, and 2. You’ve worked with animals before.
“I have a dog, but I don’t have a master.”
“And that’s where I come in.” I felt my heart accelerate.
“Y-you?”
“Well, first we need to get your Ecnadlewej.”

Chapter 3: Finding my Ecnadlewej. Which one should I pick?

The shop we stood in front of was called “Ecnadlewej Crystals”. We went inside the shop. I saw a lot of Dancers there.
“In order to find your Ecnadlewej, you need to find a name for yourself, New Dancer.” I looked at Nature Dancer. When you haven’t beaten one Dancer, you’re called a New Dancer. Once you beat a Dancer, you announce to everyone what your name would be. No one knew any of the Dancers’ real names. They always kept it a secret. So Nature Dancer would never know my name as Shawn. I thought for awhile of what name I would be called once I win.
“Animal Dancer.” Nature Dancer looked at me then smiled and went up to a young girl at the counter.
“Animal Ecnadlewej, please.”
“Nature Dancer,” the girl at the counter squeaked with a high voice, “I thought you had all your Ecnadlewej!”
“No, for him.” She pointed at me. “All I need is for you to change this anklet into a ring.” Nature Dancer handed squeaky voice girl her anklet. Squeaky voice girl gave it to another girl.
“So you’re being a Dancer?” squeaky voice girl asked, “My name’s Amy. Here’s all of our Animal Ecnadlewej.” After awhile, I picked an Ecnadlewej that looked like a fat pig with a snowflake on the sides and a crown and beads, an octopus with a hat, a fat black cat standing up right, and a yellow bird.
“What’s that egg?” I asked Amy
“Oh, that’s a surprise snake egg, so you don’t know what kind of snake it would become. Sometimes it’s a big snake we don’t sell.” I nodded, took the card and then asked for the jewels. By then, Nature Dancer had arrived with a ring.
“Name them and chose the gender, but first, let Amy tell you their powers.”
“The fat pig uses ice, the octopus uses gasses, the cat breathes in anything and can either swallow it or spit it back out, and the bird uses wind.” I took the fat pig, after hearing that, and decided to name them.
“Ms. Piggy, girl.” Then the octopus. “Gassey, boy.” Then the cat. “Fat Cat, boy” Then the bird. “Beak Wind, boy.
“You can’t say what gender the egg is,” Amy told me.
“Snake,” I called the egg, paused and said, “I want to carry it, without the jewel.”
“Summon it and put the crystal into your pocket.” I did exactly that. “ Fire Paw respects me, so he does what I tell him to do, but he can do whatever he likes to do.”
“Make Ms. Piggy a ring, Gassey a bracelet, Fat Cat another bracelet, and Beak Wind a necklace,” I told Amy as I held on to the big snake egg.
“You? A Dancer?” Rich Dancer went towards us.
Not her again! I gave her a death glare.
“Oh Nature Dancer! You’re being this boy’s master? I thought you worked alone!”
“It’s kind of funny how much older you are from me, and yet I’m on a higher level then you,” Nature Dancer shot back. Most of the Dancers in the store giggled at this. Rich Dancer growled then strutted out of the store. A girl from behind the counter gave Nature Dancer a belt with a huge jewel on the middle of it.
“It’s for you.” Nature Dancer handed it to me. I put it on and gave a questioning look at Nature Dancer. “It’s to say you’re a Dancer, all Dancers have one.” Nature Dancer showed me her gloves. Each had a jewel on it. “Do you see the difference? Look closer.” There was a fancy D on one and nothing on the other. “The initials are a J and a D, got it?” I nodded.
“Choose your weapons.” Amy took out some weapons. “In a fight, Dancers can fight each other with weapons or their Ecnadlewej.” I took the curved sword that had a moon carved on it and a pair of wings. Nature Dancer paid for everything and we walked out. I shivered with joy at the thought of being a Dancer.

Chapter 4: Marcia? Where are you?

Marcia didn’t speak as we walked back to the portal, leading to Earth.
“I’m sorry for forgetting you. I just got excited to become a Dancer.”
“I’m not hurt that you forgot me, but I was scared that you were mad at me for watching the tournament without you,” Marcia whispered. I laughed.
“Don’t be stupid. I’m not mad at you.” We jumped through the portal and walked home.
“See you tomorrow,” Marcia whispered.
“Yeah! See you!” Marcia smiled at me.

It’s been two days since I’ve become a Dancer. Everyday I’ve trained with Nature Dancer. Once I had Fat Cat eat Fire Paw’s fire. Fire Paw got so mad, he attacked Fat Cat. I guess what Nature Dancer said about him doing everything, was true. Now school ended and Marcia has been ignoring me.
“Hey Marcia!” I ran towards her when I spotted her in the hall, but she ran off for the fifth time today. Victoria, the “Hottest” girl in the school, stepped right in my way.
“Can’t you leave that poor girl to herself?” Victoria asked in an irritated voice. I growled and walked to the portal. I hopped into Oldie and went to where I met Nature Dancer.
“I signed you into a tournament already. It is tomorrow.” The phrase brought my spirits up. I trained for the rest of the day.

