(Ivellios will keep his longsword and take spear that he will use once he gains a few more skill points I've been saving.)

Ivellios sighed in relief when he heard that Kai's and Enya's father was alive. he wasn't surprised though, he was the strongest warrior he had ever seen. Looking around camp he frowned Is this all that made it? I wonder when aid will come? He turned to Adrian and asked, "When do we head out? I'd prefer now, but that's just me. Evey second is precious."

(Sorry it's short, but I felt I had to post something.)
I will always fight back, no matter what.

(Ah, so that's why you haven't chosen a skill yet. No problem, just let me know when you do and I'll record it for you. On a different note, I'm afraid boltageman will not be participating any further. He has dropped out again, saying he cannot keep up with everything. Since kitty15 wants to make another character later on, I've decided to make Reon a community character that everyone can control, like Warren from the first VG Rumble when his creator dropped out. I will be in charge of the distribution of Reon's skills.)

(I'm going to wait until tomorrow to post, give someone else a chance to post in case they want to.)

**Since Balaes can't use a dagger, he'll just stick with his wand for the time being**

Looking around at the small group of survivors, Balaes could only hear one phrase ringing through his head over and over again. This is why. This is why I don't want to be like my father. Anuron Raan collaborated with demons. Demons had caused this.

"I'm with Ivellios." He said, "We need to move now, we don't really have any time to rest. If Martin is still in Kvatch, we have to find Sir Ro and the remaining defenders and get Martin back."

His apparent eagerness to put his life on the line by being near an open demon gate was actually born of two things - one, his knowledge that Martin was their only hope, if Mehrunes Dagon had opened the gate on his own, closing it from their side was almost impossible, and he wasn't keen on travelling to a demon home world. Two, he didn't want to be around the survivors of a demon attack too long. Most of them would be severely traumatised, he had seen the results of demon encounters on the human mind before, and he had no wish to see them again.
He had decided to live forever or die in the attempt. - Yossarian, Catch-22

"Wait," Adrian said, finally realizing something. If Ilum had made it out, what about... He turned back to the man and asked, "What about Sir Ro's wife, Karana. Did she make it out."

"I'm sorry, I do not know," the man told them. "If she is not in the camp or with the soldiers up the hill, she's either still in Kvatch or dead."

"Dead?" Enya gasped in horror.

Adrian turned to her. "No she is not. She must still be in Kvatch fighting against the demons. We'll save her and Martin. I'll make sure of it, I promise."

Enya gave a hesitant nod. She believed Adrian. Whenever he promised something he wouldn't stop until he came through with it. But she still couldn't stop worrying about her mother. What if the demons had gotten to her and she was...

Edgar interrupted her thoughts. "Whatever the case, there's no point in waiting here any longer."

Adrian nodded. "Agreed, let's go."

It took them a few minutes to make it all the way up the hill. About half way it started to rain. The red sky was still ever present, bringing down a wave of dread along with the rain. There was a barricade set up near the edge of the hill between them and the entrance to Kvatch, which was a couple of hundred yards away. In front of the entrance was the dreaded Oblivion Gate, although the original had opened in the center of the town. The first one must have closed and this one opened in its place to keep those who made it out from getting back into the town. The expanse between the barricade and the gate was riddled with the bodies of humans and demons alike. Many battles had been fought here in just a short amount of time.

At the barricade there were no more than five men. The Guard captain Savlian Matius, three soldiers, and Ilum. Enya called out to him. "Father!" She ran toward Ilum.

Ilum turned to see everyone. Shock and surprise lit up in his face just before Enya jumped into his embrace. "Enya! What are you doing here? It's too dangerous here for you and Kai!" He looked up at the rest of the group, his eyes settling on Adrian. "Adrian, is that you? Why are you-"

Savlian Matius shouted at the top of his lungs, "Here comes another wave!"

Enya screamed when the gate gleamed, nine monsters stepping out. One of them, a crocodile-looking beast, bellowed at them before rushing forth, a flaming-human form and electrified golem following closely behind.

Chaos erupted. Blades whistled as the men faced the animals head on; Enya stumbled when Ilum shoved her away, shouting incoherently. She guessed he was saying either "get out of here" or "get help" or something...

She ran back up hill, ducking beneath a fallen tree just as a spout of flame shot past her head. She squealed when the proximity of the fire burned her shoulder mildly.

Kai heard Enya yelp, saw the flame that had been fired at her retreating form, and growled. "Leave her alone!" He lunged, swinging threateningly at the atronach.

Enya stayed crouched behind the fallen tree, tending to her shoulder. She quivered in fear as she heard everyone's shouts as they fought the demons. She was too scared to move from her spot.

The sound of a twig snapping made her look over her shoulder. A Skamp had snuck through the battle and found Enya. It hissed as it reached out to grab her. Enya screamed as it took hold of her sleeve.

Adrian was suddenly there, slicing the Skamp's shoulder with his short sword. The creature released Enya, crying out in pain as it backed away. Adrian stood his ground between it and Enya. "Don't worry, Enya," he said. "I'll protect you."

Meanwhile, the others had their hands full with the rest of the creatures. Even without Adrian and Enya in the thick of the battle, they still out-numbered the demons. Even so, the battle proved to be a difficult one.

