Why did I let her kill herself?

Hi,
My friend recently passes away after killing herself. I've written this poem in memory of her,
and as a way of facing up to how badly I treat her.
Can you help me with it?
----

A thousand times she told me,
That she was gonna do it.

Why couldn’t I believe her? Her words spoken like golden gospel.
Why couldn’t I?

A thousand times I saw her lacerated legs,
the puncture marks too.

Why wasn’t I strong enough to stop her? With forces I never knew.
Why wasn’t I?

A thousand times I’d find her howling in the night,
Pouring her soul into a bottle.

Why didn’t I listen to her more? Attentive as the bee to the flower.
Why didn’t I?

A Thousand times her parents invited me,
To her funeral which happened was last week.

Why didn’t I go to see her off? Like a good friend should.
Why didn’t I?

hey kris

this was a good poem. the grammar was correct and everything, and it used good language. the only thing you might want to fix is the title. It's kinda boring and bland, try thinking of something that catches the eye more.

happy wrtings,
~bren~

p.s. It's not your fault that she died. No matter what you tell yourself, just know that it truthfully is not your fault.

I can't find anything wrong with it. It was really sad, but I can't imagine it not being sad. There were a few lines that sounded just a teensy bit off (" Poured her soul into a bottle") but I have no idea how to help you with it.
I'm really sorry. I know how it feels. A guy in my school died in December. You ever want to talk, I'm open.

P.s. You could put the poem by or on her grave. It might help you feel better. And its not your fault.
I realized that I said I'd be gone for only two weeks...but I was gone for much longer.I hope to stay on this time. :)

First of all, darling, I'm so sorry for your loss, but no matter what it truly wasn't your fault. Regrets will be felt at any death -- things that 'could have been', but there's nothing you can do about it now except move on. Progress, and take what you've learned from her and her life to heart so that you can at least use her memory towards happier times. -huggles tightly-

I don't know if you really want to thoroughly go through the poem, perhaps to publish it in her memory or anything, but there are just a few things I'd like to mention.

Why couldn’t I believe her? Her words spoken like golden gospel.

Why couldn’t I?

I don't quite get the reference to a 'golden gospel', especially because it could be so many ways you didn't intend for it to. To some, they might view it ironically, thinking a gospel is not really worth being listened to, which throws off your whole poem's meaning.

Why wasn’t I strong enough to stop her? With forces I never knew.

Why wasn’t I?

What forces are you referring to here? Forces that you kept inside yourself and didn't know that you had the true power to wield, as in you didn't know you truly possessed the ability to stop her? If so, that's a beautiful line, but it could be a /bit/ clearer.

Over all, this poem is real, raw, and beautiful. Feel better in time. <3

I'm sorry about your friend.

This is a beautiful poem. The emotions were all there, all vividly painted.

A thousand times I’d find her howling in the night,
Pouring her soul into a bottle.
Personally, I find this the best part of your poem.

And I agree with the change your title suggestion as well. Again, great poem. And it's not your fault.
All that I'm after is a life full of laughter, as long as I'm laughing with you.:)

My spelling is wobbly. It's good spelling, but it wobbles, and the letters get in the wrong places.