I walked through the halls of my school with my head down. Two people stood in front of me. I looked up and saw Marcia, even though she was hiding her face, hiding behind Victoria.
“Go on. Go talk to him.” Victoria pushed Marcia. My eyes were wide open and my chin dropped. Marcia was… what’s the word? Beautiful! Her glasses were gone; she wore a headband, a skirt that touched her knees, and high heel boots with black socks.
“M-Marcia you l-look,” I paused. Marcia looked at me. “Beautiful!” Marcia blushed.
“She did it for you,” Victoria told me. Marcia blushed even harder. I smiled. I’m so glad Marcia wasn’t mad at me for forgetting her the other day. She was just embarrassed for showing me.
“Marcia? I have a tournament today, I want you to watch.”

Chapter 5: Oh crud! I don’t wanna fight her!!!

I checked over all my Ecanadlewej in a small room. Since I was the only boy, I was put into a small room, to keep the boys and girls apart.
“New Dancer, it’s time to go,” a man told me. I went out by the hole that leads to the field.
“Well well, looks like we have a New Dancer, and not only that, it’s a boy!” the announcer told the crowd. I stepped out onto the field as the crowd clapped.
“Boy, you’re fighting…” the second announcer started, then paused, chuckled, and finished, “NIGHT DANCER!” I nearly died of fright. Night Dancer stepped out.
Of all the Dancers, why her? I didn’t even see how she fought! I gulped.
“The rules are just like Pokemon, except you can fight Dancer with Dancer whenever you like. In order to win, you either beat all the Ecnadlewej from your opponent, or beat your opponent without killing her, uh… or him. Dancers, take out your first Ecnadlewej.”
“Scorpio,” Night Dancer said expressionless. A huge dark red, I would say the color burgundy, scorpion jumped out.
Scorpio’s element is earth… right? I thought. “Gassey!”
“Deadly Sting.” Scorpio charged with his stinger up
“Gassing Ink!” A cloud of black smoke came out of Gassey’s mouth. Then I said, “Cutting Water Hat!” I heard a splattering noise as the hat collided into Scorpio’s head. I smiled.
“Claw Slap.”
What? Didn’t I kill it?
“Silly boy, didn’t you know Scorpio is a water type?” I thought quickly what to make Gassey do.
“Tentacle Block!” Gassey’s tentacles grabbed onto Scorpio’s claws, tail, and head. “Killing Hug!” Gassey squeezed Scorpio until Gassey felt Scorpio’s pulse stop. Scorpio then disappeared into the jewel on Night Dancer’s necklace. If the Ecnadlewej is too tired or dead, they go back into your crystal, which heals or resurrect them once they are inside. Expressionless, Night Dancer shook her right hand.
“Taurus.” A huge green bull came out, snorting like crazy. “Charge.” Taurus charged with his head down.
“Gassing Ink!” Another puff of black smoke came pouring out of Gassey’s “o” mouth.
“Taurus doesn’t need to see, he just charges forward.” I gasped. Everyone knew how slow Gassey was when he’s on land. I saw Gassey flying out in the sky, then crashing to the ground. “Crushing Blow.” Taurus slammed his huge body onto Gassey’s limp body. Gassey went back into my crystal.
“Fat Cat!”
“Roses.” Taurus blew out spiky roses.
“Suck and Spit!” Fat Cat sucked the roses into his mouth and blew it back out to Taurus. It didn’t hurt Taurus, of course. “Suck and Spit! This time, aim for Night Dancer.” Fat Cat, who used to go only up to my knees, sucked Taurus in his mouth, became as big as Taurus, and spit him towards Night Dancer. Night Dancer, in a blink of an eye, took out her ax and cut Taurus in half. Taurus, both of him, went back into the crystal.
“Cancer.” Cancer was, of course, water style. The huge silver crab came out, riding a bubble. “Claw Strike.” Cancer rode full speed towards Fat Cat. Fat Cat tried to waddle out of the way.
“Suck and Sp…” I couldn’t finish, Cancer had cut Fat Cat’s head off. Fat Cat went back into his crystal. “Ms. Piggy,” I whispered. Ms. Piggy came out, snorting at the crab. “Ice Blast! Freeze the bubble!” What looked like water came out of her mouth, once it hit the bubble, it turned into ice. The bubble fell to the ground and crashed. Cancer scuttled around a bit slower than before, but was still pretty fast.
“Sleeping Powder.” Cancer reared back his whole body, showing his soft belly, seeing my chance, I yelled,
“Ice Blast!” Ms. Piggy spit her ice towards Cancer. Cancer froze with his belly showing. “Charge!” Ms. Piggy charged towards Cancer, her tusk smashing through the ice, into Cancer’s belly. Falling on the ground then went back into his crystal.
“Capricorn.” Night Dancer looked a bit mad. I smiled. There is no way Capricorn could beat Ms. Piggy. A brown goat with a tail fin looked at us. Capricorn was another water style Ecnadlewej.
“Ice Blast!” Ms. Piggy, yet again, spit her ice. The ice went towards Capricorn
“Earth Particles.” Capricorn slammed one of his hoofs down and a part of the ground flew up, keeping Capricorn safe.
“Capricorn is earth style.” Night Dancer was pretty good.
“Charge!” Ms. Piggy charged towards Capricorn.
“Man Eater.” A green vine wrapped Ms. Piggy’s body. A bud grew really fast from the vine, turning into a huge Venus flytrap. Ms. Piggy squealed and struggled.
“Mmm,” the huge Venus flytrap exclaimed, “bacon.” and swallowed Ms. Piggy whole. A light flew back into the crystal.
“Beak Wind! Tornado Attack!” Beak Wind first turned slowed, then went faster and faster. A tornado formed, going towards Capricorn. The Venus flytrap flew into the tornado, and so did Capricorn. “Deadly Beak!” I waited a while, then saw Capricorn, covered in blood, and flew back into his crystal.
“This is her last Ecnadlewej!” one of the announcers said.
“Leo. Swallow.” A golden lion roared at me. Leo ran towards Beak Wind and ate him. I saw Beak Wind’s spirit go back to his crystal.
“G-give me the egg,” I told one of the guy’s that took care of Snake. I held the egg. “It’s time for you to hatch.” I saw a crack on the egg. Out came… a small girl snake with a bow? The audience laughed.
“Doesn’t he know that kind of snake is the weakest?” one man asked.
“Stupid boy, trying his luck,” a lady snorted.
“I believe you, Snake,” I whispered to her. Snake wrapped herself around my arm. I didn’t know what attack she had!
“Run towards that lion!” I heard a voice inside my head. Snake was starring at me.
She’s talking to me in my head! I thought
“Yes I am! Now go!” I ran full speed with my arm, where Snake is, towards Leo. Night Dancer seemed to understand, because she took out a bracelet and put it on Leo’s paw. Leo became bigger and stronger than before.
“What I just gave Leo is a Fast Grower. Before, Leo was just a kid, know he’s full grown,” Night Dancer explained.
“That doesn’t matter! Keep running!” I ran right into Leo’s paw. “Get your wings on!” I put on my wings. “Fly towards the Fast Grower.” I had to dodge the gigantic beast’s paw. Once I got to the Fast Grower, Snake grabbed it with her mouth, took it off Leo, and put it on herself. She grew bigger and heavier. I fell onto the ground. Leo was the size of a lion, while Snake was as big as a Brontosaurus. Snake gobbled up Leo, and that was the end of the tournament. Night Dancer took her Fast Grower back from Snake.
“You’re pretty good,” Night Dancer commented. I pretty much beamed. Snake crawled back to my arm.
“Shawn!” Marcia ran up to me.
“Shh! You can’t call me that! I’m now Animal Dancer!” I shouted out the last part. The crowd yelled “Animal Dancer” over and over again.
“You did a good job. Today I went to the end of this town and a couple of Dancer guards told me not to go any farther. Do you know any of that?” I shook my head “No”.
What a mystery! I thought
“ What a mystery indeed.” Snake hissed in my head.