The Deadroth roared as it grabbed a nearby soldier and tossed his body against a nearby rock. The unmistakable sound of bones cracking could be heard when the man hit the hard surface. The demon turned to the next soldier, who had just witnessed its strength. His eyes gleamed with fear. Before the creature came close enough to attack, Edgar blocked its path.

"I'll be your opponent, demon," he said before transforming into his werewolf form.

Balaes

An enterprising Scamp got a little to close to Balaes, thinking that an unarmoured, unarmed man would be an easy target. It didn't count on meeting a boy hardened from life on the streets, and Balaes quickly sent it looking for someone even easier than he with a hard kick.

The Storm Atronach, on the other hand, was going to take a little more persuasion than a mere kick. The towering, crackling stones of the demon grasped a soldier, electrocuting him through his steel plating even as the stones crushing him, squeezing the breath out of him while bones snapped.

Balaes drew his wand out of a sleeve. He'd vowed a long time ago not to use this again, but he had no other weapon than dark magic, and if he was going to tackle an atronach, conventional weaponry would probably be of little use to him anyway. He had no training in them, and while Kai, Adrian or Ivellios might be able to wound one in melee combat, Balaes would stand no chance.

Closing his eyes, he concentrated hard on the darkness deep inside him, feeling it well up before he channelled it in a long ray at the Atronach. The demon actually stumbled back two thudding steps, then, rallying, charged at Balaes, who focused on bringing more of the dark energy forth.

Ivellios stood before a Frost Atronach. He had had some experience in fighting them and he drew hes sword knowing his spear was useless against it. He turned to two soldiers that stood by him, "Go for the joints and the neck, it's weakest there."

With that the creature moved and stabbed one of the soldiers with it's icy hand, blood running from the wound. He was quickly thrown against a tree and fell limp. The other soldier attacked, but missed his mark and did no damage. The Frost Atronach kicked him sending him back a few paces. It went to impale him like the other, but Ivellios blocked the attack. He pushed the arm aside and with all his might swung at the neck. It tried to move, but Ivellios took a chunk out of it.

Reeling from the blow, the Frost Atronach tried to move back to recover, but the soldier that had fallen got up and grappled the beast jumping on it's back. Flailing around it tried to knock the trooper off, but to no avail. Ivellios waisted no time and slide up to the monster swing with everything he had. He impacted at the back of the knee joint and cut off half it's right leg.

The beast fell to the ground and squirmed in pain. Along with the soldier, they both swung their swords at an arch and beheaded the beast. Ivellios looked to his right to see the other Frost Atronach taring through troops. His soldier ran at it with a battle cry. Following he said to him self, When this is over he deserves a promotion.

Edgar squared off against the Deadroth, ready to pounce at the first sign of movement. The enemy moved first, and Edgar rushed in to attack. He tackled the bulky creature to the ground, but the demon was heavier than it looked. It reached out to slash Edgar with its thick claws, but the werewolf was quicker. He ducked under its arm and moved behind it. He jumped onto the Deadroth's back, sinking his teeth into its rough, scaly skin.

The Deadroth howled in pain, making a sound that didn't seem to belong in this world. It tried to reach back and grab Edgar, but its arms were too thick and couldn't reach that far. As it flailed about wildly its tail hit a nearby rock and smashed it to pieces. Still, Edgar held on. The more the creature struggled, the deeper his fangs sank.

The creature started running backwards until reaching a large outcropping rock from the ground. It slammed Edgar against the rock with all its might. His shoulder hit a sharp edge that cut open his skin. The pain caused him to lose his grip, giving the Deadroth the chance it needed to pull him off. The demon grabbed Edgars foot and threw him onto the ground. The creature was on top of him before he had the chance to get back on his feet. It opened its large crocodile mouth and moved to bite off his head. Edgar stopped it with his furry wolf hands, holding the snout with one and the bottom jaw with the other. He gagged from the monster's foul breath as he struggled to push it away, managing to keep its mouth mere inches away from his face.

Kai tangled with the Flame Atronach, swinging at it with his blade. The beast was faster than it had first seemed to be... It easily dodged Kai's attacks, especially the ones toward its neck and head.

"Damn it," Kai hissed, backing up for a moment. This was not working. He glanced behind him, at Ivellios...the Frost was down, decapitated, dead... But, how...? "Hey, Ivellios! Any tips?"

"The joints! Aim for the joints!"

That blew it. The atronach heard the tip, and apparently it had sense enough to know what that meant: Kai knew how to take it down. And to hell with it giving him that chance. It growled, an unearthly sound, and spat fire at his opponent. Kai yelled in surprise, rolling to the side as the flame shot right past him. He would have to move quickly; that thing would kill him at this rate...

But then he heard Edgar yelp. He saw the blur of him being slammed to the ground. Kai hesitated...now what? Face his own opponent, or help Edgar? What could he do?

(I'm just going to stop you there. Only characters with the Throw Knives skill can, well, throw knives. Last I checked, only Twinblades can use it. Would you be so kind as to edit that out of your post, Ayumi? Rules are rules, after all. But, technically I guess you could have your character throw anything he or she wanted, just don't expect it to be very accurate. Edgar is too far away for Kai to hit without the Throw Knives skill, which he can't get anyway because he belongs to the Warrior class.)
