Your smile is like a cheap imatation of heaven,
(Ah, the joys of similies)
Well, that's cool! ^_^
I had trouble with hands too. I sat there and just drew my own over and over, and they started to improve.
On your top hand, the knuckle looks too prominent. Also, unless you consciously spread your fingers, your front, or in this case index finger, the bottom fleshy bit (can't think of a better name at the moment) will conceal the other fingers slightly. You won't see the top of the other fingers to the first joint. If you're confused, take a look at your hand in the position you've got on your picture, you'll see what I mean.
You also need to add a little more curve to the fingers, at each joint they taper in slightly and they are more fleshy in between. Each segment is slightly thinner- at least on my fingers they are ><;
The bottom hand I like more, for some reason. But again, you need to slightly conceal the backs of the fingers, and add more curves to the fingers. You also should take a look at the heel of your hand- the bump you have on the bottom hand on the far side is too far towards your arm.
But trust me, hands are hard. These are better then mine were for a long time- and I still have to stop a scrutinize my hands while drawing hands.
But overall, pretty cool picture ^_^
It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.
I agree with Nutty,
and I think you need to stop and look at your hands while you are drawing them,
then you can get a better idea on how to make them look more natural.
Since your hands are right there in front of you why not use that advantage!
The other guys are right. Looking at hands helps, if you can, get someone else to model their hands, or even go to google and look for pictures of hands. Next time, try bending thje fingers like you're making a claw, this will help make it more realistic if you can capture the tension in the hand musceles. Her hands are a bit too cupped, since she is in prison, I feel like she would be a bit more wild (if the nails are anything to go by, and the dark colors). But perhaps you were trying to capture a innocent soul stuck in prison, eh? I'm reading to far into it, lol. Good job, keep trying, you'll be great one day.
Feel the urge to give some constructive criticism? Why not give it to these stories?
'Tis very true. It is hard to get the proportions of the joints and the placement of each finger right. And the shading to make it look 'skin-like' and three-dimensional.
You did a very good job.
I like this. It's what I might refer to as being a piece of conceptual art; like you've implied in the title, there is deeper meaning behind the drawing.
That's what I find intruiging about this.
Right..
You've got the overall structure of the hands right. though the way you drawn them would make the metacarpal bones be more lengthened than usual. It also appears the person has no joints between the first and second sets of metacarpal bones [the two bones in each finger] You could shade gently to make these joints appear to be apparent, but just not protruding out of the person's hands. XD
More shading you could do to make them look less flat and have more structure.
And..that's it (other points have been covered by other members ]
Overall, it's very good. Better than me on most days, anyway.
He's like fire and ice and rage. He's like the night and the storm and the heart of the sun. He's ancient and forever. He burns at the center of time and he can see the turn of the Universe. And ...he's wonderful.