Chapter 6: Wow! A mission?

“The Mayor needs us?” I exclaimed to Nature Dancer.
“Yes.” Nature Dancer, Night Dancer, and me have been called to the Mayor’s office.
“In here.” Night Dancer opened the door to a tall building. I went in and saw many doors.
“We won’t be using the elevators since we’re Dancer’s. We’re strong enough to go up all these stairs.” Nature Dancer waved towards the stairs. I gawked at all the stairs. There must be at least 50 levels, and the Mayor’s office is at the top floor.

We’ve arrived at the last floor. Fine, I was exaggerating a bit. There weren’t 50 levels; there were only 34. I gasped for air while Nature Dancer and Night Dancer didn’t even break a sweat. We entered the Mayor’s office. There he was, the short mayor, sitting in his chair, his little baldhead shone. White tufts of hair grew on the sides of his head and he had a bushy white mustache.
“I’ve called you Dancers for the sake of this world,” the Mayor began with a high voice. “We have found a princess from the other world. Most people know it as Oldie, anyway, she says that someone is trying to catch her. If this ‘someone’ finds she’s here, they will attack this world. Some Dancers guard the outside world, where no human has explored, that is where she’s from. I’m sending Nature Dancer and Night Dancer to fight this ‘someone’ in the outside world while I give Animal Dancer a solo mission.” I didn’t know if I should feel happy or sad. I’m glad I get a solo mission, but I can’t be with Nature Dancer. “Animal Dancer will guard the princess. She’s in one of our school right now, but I seemed to misplace the paper to tell where she is.”
“How about what she looks like?” I asked.
“I misplaced her picture.”
“The Mayor is kind of forgetful,” Nature Dancer whispered in my ear.
“But you can’t miss her. She has cat ears and a cat’s tail. Her name is Neko Niigata.”
“That sounds like Japanese.” I jumped at the sound of Snake’s voice in my head.
“I’m her guardian?”
“Yes.” The Mayor smiled.

Chapter 7: Finding Neko Niigata. This is too hard!

“My name, my name is…” the new girl trailed off. She stared into space
“Your name?” the teacher urged.
“Why does it matter?” New girl asked.
Fine then, I’ll just call her Newbie.
“Something about her makes me feel… feel like she’s not human.” Snake shivered. The new girl wore some kind of uniform and a bandanna over her head. Her skirt was really long, touching the floor. Her eyes were sad looking and her black hair waved freely behind her back touching below her waist.
“What kind of uniform is that?” I asked Marcia, who sat behind me.
“It’s a Japanese Uniform.”
“Well, what should we call you, anyone with an idea?” the teacher asked the class.
“How about Newbie?” I yelled.
“Is that fine with you?” the teacher turned to Newbie. Newbie shrugged. “Okay, this is Newbie, class. You can sit by Shawn for now.” Newbie went over to the desk. Something caught my eyes. Something about her ears, wait, she doesn’t have any ears! I gulped.
I can’t wait for school to end, I thought.

