What does this button do?

Hi, This site seem pretty cool, so I thought I'd try it out. Not entirely sure how it works yet, but I'm hoping I'll learn as I go. Tips, advice, and redundancy welcome. :D I'm a Reader/Writer Person Thingy and this looks like a lot of fun. One of my most favorite writers is Carrie Vaughn. Another is Stephen King (circa early 80's). I'm into informal writing styles and witty internal dialogue among protagonists. Anyways, can't wait to get started reading/writing here.