“Wow! A mission? Serious?” Marcia asked at the end of school.
“Yeah. I have to find the princess, but I don’t know where she is.”
“Maybe she’s the new girl,” Snake suggested.
“But the princess has ears, that girl doesn’t!”
“I can’t look for her with you today, I have to go home, my mom is sick.” Marcia, not hearing my conversation with Snake, headed home. I turned the corner and almost crashed into Newbie.
“Ow! You’re stepping on my tail!” she yelped.
“Oh! Sorry. Hold on… tail?” I moved my foot. Sure enough, there was a little black stub of a tail sticking out of her skirt. I grabbed her bandanna and ripped it off her head. Two black feline ears stuck up. In a second, Newbie, now Neko Niigata crouched in a fighting stance and hissed.
“No survivors should know my secret.”
“Neakoo Niegaata?” I sounded out her name. She stared at me with surprise, then stood up and corrected me.
“It’s Neko Niigata. Are you the Dancer that’s suppose to take me back to my homeland?”
“Yes. My name is Animal Dancer. When shall we leave?”
“I will stay with you until you are ready.” I had to show her to my parents? Last time I told them I was a Dancer they got over excited.
“ Why don’t you stay here. I’ll be right back.”

I ran out of my house. It took one whole hour to get my weapons, some food, and put on my clothes. I should have known my parents would have asked me to bring a whole suitcase when I didn’t need anything else! I ran back to where Neko was. She stood there still, her ears on alert. Once she heard me, she turned around super fast and jumped really high, landing on a 2-story fence behind her.
“Oh. It’s just you.” She jumped back down. “Let’s go.” Neko put back her bandanna and we ran to the portal, ran through the portal, and towards the gate.
“Who are you?” one of the Dancer Guards asked. Neko took off her bandanna to show them her ears.
“This is your clothes,” the other Dancer told her, handing her some clothes. Neko went into a dark space that was by the gate and changed quickly. When she came back, she wore a skirt that let her tail through, boots, and other things I can’t explain. The Dancers let us through. I looked at Neko, and she nodded her head for us to go. We ran through, my heart secretly hopping to get there safely.

Chapter 8: Protecting Princess Neko (OK… let’s try our best NOT to die).

“You know,” Snake thought, picking up a stick that I dropped, “you shouldn’t pick up too many sticks, and most of them are too wet to burn.” I tried to balance all the sticks as I walked.
“But we need them for the fire.” Snake sighed
“Maybe I should find the sticks, while you stay with Princess Neko?”
“Why do you keep calling her that? Anyway, we have all the sticks we need.” I stumbled into our campsite, where Neko was staying. I put all the sticks down and went towards the tent.
“Who is it?” Neko asked once she heard my footsteps outside the tent.
“Sha-- I mean Animal Dancer.” Snake took the sticks and made a fire. We had one tent, so Neko slept in it and I slept outside. Neko came out and sat by the fire. The sun had already went down.
“I noticed that our taiyo goes down faster then yours.” She stared at the setting sun, or taiyo, for a minute longer. Snake came slithering up my arm. “I noticed your snake earlier. Those kinds of snakes are very smart and beautiful. They only talk to their owners through their mind. My sister has one.”
“So your people are Dancers also!”
“No. They don’t use jewels like you do. They pretty much do what you did with your snake.” I mouthed the word “wow”.
“Why don’t you have any… of these things?” I pointed a finger at Snake.
“Because I’m too young.” I nodded my head to show understanding. We sat in front of the fire for a little while.
“Well, you should get some sleep. I’ll keep watch from out here.” We both stood up at the same time. “Good night.” I smiled at her. She took a few steps towards the tent, then stopped. I opened my mouth to say something, but got cut off when Neko put a finger to her mouth. I gulped. She must have heard something.
“Good ears as always, Neko,” a deep voice came from a bush.

Chapter 9: The Voice and his Army. Someone help us!

“Boy, give us back our princess.” I looked at Neko as she looked at me. She looked scared, no, frightened.
“Who’s out there?” I yelled.
“Neko, you have found someone that is smart, typical of you,” the voiced chuckled. “Let me show you my right-hand-man.” A lady with horse ears, long black hair, and a horse: tail, feet, and hand, stepped out. She wore all black, with no sleeves and had a butterfly tattoo on her right arm. But her face was what caught my attention. She had a scar on her left cheek, an eye patch on her left eye, and a scar that made an X, I imagined, on her left eye.
“Uma!” Neko gasped. By the look of it, this Voice isn’t from Neko’s village.
“Boy, what are you? Part monkey?” Uma asked.
“I’m a human.”
“So does that make me a huwomen?” Laughter came from everywhere. All of a sudden, yellow eyes glowed in the forest around us. The phrase Uma just said made me lost it.
“You don’t know anything, you stupid horse!” Uma’s expression changed. Her smile turned to a scowl. She got ready to charge her muscles tensed.
“Uma, it won’t be fun to fight them when they are tired, now would it?” the voice asked her.
“You lucky brat. I’ll let you off for now.” Uma turned and ran off into the forest. Footsteps, then nothing.
“We’re fine for now,” Neko sighed.
“Why did they want you in the first place?”
“I’m the youngest, nothing to guard me, and they want to bargain me for my village, since they’re the most royalty. They’re all feline; not one is another animal. I’m really tired, I’m going to sleep.” Neko went into her tent. I slumped onto the ground and fell asleep.
Chapter 10: Neko’s Village. Is this Oldie2?

“Wake up! I went on a walk this morning and saw a river that led to my village! We can just ride down that river and get there now!” Neko was talking, but my eyelids refused to open. “If you don’t wake up then I will have to push you.” I felt my body being pushed, with every push, Neko grunted. After awhile, I heard water rushing, then shove. Water splashed over my face. I heard Neko jump in. I floated there, never opening my eyes. I heard commotion.
“It’s Princess Neko! Get her to Princess Raion and Princess Tora!”
“Is that boy dead?” I was being dragged on to land.
“Just slap him, he’s just tired.” Was that Neko? Next thing I knew, I heard a slap, my eyes flapped open and pain went all over my face. I sat up groaning, holding my right cheek. Faces stared at me. They all had different feline ears and tails. Neko stood up and started to walk away. I scrambled onto my feet and followed. The village I went into looked just like Oldie. We went all the way down to a big house and a big gate. Neko stopped and looked at it. All of a sudden, a blur of yellow crashed into Neko.

Chapter 11: Meeting the family. No comment.
“Neko!” I shouted.
“Neko! You’re home!” A girl was on Neko’s back.
“Raion? What are you doing?” Neko giggled. Raion, where did I hear that?
“Who’s that? He’s not one of us.” The girl, known as Raion, pointed at me.
“That’s my bodyguard.” Raion had a dress with her straps showing and fish nets with black high-heeled boots. She had short black hair like Neko, lion ears and a lion tail. Her eyes were just like a cat and two long canine teeth stuck out of her mouth. A snake was curled around her right arm. This must be Neko’s sister.
“Scare her half to death, Raion,” a voice came from behind me. I whipped around to see who it was. It was a lady with sweet eyes wearing a red Kimono with black hair that reached her ribs. She had tiger ears and a tiger tail. A fairy sat on her shoulder.
“Jeez Tora, can’t you ever give your sister a loving welcome?” Raion joked.
“You must be a Dancer.” Tora turned to me, ignoring Raion.
“How did you know that?” I asked.
“Oh, I did some research on the humans that moved into the old abandoned village.” Raion looked at my arm; she was staring at Snake.
“You should meet my dobutsus Sunny, Devil Baby, Hebi, and Hachurui,” Raion introduced. Sunny, I presumed, was a muscular body with a smiling sun head. Devil Baby was a fury werewolf wearing a diaper. Hebi was the snake around her arm. Hachurui is the smiling blond girl wearing a black scarf and a green dress.
“Yes, this is my dobutsus. Fairy, Owlet, Imp, and Hakucho.” I looked at Fairy in more detailed. She had two black buns on the side of her head, dark eyes, impressive blue and green wings, and a blue dress. Owlet is an barn owl with a face of a blushing girl, her mouth always an O. Imp is a hairy round ball with angel wings and teeth that sticks out. Hakucho is a young girl dressed all in white, wearing princess clothes and white gloves. She wore orange high-heeled shoes and white crown and had white hair. Her face was a bit frightening. She had black lipstick on and her eyes made her look like she was blind.
“Maybe my bodyguard, Animal Dancer can show you his dobutsus,” Neko suggested.
“My dough bu sus?”
“Your Ecnadlewej.”
“Oh, uh… this is Snake, and I have Beak Wind, Gassey, Fat Cat, and Ms. Piggy.” I summoned each one.
“I must say, humans have dobutsus also?” a new voice said behind me. I swung around to face a lady wearing ninja clothes. “Hi, I’m Ningyo Kao. You can call me Dolly. I work for this village, working as a spy to Inuka.”
Chapter 12: The Short Story of Inuka & Dolly. Who’s Dolly behind the mask?

“Let me tell you a story about Inuka, darling,” Dolly began. “Inuka is the captain of the dogs, captain of me.”
“You’re a dog!” I exclaimed, cutting Dolly off. Dolly ignored me.
“Any ways, Inuka, hates cats and seeks to destroy all. He plans to bargain Neko so that her sisters will surrender, and he can kill all of them. Last night he changed his plan. He’s planning to fight the human.” My eyes went wide.
“Can I use a room for tonight?” I asked Neko.
“Just go in the front door and go down the hall to the first door on your right.” I followed her directions and slumped in the bed to worry.

Chapter 13: The Wizard, The Guard, The Knight, and The Princess (with karate skills).

“So, Shawn or Shane, are you scared?” Raion asked.
“Y-yeah,” I was confused. How did she know my name?
“That’s fine Shawn, we’ll help you fight the others, but you have to fight Inuka.” Tora patted my back. I sat at the table, and the floor, looking at them with questioning eyes.
“Neko said you made a mistake when calling out to her. You said Sha--,” Raion explained.
“So we came up with either Shawn or Shane, so we tried it out, and your expression changed when Raion said Shawn,” Tora finished.
“How smart are you?” I asked Tora.
“This is how we can help you. I have the brains, Raion has the skills, and Neko… well, Neko is just an extra weight.” Neko hissed at Tora.
“I can carry myself on my own two feet.”
“Uh huh, like how you needed a bodyguard to take you home?” Raion teased. Neko glared at Raion.
“I can do Karate! I just can’t hold all of them back,” Neko whispered the last part.
“We’re just teasing you Neko,” Raion laughed. We all laughed. I then noticed Raion, Neko, and Tora’s ears perk up.
“Something’s happening outside,” Neko explained.
“Neko! Get into your room,” Raion’s care free voice completely gone.
“But I want to fight,” Neko whimpered.
“Neko! Go!” Raion yelled. Raion reached into her fishnets and got two daggers. I took out my curved sword.
“I do magic,” Tora explained when I gave her a look. The door opened as a tall and a person as short as me walked in.

Chapter 14: Seeing Each Other Again. You haven’t changed one bit!
“Wow, those felines are feisty,” a familiar voice came from the tall person, who was a girl.
“These look even feistier. They can rip out your throat,” the short girl said without emotion. Raion’s ears were flat against her head, crouched down, muscles tensed. The tall girl walked into the light. First I saw yellow shoes and blue socks. Then I saw a pair of green pants and a dark red shirt with gloves. She stopped before we can see her face. On one of the gloves, the Dancers jewel shone.
“If you step one more step, I’ll--.”
“It’s a Dancer.” I straighten up, cutting off Raion’s hiss.
“Oh.” Raion straightened up also, holding on to the daggers in case the Dancer attacked.
“I guess I taught you well.” The tall girl stepped out of the shadow, showing her face, the shorter one following.
“Nature Dancer and Night Dancer!” I had to stop myself before I jumped into the air with joy.
“We shouldn’t call each other by our Dancer name if we work together. I’m Tanya and Night Dancer is Ellen.”
“I’m sorry. I hope my people didn’t hurt you,” Tora asked in her sweet voice.
“Heh, I thought you were one of Inuka’s followers.” Raion, her voice back to care free, rubbed the back of her head.
“Is that the girl that you had to bring home?” Ellen pointed at my shoulder. I looked back and screamed. Neko stood there, right behind me. Everyone laughed. I guess cats do walk silently.
“May we rest up?” Tanya asked.
“Go down that hall and turn left on the last door.” The room Tanya and Ellen were put into was right across from my room.
“We’ll need our rest tomorrow, um, I don’t think I got your name,” Tanya told me.
“Oh! I’m Shawn. This is Neko, Tora, and Raion.” I decided to introduce them also. I followed Tanya and Ellen until they got to their room and I went right into mines. I slipped into bed, falling asleep before hitting the pillow.

Chapter 15: The Fight. Inuka and Dolly revealed. (Wow! This isn’t a cheesy title! Dang it! Now it is.)

I dropped to the ground, exhausted.
“Dancers need to be strong in order to defend themselves.” Tanya looked down at me. “Five more laps around the house!” I lied there, too tired to move. Fire paw jumped down from Tanya’s shoulder and breathed fire close to my legs. I jumped up and ran as Fire paw nipped at my heels. After my five laps, I sat down on the floor and drank water. Tora and Raion ran out.
“The villagers are making a commotion,” Tora explained to us. I stood up, feeling energy surge through my legs again. We, Tora, Raion, Tanya, Ellen, and I ran as fast as we could, or at least I could, towards the crowd. The villagers all hissed, then a bark came from the front where the villagers blocked our view. I watched as some villagers went flying, landing at our feet.
“P-princess! They have come!” A woman with leopard ears and a tail told us. Blood trickled down her cheek.
“Lightning Ball! Dragois! Forest Guardian! Aguila!” Tanya shouted. Lightning Ball, a yellow fuzz ball as big as a tennis ball came out. Dragois, a gray dragon roared by Tanya. Forest Guardian, a green hair lady with a green dress danced. Aguila, a blue half horse, half fish, sat there, waving her tail fin. Fire Paw sat there, looking like a pokemon.
“Leo. Capricorn. Taurus. Cancer. Scorpio,” Ellen said, emotionless.
“Beak Wind! Ms. Piggy! Fat Cat! Gassey!” I also shouted. Tanya went over to Dragois, sat on him, and flew over the crowd.
“There’s about fifty of them!” Tanya came back. “I can take care of the water kind. Ellen, you can take care of the flying ones. Tora, Raion, and Shawn can take care of the ones on land.” Tanya sat on Aguila and went into the water. Tanya put on some gloves, took out a gun, put Lightning Ball into the gun.
“Jump!” Aguila jumped as Tanya shot out Lightning Ball, electrocuting anyone that was in the water. Ellen took out her Fast Grow and put it on Leo. Leo grew into the sky and swatted any bird people with his giant paw.
I shouldn’t watch them fight, since I have to fight myself, I told myself. I looked just in time to see a big white dog jump onto me, his paws stretched out, teeth barred. The dog pinned me against the ground. I noticed that one of his eyes had a scar on it. The scar was an unusual design, quite pretty, in my opinion. The dog noticed me staring at his eye, so he spit in my slightly opened mouth. Snake tried to bite the dog’s paw, but was pushed out of his way. In the corner of my eye, I saw Uma and Tora fighting. Uma fought with her hoofs and Tora fought with her daggers. The dog put a paw against my chin, forcing my head up. He bent his head towards my neck.
I’m dead. He’s going to rip my throat out now! I waited for the feeling of teeth on my neck, waiting for pain. I looked at the white dog, seeing his body move, falling against the floor.
He died of a heart attack! My wish didn’t come true as he stood of, growling at an object behind me. I looked to find Dolly. I understood now. Dolly pushed the big white dog off me just in time.
“How are you feeling?” She asked me.
“G-good. Thanks.”
“Who are you?” The white dog growled, eyes glowing with hatred.
“Oh, nobody. I’m just your imagination, Inuka,” Dolly answered.
Inuka! I gasped. So this is the leader. I was surprised that he was the entirely wolf. The way Dolly answered him must have made him mad. Inuka jumped at Dolly and scratched her. Dolly’s ninja mask got caught in Inuka’s claws, her face was shown. She had poodle ears with roses on them, paws, a dog nose, and a poodle tail. She looked like a glass doll.
“So it was you, Ningyo Kao!” Inuka growled at her. He turned around and howled. Everyone that was with Inuka turned and left into the woods. I sat there, taking in everything that happened. I felt really dizzy. Something warm dripped onto my hand. I looked at my side to find that I was bleeding. When Inuka jumped on me, my knife must have stabbed into my side. Everything blurred.
“Oh my gosh! He’s bleeding! He’s lost a lot of blood!” Neko was by my side in an instant. She must have heard Inuka howl. I felt my body drop into a supporting arm. I blacked out as everyone hovered over me.

Chapter 16: The Run! Ahhh! Someone help me!

I woke up to find myself in bed, shirtless, and with bandages wrapped around my side and ribs. I got up, feeling my side hurt, and put on a shirt. I had a feeling that someone was watching me. I walked out into the hall. Neko, Raion, Tora, Ellen, and Tanya immediately stopped talking and looked at me from the dinning table.
“Um… I’m going out for a walk.” The feeling stayed as I walked down towards the front door, each step was painful. I walked outside. The feeling that someone was watching me grew stronger.
I’m just too close to the city. I need to be alone, I thought. I walked to the river. The woods are the only place where I can be alone. I summoned Gassey and sat on his head as he swam against the current. Once we got to the woods, the feeling grew stronger. I summoned Beak Wind, Ms. Piggy, and Fat Cat. All my Ecnadlewej stayed by my side.
Maybe I should go back, the thought went through my head. I saw something green moving. I gulped as it came closer and closer.
“Thanks for leaving me in the battle,” a familiar voice went in my head.
“Snake!” I cried.
“You need to leave right now! Inuka is here, waiting for you! He just let me out. His followers took me and let me go in the woods!” I ran cold as a chilling howl came from behind me. I ran into the woods.
Run! Run! My head told me.
“No! You’re going the wrong way!” Snake slithered as fast as her little body could, my other Ecnadlewej followed. I ignored her and ran into the deepest parts of the woods.
I never was supposed to be a Dancer. I had no guts! All I do is run away, I thought to myself. Tears rolled down my cheek as I ran deeper and deeper into the woods. Then, everything was like slow motions. There I was, running, then a thick branch was in my way. I ducked to avoid it, finding that it followed my head. I collided into the branch, falling backwards. My head throbbed. I sat up to meet face to face with Uma’s snarling face.
“So, that didn’t knock you out? I guess this will.” She took the branch and slammed it against the top of my head. I blacked out immediately.

Chapter 17: Inuka’s Lair. W-where am I?

My eyes opened slowly. I was sitting in a chair, all tied up. I think I’m in a cave. I hear voices.
This is probably what mom did, I thought, she always knocks me down and ties me up for my birthday surprise. Typical of her to do that. Then, everything rushed back to me. I looked around the cave. Snake was tied to a stick. Beak Wind was in a birdcage and had clips on his wings. Gassey had his legs tied up, dangling from the cave’s ceiling. Ms. Piggy was in a steel fence. Fat Cat was in a cat carrier with a muzzle on.
“Look who’s awake,” Uma snarled, talking to the others, “Mr. I’m-so-tough!” The others started making the ugliest noise ever. I guessed that they were laughing. Inuka stepped out of the shadows.
“We’ll deal with him later, let’s eat.” They all left the cave. I looked around for something I could use for a weapon. Then, I noticed my sword right in front of Fat Cat’s carrier. The problem was, Fat Cat was on the other side of the cave, and my hands are tied up, so I can’t use the sword. Then I had an idea. Ms. Piggy’s steel fence was right next to Fat Cat’s carrier.
“Ice Walk from Fat Cat to Snake,” I yelled to Ms. Piggy. Ms. Piggy blew some ice across the cave. “ Fat Cat, push the sword a little.” Fat Cat jumped and hit the front of the cage. The cage moved a little, hitting the sword. The sword went sliding and landed at Snake’s tail. “Grab the sword Snake, and cut the rope.” Snake grabbed it, cut her own rope, slithered towards me, and cut my rope. I opened Fat Cat’s carrier and told Fat Cat to suck Gassey down. Once Gassey came down, I opened Beak Wind’s cage and unclipped the clips on his wings. Then, Gassey, Beak Wind, Snake, Fat Cat, and I had to pull Ms. Piggy over the fence. Once everything was done, I ran out of the cave. I was about to head home when I heard chattering and music in a tent. It was Inuka and the others. I had an idea to attack them. I ran towards the tent.
“Don’t be a fool! You’ll only get yourself killed!” I ignored Snake’s warning voice for the second time. As I got closer to the tent, I could hear some voices.
“Pretty little thing, I say,” a drunken person said. I ran in and was surprised.
Hey I think that you should make all of your chapters a different post. Don't just have all of them on one thing.

Hey, Crazy Girl.

Whoa. Whoa. This is waaaaay too much to post.

I give very detailed reviews- this often means I give line by line critiques. Seeing this much is very overwhelming to people who want to review your story.

Here's a hint: Post your chapters separately, not all at once.

Also: It is a rule here on YWS that you should have two reviews' of other work before you post your own work. Thanks!

Since I am here... I'll review chapter one of your story.

“I-I really don’t want to step in that portal.” Marcia stepped away from the portal.
“Come on! The tournament is about to start!” I took Marcia’s hand and dragged her into the portal.

Okay, so it is good to start your story with action- but you need description. What does the portal look like? Where is it? Is it just floating in the middle of nowhere? Is it small? Large?

school calls it. No one knows what the actual name of the world is. It all started a century ago; some scientists found a portal leading to a world where everyone has abandoned it.

You switch to present tense in the passage. What I highlighted should be changed to past.

Again, this is all in present tense. PM me if you need more help with your tenses; I don't have time to pick them all out right now. ^_^

dark blue shirt and a furry vest, then I pull my long brown hair back into a ponytail, which is in for boys, and put fake earrings on my right ear.

Ummm, this is not very ancient Japanese.

Ecnadlewej

Is this supposed to sound Japanese? It doesn't.

“Hello everyone. ARE YOU READY TO RUMBLE?!?”

This dialogue seems pretty modern.

If an Ecnadlewej was too strong for you to control, which is what the crystal on the Dancer’s neck, feet, ect., helps you control, then the Ecnadlewej could kill you instead

Once again, this is all in present tense.

All in All

There are a few things you need to work on:

-The story started way to quickly. The reader knows nothing about Oldie because you give no...

Description

Description is your friend. Right now, your story reads like an outline.

What is an Ecnadlewej? I don't know. What is it like to go through a portal? I don't know. What does Oldie look/feel/taste/sound like? I don't know. Show me. Use description. This sounds corny, but description will really make your story come to life.

Ancient Japan?

Honestly, nothing about this world sounds remotely like Japan. Trust me- I know my Japan! ^_^

Hope this helped,
~~~Sakura~~~
Dancers fighting? Hmm, it's an idea that has potential, and it's been well planned, and has good plot. Split up your chapters though. You aren't meant to put your entire book onto here. But the potential is strong, so long as you follow it up. But gassey, Fat Cat and Ms.piggy? They sound like muppets. Try making the names more realistic. But it seems to be a book with potential.
Welcome to YWS !
First of all; PM me about the things you don't understand. I'll do what I can to make things easier for you.
Secondly; the YWS enforces a 2:1 ratio of review:posting own work, which means that you have to review two pieces of work done by other members before you post one piece of your own work. You haven't made any reviews, so far, I see - so go ahead and review some stuff! ^_^
Also, this is far too much to post in one go. I'm sorry, but I'm not going to review this entire story at one - it's simply too much. You'll see you have less of an audience if you post such large chunks of a story, than if you post smaller portions. Many are discouraged by the length of stories, so posting it in parts is the best thing to do
Now that I'm here I'll review a part of your story, but... get those reviews done, and don't hesitate to contact me about your confusions with the site!
Ecnadlewej Quite frankly it looks as though you tried writing with your elbows (or, possibly, your nose? ^^). Does this have any meaning in another language? If not... I don't think it's a good title. How is a jumble of letters with no apparant meaning supposed to draw readers in? I think it's a bit far fetched. I don't mean to be harsch, but... this is taking creative naming above and beyond what is acceptable. Don't take this the wrong way, I'm not trying to be mean, I'm just speaking my mind.
Allrights, then. On to the review!
Instead of a line-by-line I've decided to comment on some of your general points of improvement.
Repeating repetition:
Example one: “I-I really don’t want to step in that portal.” Marcia stepped away from the portal.
You use the words step(ped), and portal, twice in that line.
Example two: “Come on! The tournament is about to start!” I took Marcia’s hand and dragged her into the portal. The portal led to the world of Oldie… or at least that’s what everyone at school calls it. No one knows what the actual name of the world is. It all started a century ago; some scientists found a portal leading to a world where everyone has abandoned it.
Count how many times you use the word portal :wink: and consider doing something about it.
Be careful with repetition, dear, it distracts from the story. I must say I think you're very creative; the storyline is interesting.
CAPS vs. italics vs. ?!?
Example: “Hello everyone. ARE YOU READY TO RUMBLE?!?” the announcer asked as the crowd roared.
You can change this to: "Hello everyone. Are you ready to rumble?"
Caps distract from the story, and by using italics on one or two words in a sentence you achieve the same effect. Or you can use italics on the entire sentence - that's up to you. Also, try to avoid sequences of ?'s and !'s. They're solitary beings, those punctuation marks :wink: they prefer to not be crammed into a small space together. One will do, the italics create the needed effect already.
Atmosphere:
Show us what the characters are like; but also what their surroundings are like. Is it sunny? Windy? Cold? Is the scent of spring in the air? Does the place smell like popcorn and marshmallows? Are there people running about, or is the scene calm?
Overall:
I think it's an interesting, and creative, concept, and that you've got something good going here, but just pay attention to the things I've mentioned ^ up there to make it even better. Keep writing, keep editing, and keep improving! That's what YWS is awesome for ^.^
I'm sorry for burning Ecnadlewej to the ground with my comments, but I figured that you could take my being honest about it.
Do PM me with questions, dear! I'm nice =] no worries.
